Leishmaniasis is a serious parasitic disease caused by Leishmania species transmitted by the bite of sandflies. This disease is also an important public health problem. Clinical manifestations can be classified as cutaneous, mucocutaneous, and visceral leishmaniasis, depending on the species of parasite and the host’s immune status. Although the cutaneous form is not fatal, it often causes disfiguring scars on the skin[1].

Background and purpose The relationship of high-sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)levels and infarction numbers with the prognosis of stroke is uncertain.This study evaluated the association of different hs-CRP levels and infarction numbers with the prognosis of acute minor ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack(TIA).Methods A subset of 807 patients with both hs-CRP measurement and baseline MRI was included from the Clopidogrel in High-risk Patients with Acute Non-disabling Cerebrovascular Events trial.The primary efficacy outcome was the occurrence of an ischaemic stroke at the 1-year follow-up.Infarction numbers were classified as multiple acute infarctions(MAIs),single acute infarction and no acute infarction(NAI).The association between different hs-CRP levels with different infarction numbers and the risk of any outcome was analysed using multivariable Cox regression models.Results Among the 807 patients,84(10.4%)patients had a recurrent ischaemic stroke within 1 year.After adjustment for conventional confounding factors,patients with both elevated hs-CRP levels and MAIs were associated with approximately 4.7-fold of risk of ischaemic stroke within 1 year(16.7% vs 3.5%,HR 4.68,95% CI 1.54 to 14.23,p=0.007),compared with those with non-elevated hs-CRP levels and NAI.Similar results were observed for the composite events.Conclusions Combined elevated hs-CRP levels and MAIs may increase 1-year stroke risk stratification efficiency in patients with minor ischaemic stroke or TIA compared with using those markers alone,which indicated that the combination of inflammatory and imaging markers might improve the effectiveness of risk stratification concerning minor ischaemic stroke or TIA.

Bark beetles Tomicus yunnanensis and T.minor are two important pests of Pinus yunnanensis and can cause massive death of pine trees.In this study,we examined several traits related to photosynthesis in P.yunnanensis and their relationship with antibiotic defense responses after joint attack by the two bark beetles at the shoot and the trunk stages.When shoots were attacked by the beetles,the abundance of chlorophylls,carotenoids,and the rates of net photosynthesis(Pn)and transpiration(E)decreased in needles,while the levels of superoxide dismutase and malondialdehyde remained unchanged in both needles and phloem.The activity of peroxidases also remained unchanged in needles,but increased in phloem.The activity of catalases increased in both needles and phloem.When trunks were attacked by the bark beetles,chlorophyll abundance,Pn,E,and antioxidative enzyme activities all declined,and the declines were more pronounced than in the attacked shoots.A decrease in protein concentrations was also observed in needles and phloem from the attacked pines.Attack on shoots by the bark beetles suppressed host defense and provided a favorable environment for larval growth and development,resulting in long-term decline of pine growth potential.The results suggest that attacks on trunks by beetles caused more severe damage to host trees than attacks on shoots.

Octopus minor is widely distributed along the northern coast of China. To date, there is little information on the prey selection process of this species. To understand this process, several experiments were carried out. Three types of bivalves, namely, Ruditapes philippinarum , Mactra chinensis , and Mytilus galloprovincialis , were used to observe the prey selection of O . minor and to analyze the potential causes of prey selection from three aspects: prey profi tability, adductor muscle tension and handling time. Under single-prey conditions, we found that the average (±SD) predation rates of O . minor on R . philippinarum , M . chinensis , and M . galloprovincialis were 1.73±0.50, 1.27±0.42, and 0.8±0.2/d, respectively. Under diff erent prey combinations, octopods actively selected one type of prey over the other(s), and the order of prey preference was R . philippinarum , followed by M . chinensis and lastly M. galloprovincialis . Furthermore, the shells of the consumed prey showed that O . minor only consumed bivalves by pulling them apart since there was no evidence of drill holes on the shells. The prey selection of O . minor was related to the prey profi tability and handling time;O . minor appeared to select preys with a higher profi tability and a shorter handling time. However, the diffi culty in opening the bivalve was not consistent with the prey preference of the octopods. These results suggest that O . minor prefers to consume R . philippinarum possibly due to a high profi tability and a short handling time that supports the optimum Foraging Theory.

BACKGROUND Anti-D antibody is not the common cause of Rh-isoimmunization in Chinese neonatal jaundice.Recent change in national population policy has followed by an increase in Rh-isoimmunization related hemolytic disease of the newborn(HDN).Unfortunately,regional status of Rh-HDN is unavailable.We hypothesize that Rh-HDN in our region is most commonly due to anti-E antibody.AIM To investigate the prevalence of hemolytic disease of the newborn due to Rhisoimmunization in Hefei City.METHODS Retrospective review of data obtained from Children’s Hospital of Anhui and Hefei Blood Center between January 2017 and June 2019.Status of minor blood group antibody was studied in the corresponding mothers.RESULTS Totally 4138 newborns with HDN admitted during the study period and 116(2.8%)received blood exchange transfusion(BET).Eighteen newborns(0.43%)with proven Rh-incompatible HDN were identified.All were not the first-born baby.Thirteen mothers were RhD(+)(72%)and five were RhD(-).The distribution of Rh-related antibodies in mothers was ten anti-E(55%),five anti-D(27%),and for one anti-C,anti-c,and anti-E/c(6%)each.Thirteen(72.2%)were qualified for BET,relative risk for BET was 28.9 as compared to other types of HDN,but only 10 received due to parenteral refusal.All(100%)RhD related HDN received BET which is not significantly different from RhE related HDN(81.8%).CONCLUSION As expected,all Rh-incompatible HDN newborns were not the first-born.Contrary to the Caucasian population,anti-D induced HDN is not the most common etiology.In our region,anti-E(11/18,61%)is the most common cause of Rh-HDN.

The accessory pancreatic duct (APD) is the main drainage duct of the dorsal pancreatic bud in the embryo,entering the duodenum at the minor duodenal papilla (MIP).With the growth,the duct of the dorsal bud undergoes varying degrees of atrophy at the duodenal end.Patency of the APD in 291 control cases was 43% as determined by dye-injection endoscopic retrograde pancreatography.Patency of the APD in 46 patients with acute pancreatitis was only 17%,which was significantly lower than in control cases (P < 0.01).The terminal shape of the APD was correlated with APD patency.Based on the data about correlation between the terminal shape of the APD and its patency,the estimated APD patency in 167 patients with acute pancreatitis was 21%,which was signif icantly lower than in control cases (P < 0.01).A patent APD may function as a second drainage system for the main pancreatic duct to reduce the pressure in the main pancreatic duct and prevent acute pancreatitis.Pancreatographic f indings of 91 patients with pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM) were divided into a normal duct group (80 patients) and a dorsal pancreatic duct (DPD) dominant group (11 patients).While 48 patients (60%) with biliary carcinoma (gallbladder carcinoma,n=42;bile duct carcinoma,n=6) were identified in PBM with a normal pancreatic duct system,only two cases of gallbladder carcinoma (18%) occurred in DPD-dominant patients (P < 0.05).Concentration of amylase in the bile of DPD dominance was signifi cantly lower than that of normal pancreatic duct system (75 403.5 ± 82 015.4 IU/L vs 278 157.0 ± 207 395.0 IU/L,P < 0.05).In PBM with DPD dominance,most pancreatic juice in the upper DPD is drained into the duodenum via the MIP,and reflux of pancreatic juice to the biliary tract might be reduced,resulting in less frequency of associated biliary carcinoma.

Multivariate(n-D)polynomial matrix factorization is one of important research contents in multidimensional(n-D)systems,circuits,and signal processing.In this paper,several results on n-D polynomial matrices factorization over arbitrary coefficient fields are proved.Based on these results,generalizations of some results on general matrix factorization are obtained for given n-D polynomial matrices whose maximal order minors or lower order minors satisfy certain conditions.The proposed results fit for arbitrary coefficient field and have a wide range of application.
