Effects of coke charging pattern on burden movement in COREX melter gasifier based on physical simulation

A three-dimensional semicircle cold model of COREX melter gasifier(MG)was established,and the effects of coke charging pattern on burden movement were investigated by adopting this model.The burden flow pattern of packed bed was measured with different coke charging amounts,coke charging positions,and coke sizes.The results show that the solid flow pattern presents a change from straight line type to reverse U type and finally to W type in MG with traditional coke charging,while the burden flow pattern experiences the change from straight line type to W type with platform and finally W type under center coke charging,and the solid flow pattern presents a change from straight line type to W type with platform and finally W type under intermediate coke charging.The difference demonstrates that coke charging pattern affects the uniform descending in MG to some degree.The burden in the coke charging zone keeps a straight line descending.No matter what kind of coke charging pattern is adopted,the burden residence time is shortened with the increase in coke charging amount,and the vertex of deadman decreases obviously,which is conducive to the renewal of the deadman.The appropriate coke charging amount and coke size should be well controlled at 8.7%and 5 mm,respectively.The results are useful not only in developing further understanding of solid flow in MG but also in verifying different mathematical models,particularly the coupled discrete element method with computational fluid dynamics simulation which has been increasingly used in the literature.

DEAR EDITOR,movement patterns can reflect species-specific characteristics of individuals and animal groups at a given scale. Accurate three-dimensional(3D) assessment can quantify the relationship between movement patterns of an animal and its unique habitat. Here, we evaluated the effects of habitat structure on movement patterns of the golden snub-nosed monkey(Rhinopithecus roxellana). We used airborne light detection and ranging(LiDAR) to map the 3D structure of the temperate forest in the Qinling Mountains(Shaanxi, China).

To the Editor:Dislocation of the mobile bearing is the most common reason for revisions in Asian patients who undergo Oxford mobile-bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty(Oxford MB UKA),with an incidence rate as high as 7.9%.[1]Multiple studies have shown that the bearing dislocation rate is significantly higher in Asian than in Western patients.[2]A poor bearing movement trajectory was considered one of the risk factors.Malpositioning of the component results in a wider space between the margin of the bearing and the lateral wall of the tibial component,leading to a poor bearing movement trajectory and even bearing rotation.The superior surface is designed with high surrounding rims(higher in the anterior and posterior parts,lower in the medial and lateral parts).When rotation occurs,the lower rim loses its restriction to mutual movement of the bearing and femoral component,which leads to dislocation.

Dear Editor,Plant viruses spread from the initially infected cells to adjacent cells through plasmodesmata(PD) to complete their successful infections in host plants.This cell-to-cell movement requires specific viral protein(s),known as movement protein(s)(MP).Generally,virus MPs can bind to nucleic acids and modify PD size exclusion limit(Schoelz et al.,2011).Geminiviruses are DNA viruses that cause devastating losses to food crops worldwide,and encode 4–8 classical viral proteins(Gong et al.,2021;Hu et al.,2020.

Retrograde nerve growth factor signaling modulates tooth mechanical hyperalgesia induced by orthodontic tooth movement via acid-sensing ion channel 3

Orthodontic tooth movement elicits alveolar bone remodeling and orofacial pain that is manifested by tooth mechanical hyperalgesia.Nerve growth factor(NGF)is upregulated in periodontium and may modulate tooth mechanical hyperalgesia.The objectives were to examine the role of NGF in tooth mechanical hyperalgesia and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.Tooth mechanical hyperalgesia was induced by ligating closed coil springs between incisors and molars in Sprague–Dawley rats.Retrograde labeling was performed by periodontal administration of fluor-conjugated NGF and the detection of fluorescence in trigeminal ganglia(TG).Lentivirus vectors carrying NGF shRNA were employed to knockdown the expression of NGF in TG.The administration of agonists,antagonists,and virus vectors into TG and periodontium was conducted.Tooth mechanical hyperalgesia was examined through the threshold of biting withdrawal.Our results revealed that tooth movement elicited tooth mechanical hyperalgesia that could be alleviated by NGF neutralizing antibody and that NGF was upregulated in periodontium(mainly in periodontal fibroblasts)and TG.Retrograde labeling revealed that periodontal NGF was retrogradely transported to TG after day 1.Acid-sensing ion channel 3(ASIC3)and NGF were co-expressed in trigeminal neurons and the percentage of co-expression was significantly higher following tooth movement.The administration of NGF and NGF neutralizing antibody into TG could upregulate and downregulate the expression of ASIC3 in TG,respectively.NGF aggravated tooth mechanical hyperalgesia that could be alleviated by ASIC3 antagonist(APETx2).Moreover,NGF neutralizing antibody mitigated tooth mechanical hyperalgesia that could be recapitulated by ASIC3 agonist(GMQ).NGF-based gene therapy abolished tooth mechanical hyperalgesia and downregulated ASIC3 expression.Taken together,in response to force stimuli,periodontal fibroblasts upregulated the expressions of NGF that was retrogradely transported to TG,where NGF elicited tooth mechanical hyperalgesia th

As sessile organisms,plants perceive,respond,and adapt to the environmental changes for optimal growth and survival.The plant growth and fitness are enhanced by circadian clocks through coordination of numerous biological events.In legume species,nitrogen-fixing root nodules were developed as the plant organs specialized for symbiotic transfer of ni-trogen between microsymbiont and host.Here,we report that the endogenous circadian rhythm in nodules is regulated by MtLHY in legume species Medicago truncatula.Loss of function of MtLHY leads to a reduction in the number of nodules formed,resulting in a diminished ability to assimilate nitrogen.The operation of the 24-h rhythm in shoot is further influenced by the availability of nitrogen produced by the nodules,leading to the irregulated nyctinastic leaf movement and reduced biomass in mtlhy mutants.These data shed new light on the roles of MtLHY in the orchestration of circadian oscillator in nodules and shoots,which provides a mechanistic link between nodulation,nitrogen assimilation,and clock function.

Trehalose-6-phosphate phosphatase E modulates ABA-controlled root growth and stomatal movement in Arabidopsis

Trehalose plays important roles in plant growth and stress responses and is synthesized from trehalose-6-phosphate by trehalose-6-phosphate phosphatase(TPP).Here,we show that trehalose and abscisic acid(ABA)have synergistic effects on root growth and stomatal closure.The Arabidopsis thaliana genome contains ten genes encoding TPPs and the expression level of one,TPPE,and trehalose contents increased in response to ABA.In the pres-ence of ABA,the ABA-responsive transcription factor ABA RESPONSE ELEMENT BINDING FACTOR2(ABF2)directly binds to the TPPE promoter to activate its expression.Genetic analysis revealed that TPPE acts downstream of ABF2,which is supported by the findings that TPPE expression and trehalose content are reduced in the abf2 mutant and that a mutation in TPPE abolished the ABA-sensitive root elongation phenotype of 35S:ABF2 plants.Reactive oxygen spe-cies(ROS)accumulation in response to ABA failed to occur in tppe mutant plants,suggesting that TPPE is involved in ABA-controlled root elongation and sto-matal movement by inducing ROS accumulation.This study uncovers a new branch of the ABA signaling pathway and provides a molecular basis for the role of trehalose in plant responses to abiotic stress.

Modified constraint-induced movement therapy alters synaptic plasticity of rat contralateral hippocampus following middle cerebral artery occlusion

Modified constraint-induced movement therapy is an effective treatment for neurological and motor impairments in patients with stroke by increasing the use of their affected limb and limiting the contralateral limb.However,the molecular mechanism underlying its efficacy remains unclear.In this study,a middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)rat model was produced by the suture method.Rats received modified constraint-induced movement therapy 1 hour a day for 14 consecutive days,starting from the 7^th day after middle cerebral artery occlusion.Day 1 of treatment lasted for 10 minutes at 2r/min,day 2 for 20 minutes at 2 r/min,and from day 3 onward for 20 minutes at 4 r/min.CatWalk gait analysis,adhesive removal test,and Y-maze test were used to investigate motor function,sensory function as well as cognitive function in rodent animals from the 1st day before MCAO to the 21^st day after MCAO.On the 21^st day after MCAO,the neurotransmitter receptor-related genes from both contralateral and ipsilateral hippocampi were tested by micro-array and then verified by western blot assay.The glutamate related receptor was shown by transmission electron microscopy and the glutamate content was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography.The results of behavior tests showed that modified constraint-induced movement therapy promoted motor and sensory functional recovery in the middle cerebral artery-occluded rats,but had no effect on cognitive function.The modified constraint-induced movement therapy upregulated the expression of glutamate ionotropic receptor AMPA type subunit 3(Gria3)in the hippocampus and downregulated the expression of the beta3-adrenergic receptor gene Adrb3 and arginine vasopressin receptor 1 A,Avprla in the middle cerebral artery-occluded rats.In the ipsilateral hippocampus,only Adra2 a was downregulated,and there was no significant change in Gria3.Transmission electron microscopy revealed a denser distribution the more distribution of postsynaptic glutamate receptor 2/3,which is an a-amino-3-hydrox

Social-ecological correlates of fundamental movement skills in young children

Purpose: To identify the social-ecological correlates associated with fundamental movement skills at the child, family, and environment levels in young children.Methods: Preschool children from 4 Colorado Head Start/preschool centers were recruited from 2010 to 2012. Two hundred twenty-eight children(128 girls; age = 56.08 § 4.09 months; body mass index(BMI) z-score = 0.53 § 1.12(mean § SD); 42.1% Hispanic/Latino) and 159 families were included in the final analysis. Children's perceived competence and fundamental movement skills were assessed via the Pictorial Scale of Perceived Competence and Social Acceptance and the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, 2 nd edition. Data on the number of children in the family, parent age, BMI, education, employment status, family income, perception of child coordination, and home physical activity environment were collected via a questionnaire. Linear regressions adjusted for child BMI, age, sex, and school site were performed at each level.Results: Child perceived cognitive competence was positively associated with locomotor skills(p = 0.04; adjusted R2= 0.035) and object-control skills(p = 0.003; adjusted R2= 0.083) at the child level. Parent education, BMI, and perception of child coordination were positively associated with locomotor skills and explained 8.8% of variance, but only parent education was significant(p = 0.04) at the family level. In addition, physical environment was positively associated with locomotor skills(p = 0.02) and explained 5.5% of variance at the environment level.Conclusion: Social-ecological correlates associated with young children's fundamental movement skills are multidimensional and differ according to skill category at the child, family, and environment levels.
