Findings on three endocommensal scuticociliates(Protista,Ciliophora)from freshwater mollusks,including their morphology and molecular phylogeny with descriptions of two new species

Species of the ciliate genera Myxophyllum and Conchophthirus are found as endocommensals of terrestrial and freshwater mollusks,respectively.So far,there have been few studies of these genera and morphological data for most members are often incomplete.In the present work,two new species,Myxophyllum weishanense sp.***.and Conchophthirus paracurtus sp.nov.,and a known species,Conchophthirus lamellidens,were isolated from hosts in Lake Weishan Wetland,China.Taxonomic studies indicate that M.weishanense sp.***.can be recognized mainly by the combination of about 60 somatic kineties on both ventral and dorsal sides and the presence of caudal cilia.Conchophthirus paracurtus sp.***.differs from congeners in its body shape and size,having a glabrous area on the posterior right side,and having fewer somatic kineties.In addition,differences in their ITS2(Internally Transcribed Spacer 2)secondary structures support the discrimination of the two new species from their highly similar congeners.An improved diagnosis for the poorly known species,C.lamel-lidens is also provided.Phylogenetic analyses reveal that members of the genus Myxophyllum belong to a fully supported clade that is sister to a large,poorly supported clade consisting of Hemispeiridae,Ancistridae,and several lineages of the nonmonophyletic Cyclidiidae.The Myxophyllum clade also includes Protophyra ovicola JQ956552,a possible misidenti-fication.Sequences of the two new Conchophthirus species cluster with other congeners in a fully supported clade that is unrelated to either the‘typical’thigmotrichs or to pleuronematids,thus conflicting with the traditional classification,and may represent an orphan scuticociliate lineage.

Systematics, species diversity and new taxa of mesozooplankton in the West Pacific Ocean and its marginal seas: a brief compilation of monographs in China

Research and protection of biodiversity is generally started with species recognizing guided by achievement of cataloguing and illustration obtained through in situ investigation data accumulation and literature learning. Facing the shortage of taxonomist, it is getting harder to maintain important specimen collections and handle loans. The West Pacific Ocean has been operating as a center of the origin of global marine biodiversity result of the richest species diversity of marine taxa found in these waters. The present work is a compilation and summary of systematics, species diversity and new taxa of mesozooplankton major group known in West Pacific Ocean and its marginal seas （0°-45°N, 105°-152°E） according to 6 203 mesozooplankton samples acquired from 701 stations during 1965 and 2008. A total of 2 657 species belonging to 686 genera and 206 families of 10 mesozooplankton groups have been found through taxonomic identification and document consulting. In details, 697 species from 251 genera of 99 families belong to the Medusozoa, 59 species from 22 genera of 12 families to the Ctenophora, 85 species from 36 genera of 14 families to the pelagic Mollusca （Pteropoda and Heteropoda）, 416 species from 91 genera of 8 families to the Ostracoda, 908 species from 156 genera of 51 families to the Copepoda, 202 species from 60 genera of 4 families to the Mysidacea, 56 species from 8 genera of 2 families to the Euphausiacea, 105 species from 23 genera of 8 families to the Decapoda, 48 species from 13 genera of 5 families to the Chaetognatha and 81 species from 26 genera of 5 families to the Tunicata. The dominant species of each group are enumerated. Moreover, 2 new species of Medusozoa, Tubulariidae, Ectopleura, 1 new species of Medusozoa, Protiaridae, Halitiarella, 1 new genus and 1 new species of Medusozoa, Corymorphidae are established. Monocotyledon-like Leaves from the Middle Jurassic of East Siberia(Russia)

Leaf fragments of Herbifolia antiqua A.Frolov et Enushchenko gen.et sp.***.from the Middle Jurassic(Aalenian)of the Irkutsk Coal Basin(Eastern Siberia,Russia)are reported.The following features are characteristic of H.antiqua gen.et sp.nov.:the presence of leaf sheaths,linear smooth-edged leaves with parallel venation,anastomoses between the veins,anomocytic stomata,rhomb-shaped ordinary epidermal cells.Such a combination of characters is widespread in modern monocotyledonous plants and is absent in fossil and modern cryptogam and gymnosperms.Due to the lack of evidence of an enclosed ovule in H.antiqua gen.et sp.nov.,we attribute it to a typological angiosperm,based on its unique leaf structure characteristic of monocotyledons.The leaf epidermal structure of Herbifolia gen.***.is most similar to those of modern Asparagales and Liliales.

Systematic classification and phylogenetic relationships of the brown‑rot fungi within the Polyporales

The brown-rot fungi play an important role in forest ecosystems;they can degrade celluloses and hemicelluloses of wood and maintain nutrient cycling.Some of the brown-rot fungi also have important economic value as medicinal or edible mushrooms.Recent studies showed that the ability to produce brown rot has evolved independently at least five times.Nevertheless,the Polyporales contains the vast majority of the species of the brown-rot fungi.In this study,the classification system of the brown-rot fungi within the Polyporales is revised.Furthermore,the phylogenetic relationships of brown-rot fungi within the Polyporales are analysed based on DNA sequences of multiple loci including the internal transcribed spacer(ITS)regions,the large subunit nuclear ribosomal RNA gene(nLSU),the small subunit nuclear ribosomal RNA gene(nSSU),the small subunit mitochondrial rRNA gene sequences(mtSSU),the translation elongation factor 1-αgene(TEF1),the RNA polymerase II largest subunit(RPB1)and the second subunit of RNA polymerase II(RPB2).The study showed that the brownrot fungi within the Polyporales formed fourteen lineages,which are assigned at family level,including four new families:Auriporiaceae,Piptoporellaceae,Postiaceae,Taiwanofungaceae,and ten existing families:Adustoporiaceae,Dacryobolaceae,Fibroporiaceae,Fomitopsidaceae,Laetiporaceae,Laricifomitaceae,Phaeolaceae,Pycnoporellaceae,Sarcoporiaceae,and Sparassidaceae.Meanwhile,eleven new genera,viz.,Austroporia,Aurantipostia,Austropostia,Daedalella,Nothofagiporus,Pseudoantrodia,Pseudofomitopsis,Rhodoantrodia,Tenuipostia,Wolfiporiella and Wolfiporiopsis are proposed;eighteen new species,viz.,Amyloporia nivea,Antrodia subheteromorpha,Aurantipostia macrospora,Austropostia hirsuta,A.plumbea,A.subpunctata,Cystidiopostia subhibernica,Daedalella micropora,Fuscopostia subfragilis,Lentoporia subcarbonica,Melanoporia tropica,Neolentiporus tropicus,Phaeolus fragilis,Postia crassicontexta,Pseudoantrodia monomitica,Pseudofomitopsis microcarpa,Resinoporia luteola and Rhodonia subrancida a

Zygomycetes are phylogenetically early diverging,ecologically diverse,industrially valuable,agriculturally beneficial,and clinically pathogenic fungi.Although new phyla and subphyla have been constantly established to accommodate spe-cific members and a subkingdom Mucoromyceta,comprising Calcarisporiellomycota,Glomeromycota,Mortierellomycota and Mucoromycota,was erected to unite core zygomycetous fungi,phylogenetic relationships within phyla have not been well resolved.Taking account of the information of monophyly and divergence time estimated from ITS and LSU rDNA sequences,the present study updates the classification framework of the phylum Mucoromycota from the class down to the generic rank:three classes,three orders,20 families(including five new families Circinellaceae,Protomycocladaceae,Rhizomucoraceae,Syzygitaceae and Thermomucoraceae)and 64 genera.The taxonomic hierarchy was calibrated with estimated divergence times:phylum earlier than 617 Mya,classes and orders earlier than 547 Mya,families earlier than 199 Mya,and genera earlier than 12 Mya.Along with this outline,all genera of Mucoromycota are annotated and 58 new species are described.In addition,three new combinations are proposed.In this study,we update the taxonomic backbone of the phylum Mucoromycota and reinforce its phylogeny.We also contribute numerous new taxa and enrich the diversity of Mucoromycota.

new Pelecinid Wasps (Hymenoptera:Proctotrupoidea:Pelecinidae) from the Yixian Formation of Western Liaoning,China

Three well-preserved fossil Pelecinids from the Late Mesozoic Yixian Formation,Liaoning Province,China are described and assigned to two new species,Eopelecinus huangi sp.***.and Eopelecinus tumidus sp.***.in Eopelecinus Zhang,Rasnitsyn and Zhang,2002.As of now,17 species have been included in this genus,which is the most diverse in the Pelecinidae family.With new information and characters obtained from these new specimens,the diagnosis of Eopelecinus Zhang, Rasnitsyn and Zhang,2002 is emended.

Taxonomy and phylogeny of Entoloma s.***.subgenus Pouzarella in China are carried out based on morphological characters and molecular data.Seven species in subg.Pouzarella are recognized in China and a key to these species is provided.Five species,Entoloma changchunense,E.crassicystidiatum,E.furfuraceum,E.subaraneosum and E.tenuissimum,are described as new;a new Chinese record E.dysthaloides is also presented in this paper.Among them,E.crassicystidiatum was discovered from southern China,and the others were found in northeastern China.Molecular phylogeny of subg.Pouzarella were conducted based on nLSU,mtSSU and RPB2,and the phylogenetic positions of the five new species are discussed.The placement of subg.Pouzarella in Entoloma s.***.clade is well resolved in all analyses presented here,and the monophyly of subg.Pouzarella is strongly supported by the morphological and molecular phylogeny.The infrageneric classifications in this group were not well recovered in the present study;and further studies based on more samples and gene loci are needed to a better understanding of the infrageneric taxa in subg.Pouzarella in the future.

This paper lists the accepted names and classification of marine fungi,updating the scheme presented in 2009.The classification includes 1,112 species(in 472 genera):Ascomycota 805(in 352 genera),Basidiomycota 21 species(in 17 genera),Chytridiomycota and related phyla 26 species(in 13 genera),Zygomycota three(in two genera),Blastocladiomycota one species(one genus),asexual morphs of filamentous fungi 43(in 26 genera);and marine yeasts:Ascomycota 138 species(in 35 genera),Basidiomycota 75 species(in 26 genera).These fungi belong to 129 families and 65 orders.The Halosphaeriaceae remains the largest family of marine fungi with 141 species in 59 genera,while the most specious genera are Aspergillus(47 species),Penicillium(39 species)and the yeast genus Candida(64 species).The review includes details of recent higher order nomenclature changes,and accounts of new families,genera and species described over the past 5 years.

The genus Phylloporus (Boletaceae, Boletales) from China: morphological and multilocus DNA sequence analyses

Species of the genus Phylloporus in China were investigated based on morphology and molecular phylogenetic analysis of a three-locus(nrLSU,ITS and tef-1a)DNA sequence dataset.Twenty-one phylogenetic species were recognized among the studied collections.Seven of them are described as new:P.brunneiceps,P.imbricatus,P.maculatus,P.pachycystidiatus,P.rubeolus,P.rubrosquamosus,and P.yunnanensis.In addition,four of them correspond with the previous morphology-based taxa:P.bellus,P.luxiensis,P.parvisporus,and P.rufescens.The remaining ten phylogenetic species were not described due to the paucity of the materials.A key to the Chinese morphologically recognizable taxa was provided.A preliminary biogeographical analysis showed that(1)Pylloporus species in East Asia and Southeast Asia are mostly closely related,(2)species pairs or closely related species of Phylloporus between East Asia and North/Central America are relatively common,and(3)the biogeographic relationship of Phylloporus between East Asia and Europe was supported by only a single species pair.Unexpectedly,no taxa common either to both Europe and East Asia,or to both East Asia and North/Central America,were uncovered.Clades look to have taxa from both sides of the Pacific and Europe/Asia though.
