＜正＞A hydrothermal process was developed for synthesis of MgAl2O4 spinel precursor. The precursor began to crystallize to form the MgAl2O4 structure at 350 ℃ and phase-pure spinel could be obtained after the precursor was calcined at 1000 ℃ for 1 h. Characterization revealed that the powder calcined at 350 ℃ was weakly agglomerated and had a specific surface area of 166 m2/g. Sintering behaviors of the powder calcined at 350 ℃ were studied via non-isothermal experiments. It demonstrated that the powder calcined at 350 ℃ had high sintering activity. Dense MgAl2O4 ceramics with -99% of the theoretical density could be obtained at 1200 ℃ for 5h.
