Dispersion of ultrafine alumina in modifier solution ——the role of polar interfacial interaction

Dispersion of ultrafine alumina suspension is examined by using particle size analyzer. The zeta potential and contact angle measurements were used to discuss the electrokinetic behavior and surface wettability of alumina in modifier solution, and to calculate the electrostatic interaction forces and interfacial interaction forces between alumina particles. The aggregation of ultrafine alumina occurs near its PZC. Addition of modifier increases the zeta potential of alumina and its surface hydrophilicity, resulting in increase of electrostatic and hydration repulsion. It makes the suspension of ultrafine alumina completely dispersed. The average particle size of the suspension is decreased from 1.73 μm in absence of modifier to 0.8 μm in the presence of tripolyphosphate. According to polar interfacial interaction approach, the hydration forces responsible for the stability of alumina suspension in the presence of modifier have also been obtained. The extended DLVO theory is successful to describe the dispersion behavior of ultrafine alumina in modifier solution.

Effects of Quicklime and Iron Tailings as modifier on Composition and Properties of Steel Slag

Steel slag had lower activity and much lower hydration rate than cement. Quicklime and iron tailings were designed as modification agent to adjust the composition and properties of high temperature steel slag. The results show that quicklime as modifier can greatly increase the content of cementitious minerals in modified steel slag and also promote the decomposition of RO phases and transformation of MgO in RO phase to f-MgO. After high temper- ature modification with compound modifier of quicklime and iron tailings, steel slag shows the main mineral phases of C3S, C2F and MgFe2O4. The activity index of modified steel slag at 28 days reaches 95.5% when the steel slag is modified by 15% of the compound modifier with the ratio of quicklime to iron tailings equal to 2 ： 1 at 1 350 ℃. Mo- reover, the sample with the modified steel slag exhibits the dense structure of hydration paste and the main hydration products of C-S-H gels and Ca（OH）2 crystals.

AIM To investigate the function and mechanism of ubiquitinlike modifier activating enzyme 2(Uba2) in progression of gastric cancer(GC) *** Uba2 level in patients with GC was analyzed by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. MTT and colony formation assays were performed to examine cell *** cytometry was used for cell cycle *** healing and Transwell assays were conducted to examine the effects of Uba2 on migration and *** levels of cell cycle-related proteins, epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT) biomarkers, and involvement of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway was assessed by Western blotting. Activation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway was confirmed by luciferase *** Uba2 expression was higher in GC than in normal *** Uba2 expression was correlated with tissue differentiation, Lauren's classification, vascular invasion,and TNM stage, as determined by the analysis of 100 GC cases(P < 0.05). Knock-down of Uba2 inhibited GC cell proliferation, induced cell cycle arrest, and altered expression of cyclin D1, P21, P27, and Bcl-2, while upregulation of Uba2 showed the opposite effects. The wound healing and Transwell assays showed that Uba2 promoted GC cell migration and invasion. Western blotting revealed alterations in EMT biomarkers, suggesting the role of Uba2 in EMT. Furthermore, the luciferase reporter assay indicated the involvement of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway as a possible modulator of Uba2 oncogenic *** Uba2 plays a vital role in GC cell migration and invasion,possibly by regulating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and EMT.

A supercritical CO2 extraction behavior of Eucalyptus oil was investigated under different conditions of pressure, temperature and time with or without cosolvent. The pressure range was from 8 to 25 MPa, temperature from 35 to 55°C and CO2 flow rate from 10 to 26 g/min. For 1,8-cineole the appropriate extracting pressure was 15 MPa and temperature was 45°C. When CO2 flow rate was 18 g/min, it was benefit to extract the other three substances (limonene, p-cymene and γ-terpinene, respectively) except 1,8-cineole. Prolonging extraction time could not obviously increase the extract concentration, but the extract yield would increase. The results also indicated that ethanol as a modifier could improve extraction velocity and extraction concentration.

Doppler weather radar has important applications in measuring the intrinsic factors of cloud, rainfall and various convective weather occurrences. Among them, CINRAD/CB Doppler weather radar is based on the requirements of the China Meteorological Administration and many units have been provided. The modulator is a critical part of the transmitter’s high voltage, where high voltage, high current, and energy conversion are concentrated. It is therefore necessary to redesign the transmitter modulator cooling system protection. This article describes the new design of hardware and software solutions. The fan is a DV5214/2N DC fan from Ebmpapst, Germany. The speed is up to 5000 rpm, the power is 18.5 W, and the single fan current is about 0.8 A. It is powered by 28 V. The protection board uses a DC/DC module to output a 5 V voltage and a 3.3 V voltage adjustment chip LM1117. The embedded web software is based on the TCP/IP protocol stack provided by MICROCHIP. After the cooling system is designed and installed in the radar station in Xi’an, China and other places, after long-term operation, the comprehensive test shows that the system runs well.

Genetic modifier genes for inherited heart and muscle disease

Genetic mutations in single genes lead to inherited forms of cardiac and muscle disease. Cardiomyopathy from genetic mutations may develop in early or later life and may be associated with heart failure or be *** range of clinical outcome with inherited cardiomyopathy within families where there is a single genetic defect is,in part,determined by other genetic *** hypothesized that the interaction of single gene mutations with common genetic variants was responsible for cardiac and muscle *** a mouse model, we used a whole genome approach to identify genes that cause more severe heart and muscle disease. We identified a genetic locus on chromosome 7 that was significantly associated with severe *** identified the causative gene as Ltbp4,a gene that encodes the latent TGFbeta binding *** found that increased TGFbeta signaling was seen in the severely affected heart and muscle compared to the mildly affected *** found that increased proteolytic cleavage of LTBP4 protein was associated with increased SMAD *** data support a model where increased proteolytic cleavage of LTBP4 results in increased TGFbeta release and *** also identified other genetic regions that influence the severity of cardiomyopathy in this model.A genetic region on chromosome 9 was specifically associated with increased cardiac fibrosis in *** modifier genes helps explain pathways important for modulating heart and muscle disease and may point to pathways that can be used therapeutically.(Supported by NIH,the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.)

Dimethyldistearylammonium Bromide (DODMAB) is a bentonite modifier with good performance. In this experiment, 1-Bromooctadecane is the raw material, and completes tertiary amination and quaternization successively by changing the condition of experiment. The result is that the productivity can achieve 78.94% in the synthesis of DODMAB. It has been used in the experiment of bentonite modification and achieves good results;compared with using trimethylstearylammonium bromide as the organic modifier, the synthetic organic bentonite has better performance than the common organic modifier when used in the oil base drilling fluid of oilfield operation.
