Historicity of Texts and Textuality of History On The Virginian From the Perspective of new historicism

The Virginian： A Horseman of the Plains （1902） has been considered as one of the masterpieces of American western novels for its successful depiction of cowboys and local customs, which earns Owen Wister the Father of Western fiction. The paper aims to reveal the relationship between The Virginian and its historical context by applying the doctrines of new historicism： historicity of texts and textuality of history. By historicity of texts, it points out that the work is the emblem of disappearance of western frontier, and it symbolizes the union of the Wild West and the civilized east. By textuality of history, it detects the change of social class, the development of livestock industry and railway, and their influence on the work at the later part of 19th century.

A Tentative Study of new historicism in China

The concept of new historicism provides us with a new and critical perspective to understand the historical truth. Influenced by new historicism, more and more scholars have been tapping into the truth of history by interpreting the literary texts of history in China. This paper aims at telling the impact of new historicism on Chinese scholars, writers, and readers by analyzing the characteristics of history books, historical novels and new historical novels.

As the first literary work written by Hong Kingston,The Woman Warrior evoked a strong response in the readers immediately after it was *** on the theory of"self-fashioning" of new historicism,this paper analyzes the female consciousness contained in the image of women in and studies the image of women in from three aspects,including "no-name" aunt,Kingston’s mother Moon Orchid and aunt Brave Orchid’s story,to analyze how women in The Woman Warrior "self-fashioning" in different background,so as to further interpret the changes in the female consciousness of different characters in The Woman Warrior.

Sara Jeannette Duncan(1861-1922)is a prominent Canadian female writer in her *** novel The Imperialist(1904),dealing primarily with Canadian nationality,is a sophisticated epitome of Canadian society that is most authentic to Canadian social and political life at the turn of the twentieth *** Imperialist,as a product of a historical context in Canadian literature,incorporates historical reality and fictional imagination,and presents an uncertainty and perplexity in the ideology of Canadians at the turn of the twentieth *** The Imperialist in the context of new historicism,this essay explores the intertextuality of the“historicity of texts”and the“textuality of history”.Furthermore,the essay investigates the circulation between literary text of The Imperialist and non-literary texts that surrounded it,revealing how literary text and historical-cultural context negotiate,circulate,and construct each other.

A new Historic View on Hamilton: An American Musical

Hamilton:An American Musical is the winner of 11 Tony awards in 2016. Telling the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton using largely hip-hop, the show revolutionized the way that story is told on Broadway. Looking closely at the creating process and the content of the musical, I find that the musical exhibits new historic traits. Viewing from the perspectives of the textuality of histories and the historicity of texts, this thesis aims at analyzing the new historic characteristics of the musical and exploring its significance.

本文以新历史主义理论为研究范式，以约翰·史密斯笔下的宝嘉康蒂叙述和由宝嘉康蒂故事改编而成的迪斯尼影片《风中奇缘》为分析对象，运用比较分析的方法，透析文本内部的政治、文化符码，揭示宝嘉康蒂故事改编的现实功效：解构“欧洲中心主义”，遮蔽殖民罪行。《风中奇缘》对“欧洲中心主义”的解构说明美国少数族裔群体寻求种族平等的呼声可以被美国社会主导话语所容许，《风中奇缘》对殖民罪行的遮蔽表明在涉及资本原始积累等政治敏感问题时，大众话语与社会主导话语“协商”的空间还是有限的。

The question of national identity is one of the most contradictory ones in postcolonial era and postcolonial *** can be considered the most important issue due to the existence of the identity crisis in all postcolonial *** process of decolonization of the countries subjected to colonial rule triggered a remarkable movement towards restoration of the national identities of the newly freed *** wasn’t an *** phenomenon is explored in most of Margaret Atwood’s novels,yet it has never so far become the subject of a full-scale analysis throughout the author’s entire fictional *** study examines the process of Canadian national identity’s evolution and transformation,reflected in the novels of ***,through the prism of postcolonial critical *** primary material consists of seven novels:The Edible Woman（1969）,Surfacing（1972）,Lady Oracle（1976）,Life Before Man（1979）,Cat’s Eye（1988）,The Robber Bride（1993）and The Blind Assassin（2000）.Grounding arguments in the works of theorists in the sphere of national identity including Benedict Anderson’s study on national identity’s construction,Northrop Frye’s study on Canadian identity crisis,Edward Said’s Orientalism,***’s research on the production of discriminatory identities the researcher attempts to conduct a deeper analysis of ***’s views on the problem of national identity’s acquisition by *** thesis’s methodological basis lies in postcolonial literary criticism and new historical literary *** of these approaches are necessary in order to reach an adequate understanding of the author’s philosophical and ideological position,that is,the influence of the question of the national identity’s recreation in a postcolonial society on Atwood’s literary *** study also examines the reverse process,*** influence of ***’s novels on the process of strengthening the national identity of the Canadian *** thesis is divided into s

Ian McEwan’s Machines Like Me,published in 2019,depicts the parallel world of London in 1982,when artificial intelligence field was well beyond our current level of *** Britain’s defeat in the Falklands War,Tony Benn was elected Prime *** Alan Turing,the father of artificial intelligence,did not commit *** storyline is full of intertextual expressions,with the setting beyond the British Isles and the narrative structure abandoning the coherence in the traditional novel in favour of a fragmented feature that closely integrates the individual with the society and the *** paper analyses McEwan’s textual presentation of Britain’s post-World War II history from three perspectives:textual truth,historical fiction,and historical reflection,in the context of the new historicism,and explores how McEwan approaches the deconstruction of power discourses and *** paper aims to achieve reflection on the past,concern for the present and early warning for the future under textuality of histories and historicity of text.
