multimedia synchronization is the essential technology for the integration of multimedia in distributed multimedia systems. The multimedia synchronization model has been recognized by many researchers as a premise of the implementation of multimedia synchronization. In distributed multimedia systems, the characteristic of multimedia synchronization is dynamic, and the key medium has the priority in multimedia synchronization. The previously proposed multimedia synchronization models cannot meet these requirements. So a new multimedia dynamic synchronization model-DSPN,based on the timed4etri-net has been designed in this paper. This model can not only let the distributed multimedia system keep multimedia synchronization in a more precise and effective manner according to the runtime situation of the system, but also allow the. user to interact with the presentation of multimedia.

From the viewpoint of Cybernetics, multimedia playout synchronization system is a closed loop control system. The paper analyses the stability of a typical buffer-oriented playout synchronization model~ [1] with Routh criterion. The sufficient and necessary condition of system stability is obtained. The restriction relationship between two important system parameters: synchronization adaptation phase L and smoothing factor а is also given.

Recent advances in wireless mobile computing, digital library, and distributed multimedia technologies are stimulating the development of mobile multimedia digital library systems （ M2DLS） that allow mobile clients to access multimedia material anywhere and anytime over a cellular radio network. This paper addresses the problem of providing synchronized multimedia retrieval in these sys- tems. An efficient inter-media synchronization scheme called wireless prioritized feedback （WPF） for mobile multimedia on-demand retrieval in digital library systems over CDMA cellular radio networks in the absence of synchronized clocks is presented. In the WPF scheme, base stations use preferential lightweight message called feedback units transmitted by mobile mediaphones to detect and correct asynchronies. The algorithm is described with pseudo code, and experiments are described to demonstrate the efficiency of WPF.

A fine grained distributed multimedia synchronization model——Enhanced Fuzzy timing Petri Net was proposed which is good at modeling indeterminacy and fuzzy. To satisfy the need of maximum tolerable jitter, the sufficient conditions are given in intra object synchronization. Method to find a proper granularity in inter object synchronization is also given to satisfy skew. Exceptions are detected and corrected as early as possible using restricted blocking method.
