BECTS and CAE: a possible neurobiological continuum

Authors of the letter made an interesting and intriguing proposal: they introduce the concept that a child already affected by benign epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BECTS) when manifests contemporary or subsequent the symptoms of childhood absence epilepsy (CAE), he/she could be affected by an atypical form of BECTS, despite the fact that the coexistence of these idiopathic epilepsy remains controversial and has been rarely observed. BECTS and CAE could be pathophysiologically linked, possibly with an underlying genetic mechanism.

Context-and time-dependent neurobiological and behavioral sensitization induced by a single morphine exposure in mice

Background and Aim Drug-induced sensitization in the mesocorticolimbic systems has been thought to play an important role in certain aspects of drug addiction, including the important function of drug-associated cues and environments in mediating drug-seeking behaviors. Our previous studies have identified a role of heat shock protein 70 （Hsp70） in the development of a single exposure morphine-induced behavioral sensitization. Methods The present study investigated the effect of environment on the expression of behavioral sensitization in- duced by a single morphine exposure, and associated Hsp70 levels. Results Our results showed that expression of single exposure morphine-induced behavioral sensitization was accompanied by a significant increase of Hsp70 ex- mice administered morphine in an unpaired fashion failed pression in the nucleus accumbens （NAc）. In contrast, to exhibit behavioral sensitization or higher Hsp70 expression. Additionally, by using a habituation process before we found that there was a transition from conditioned hyperactivity to be- challenge to remove conditioned response, havioral sensitization, the former of which was not accompanied by an increased expression of Hsp70. Conclusions Together, these results suggest that behavioral sensitization induced by a single morphine exposure in mice exhib- its context- and time-dependent patterns with environmental context functioning probably via an inhibitory condition- ing mechanism. Alteration of Hsp70 expression in NAc may represent a neurobiological sensitization mechanism mediating context- and time-dependent behavioral sensitization.

Effect of cognitive behavioral therapy on the functional connectivity of cognitive control network in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder

Objective To investigate the regulatory effect of cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT)on the functional connectivity of cognitive control network in untreated obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD)patients,so as to provide evidence for understanding the neurobiological mechanism of *** A total of 45 OCD patients and 45 matched normal controls were recruited at the out-patient clinic in Beijing Anding *** therapists provided 14 times of CBT treatment for OCD *** subjects underwent clinical symptom assessment and magnetic resonance imaging at baseline and at the end of 12 *** clinical symptoms were assessed by the psychiatrists using Y-BOCS,HAMD1 7 and *** clinical symptoms of OCD patients before and after CBT treatment were *** GRETNA software package was used to preprocess the resting-state f MRI *** whole brain function network was constructed with the template of Power 264 functional brain area as the network *** function connection intensity outside the cognitive control network was calculated,and the function connection of the 2 groups of brain networks at two time points were compared by repeated measurement of variance *** A total of 41 patients completed *** scores of obsessive-compulsive symptoms,anxiety symptoms and depressive symptoms decreased at the end of 12th week,of which 32 patients were improved(Y-BOCS reduction≥35%).Single factor repeated analysis of variance and post hoc tests were performed between patients with improvement and the normal *** baseline,the functional connection between the cingulo-opercular network and the salience network of OCD patients was lower than that of the normal control(0.172±0.060 vs.0.215±0.076,t=1.731,P=0.040),it increased after treatment(0.186±0.171 vs.0.172±0.060,t=2.480,P=0.010).At baseline,the functional connection of cingulo-opercular network and subcortical network in OCD patients was lower than that of the normal controls(0.119±0.081 vs.
