Microstructures and properties of Si_3N_4/TiN ceramic nano-multilayer films

The polycrystalline Si3N4/TiN ceramic nano-multilayer films have been synthesized on Si substrates by a reactive magnetron Sputtering technique, aiming at investigating the effects of modulation ratio and modulation period on the microhardness and to elucidate the hardening mechanisms of the synthesized nanomultilayer films. The results showed that the hardness of Si3N4/TiN nano-multilayers is affected not only by modulation period, but also by modulation ratio. The hardness reaches its maximum value when modulation period equa1s a critical value λ0, which is about 12 nm with a modulation ratio of 3: 1. The maximum hardness value is about 40% higher than the value calculated from the rule of mixtures. The hardness of nano-multilayer thin films was found to decrease rapidly with increasing or decreasing modulation period from the Point of λ0. The microstructures of the nano-multilayer films have been investigated using XRD and TEM. Based on experimental results, the mechanism of the superhardness in this system was proposed.

Exchange coupling multilayer thin films, which combined giant magnetostriction and soft magnetic properties, were of growing interest for applications. The TbFe/FeAl multilayer thin films were prepared by dc magnetron sputtering onto glass substrates. The microstructure, magnetic, and magnetostrictive properties of TbFe/FeAl multilayer thin film was investigated at different annealing temperatures. The results indicated that the soft magnetic and magnetostrictive properties for TbFe/FeAlmultilayer thin film compared with TbFe single layer film were obviously improved./n comparison with the intrinsic coercivity JHo of 59.2 kA/m for TbFe single layer film, the intrinsic coercivity jHc for TbFe/FeAl multilayer thin films rapidly dropped to 29.6 kA/m. After optimal annealing （350 ℃×60 min）, magnetic properties of Hs=96 kA/m and jHc=16 kA/m were obtained, and magnetostrictive coefficient could reach to 574×10^-6 under an external magnetic field of 400 kA·m^-1 for the TbFe/FeA1 multilayer thin film.

A numerical model of multilayer organic light-emitting devices is presented in this article. This model is based on the drift-diffusion equations which include charge injection, transport, space charge effects, trapping, heterojunction interface and recombination process. The device structure in the simulation is ITO/CuPc （20 nm）/NPD （40 nm）/Alq3 （60 nm）/LiF/Al. There are two heterojunctions which should be dealt with in the simulation. The I-V characteristics, carrier distribution and recombination rate of a device are calculated. The simulation results and measured data are in good agreement.

We systematically investigate the resistive switching characteristics of SiO_(2) films with a Cu/SiO_(2)/Cu/SiO_(2)/Pt multilayer structure.The device exhibits good resistive switching performances,including a high ON/OFF resistance ratio(>103),good retention characteristic(>10^(4)s),satisfactory switching endurance(>200 cycles),a fast programming speed(<100 ns)and a high device yield(∼100%).Considering these results,SiO_(2)-based memories have highly promising applications for nonvolatile memory devices.

Lunnan region is a large-scale paleohigh with many coexisting oil and gas bearing series.At present, about 2 billions tons of proved,probable and possible oil and gas reverses have been proved there.Eight oil and gas bearing series have been found in the Ordovician,Carboniferous,Triassic and Jurassic of Lunnan region,they all bear the characteristics of large-scale multilayer oil-gas province.Ordovician is the main reservoir series where over 0.8 billion tons of oil geologic reserves were discovered,and a super large-scale marine carbonate oil and gas field has formed.Reservoir space of the carbonate reservoirs is mainly composed of dissolved hole,dissolved pore and fracture in Lunnan paleo-burial hill.Generally, dissolved holes are widely distributed among them.Reservoir developments are mainly controlled by karstification and tectonic disruption.Due to the similar geochemical characters,the Ordovician,Carboniferous,Triassic and Jurassic oil and gas reservoirs present the same oil source rock of Mid-Upper Ordovician,the latter except Ordovician are mostly of secondary oil and gas reservoirs migrated vertically by faults during the process of multiple phase tectonic movement,adjustment and reconstruction. Lunnan composite oil and gas accumulation region is situated in the vicinity of large-scale hydrocarbon generation depressions in three directions,ample oil and gas from hydrocarbon generation depressions supplied the adjacent oil and gas reservoirs once.Hereby,the succeed paleohigh is the long-term hydrocarbon accumulation region,which is favor for the formations of high quality reservoirs,fault systems and huge-scale composite oil and gas accumulation.

From such actual conditions as the effects of fluid mechanics in porous media and three-dimensional geology characteristics, the mathematical model and a kind of modified method of second order splitting-up implicit iterative scheme were put forward. For the actual problem of Dongying hollow (single layer) and Huimin hollow (multilayer) of Shengli Petroleum Oil Field, this numerical simulation test and the actual conditions are basically coincident, thus the well-known problem has been solved.

In common plasmonic structures,absorption and radiation losses are often mutually restricted and can seriously influence the device performance.The current study presents a compound structure composed of multilayer grating stripes and multilayer shallow trenches.A small depth was adopted for the trench configuration to exclude the extra bend loss.These two sections supported Fabry–Perot resonance and cavity modes,respectively,with hybrid modes formed through intercoupling.In addition,the total loss for the entire framework was clearly reduced due to the introduction of the trench geometry,indicating that both absorption and radiation losses were successfully taken into consideration in the compound structure.Significantly,such a low loss realized by the hybridization of surface plasmon polariton modes has rarely been seen before.Moreover,the debatable relationship between the total and partial quality factors was described for the first time based on a hybrid mode analysis to establish a new approach to investigate the different resonance modes.In the detailed calculation process,the relative electric field intensity was first adopted to stipulate the effective areas for the various modes,which is more reasonable than using the common definition that is based on a unit structure.The multilayer trench grating exhibited a relatively low loss without weakening energy localization,which is significant in the design of plasmonic devices.

multilayer iridium coating was manufactured on tungsten carbide substrates by a double glow plasma process.As comparison,monolayer was also produced.The microstructure and morphology were observed using scanning electron microscopy.Grain orientation and phase were determined using X-ray diffraction.The residual stress of the coating was studied by glancing incidence X-ray diffraction.The adhesive force of the coating was measured by a scratch tester.The results showed that both monolayer and multilayer had a polycrystalline phase with a strong（110） reflection.The coating had an excellent adhesion with no evidence of delamination.The adhesive force of the monolayer and multilayer was about 50 and 43 N,respectively.The interfacial reaction between the substrate and the layer occurred and a new WIr phase was found due to the high-temperature deposition process.The residual stress in the monolayer and multilayer was-1.6 and-1.1 GPa,respectively.

Using the MEVVA ion source, carbon ions have been implanted in TiN coatings deposited by multi-arc ion plating The Vickers microhardness of the C+ -implanted TiN films increased with the increase in the ion flux and dose. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the TiC phases had been formed in the films. In addition, the films had the preferred growth orientations of TiN and TiC, both of which were (111) orientation after annealing at 500℃ for 30 min. Auger electron spectra analysis indicated that C+ -implanted profile was in typical Gaussian-like distribution in single films. The distribution with multipeaks of C atoms was obtained in multi-layer TiN/Ti. The possibility of the multilayer films (Ti (C, N)/TiN/Ti(C, N)/TiN and Ti(C, N)/TiC/Ti(C, N)/TiC) forming using the C-implanted TiN/Ti films is presented for the first time.
