Endoscopic Assisted Eyebrow Craniotomy for Anterior Cranial Fossa Lesions: Clinical and Cosmetic Outcomes

Background: The eyebrow supraorbital keyhole approach could be considered a modified minimally invasive model for the classic pterional subfrontal approach in which an eyebrow incision and supraorbital mini craniotomy are performed for exposure of the anterior cranial fossa corridor. Methods: This study was retrospectively conducted on twenty four patients, age ranging from 20 to 65 years old, with anterior cranial fossa lesions who were meeting the eligibility criteria for eyebrow craniotomy in the period from August 2019 to January 2023. These patients were operated through eyebrow supraorbital approach in which microscopic endoscopic assisted technique were used. Extent of resection, clinical and cosmetic outcomes and complication incidence were assessed. Results: We included the twenty four patients who met inclusion criteria (17 females and 7 males) their ages ranged from 20 to 65 years. The most common pathology was meningioma in 19 patients. Two patients experienced supraorbital loss of sensation and only one patient experienced palsy of frontalis branch of facial nerve. Frontal sinus was breached in 3 patients with no patient experienced postoperative CSF leak. Total excision was accomplished for 23 patients. Four patients who had preoperative visual compromise, improvement of visual acuity and field defects was observed in 3 patients. No major intraoperative complications occurred. All patients filled cosmetic satisfaction questionnaire during their outpatient visits. For the eyebrow supraorbital approach, no incision related intolerable pain, no craniotomy defects or irregularities, no cosmetic complaints nor limitation of jaw opening were reported, and only minor symptoms in the form of limited eyebrow elevation, swelling and numbness in the forehead. Conclusions: The eyebrow craniotomy could be used safely as a more cosmetic and minimally invasive approach for a variety of anterior cranial fossa lesions. microscopic view of phytoplankton along the Yangtze River

Phytoplankton play an important role in nutrient cycling and energy conversion. However, phytoplankton community is poorly understood in large river ecosystems. Based on the large-scale samplings conducted in spring and autumn of 2017, a systematic study has been made on seasonal and spatial distributions of phytoplankton community along the mainstream of the Yangtze River. As results, 6 phyla were identified and 59 phytoplankton species were detected using microscopy, including Bacillariophyta(29 species), Chlorophyta(13 species) and Cyanophyta(8 species) as the dominant group. Moreover, the density of phytoplankton was ranged 0.05×10^6–1.90×10^6 cells/L and the biomass was 0.01–1.01 mg/L, both reaching their maximum in the middle reach from Yichang to Wuhan. Significant seasonal difference of phytoplankton community was observed and spatial dissimilarity in spring was revealed. The cell abundance and biomass of phytoplankton could be fairly estimated by chlorophylla, and redundancy analysis indicated that water temperature, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, nitrite, and ammonia nitrogen were the most important explanatory environmental factors for phytoplankton compositions in the Yangtze River.

A unified poroviscoelastic model with mesoscopic and microscopic heterogeneities

The wave-induced fluid flow(WIFF) is considered to be the main cause of dispersion and attenuation of seismic waves in fluid-saturated porous media. Among numerous theories, the mesoscopic and microscopic heterogeneities are considered to be the primary mechanisms causing the WIFF. Furthermore,in most rocks, the mesoscopic and microscopic heterogeneities exist simultaneously and can cause obvious transitions of the fast P-wave velocity, which means it is necessary to consider the influence of the two mechanisms on the dispersion and attenuation simultaneously. Numerous results have shown that the dispersions and attenuations caused by these two mechanisms can be approximated in terms of the Zener model. To combine the two mechanisms into a unified model, we introduce a new generalized Zener model into the Biot poroelasticity theory to obtain a new poroviscoelastic model. Comparisons between the numerical results and two groups of experimental data further confirm the validity of our new model.

microscopic structures of ionic liquids 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate in water probed by the relative chemical shift

The relative chemical shifts (△δ) △δwere put forward to investigate the microscopic structure of 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EmimBF4) during the dilution process with water.The concentration-dependent △δ(C2)H-(C4)H,△δ(C2)H-(C5)H and △δ(C4)H-(C5)H were analyzed.The results reveal that the variations of the microscopic structures of three aromatic protons are inconsistent.The strength of the H-bond between water and three aromatic protons follows the order:(C2)H···O > (C4)H···O > (C5)H···O.The concentration-dependent △δ(C6)H-(C7)H and △δ(C6)H-(C8)H indicate the formation of the H-bonds of (Calkyl)H···O is impossible,and more water is located around (C6)H than around (C7)H or (C8)H.The concentration-dependent △δ(C2)H-(C4)H and △δ(C2)H-(C5)H both increase rapidly when xwater > 0.9 or so,suggesting the ionic pairs of EmimBF4 are dissociated rapidly.The turning points of concentration-dependent △δ(C2)H-(C4)H and △δ(C2)H-(C5)H indicate that some physical properties of the EmimBF4/water mixtures also change at the corresponding concentration point.The microscopic structures of EmimBF4 in water could be clearly detected by the relative chemical shifts.

microscopic characteristics of different fracture modes of brittle rock

Three types of rock specimens, three-point bending specim en , anti-symmetric four-point bending specimen and direct shearing specimen, wer e used to achieve Mode Ⅰ, Mode Ⅱ and mixed mode Ⅰ-Ⅱ fracture, respectively . microscopic characteristics of the three fracture modes of brittle rock were s tudied by SEM technique in order to analyze fracture behaviors and better understand fr acture mechanisms of different fracture modes of brittle rock. Test results show that the microscopic characteristics of different fracture modes correspond to different fracture mechanisms. The surface of Mode Ⅰ fracture has a great numbe r of sparse and steep slip-steps with few tearing ridges and shows strong britt leness. In the surface of Mode Ⅱ fracture there exist many tearing ridges and d ensely distributed parallel slip-steps and it is attributed to the action of sh ear stress. The co-action of tensile and shear stresses results in brittle clea v age planes mixed with streamline patterns and tearing ridges in the surface of m ixed mode Ⅰ-Ⅱ fracture. The measured Mode Ⅱ fracture toughness K ⅡC and mixed mode Ⅰ-Ⅱ fracture toughness K mC are larger than Mode Ⅰ fracture t oughness K ⅠC . K ⅡC is about 3.5 times K ⅠC , a nd K mC is about 1.2 times K ⅠC .

microscopic phase field study of the antisite defect of Ni_3 Al in binary Ni-Al alloys

The temporal evolution feature of a microscopic phase field model is utilized to study the antisite defects of L1 2-Ni 3 Al;this is quite different from other physicist’ interests.There are mainly two points in brief.Firstly,antisite defects Ni Al and Al Ni ,which are caused by the deviation from the stoichiometric Ni 3 Al,coexist in the Ni 3 Al phase.The surplus Ni atom in the Ni-rich side is prone to substitute Al thus producing the antisite defect Ni Al that maintains the stability of the L1 2 structure.In other case,the surplus Al atom in the Al-rich side is accommodated by a Ni sublattice consequently giving rise to antisite defect Al Ni .The calculated equilibrium occupancy probability of Ni Al is much higher than that of Al Ni .This point is generally in line with other theoretical and experimental works.Additionally,both Ni Al and Al Ni have a strong negative correlation to time step during the disorder-order transformation.Since the initial value of Ni Al and Al Ni on each site of the matrix is right at the concentration that we set,we can observe the decrease process of Ni Al and Al Ni from the initial disordered high anti-structure state to their respective equilibrium state,i.***.to the result of the ordering process further coarsening.

The parameters of the sdg interacting boson model Hamiltonian are calculated for the 104-110Pdisotopes.The calculations utilize the microscopic procedure based on the Dyson boson mapping proposedby Yang-Liu-Qi and extended to include the g boson effects.The calculated parameters reproduce thosevalues from the phenomenological fits.The resulting spectra are compared with the experimental spectra.

A microscopic approach is employed to study the optical potential for the 7Li-nucleus interaction system without any free parameters.It is obtained by folding the microscopic optical potentials of the constituent nucleons of 7Li over their density distributions.We employ an isospin-dependent nucleon microscopic optical potential,which is based on the Skyrme nucleon-nucleon effective interaction and derived using the Green's function method,as the nucleon optical potential.The harmonic oscillator shell model is used to describe the internal wave function of 7Li and obtain the nucleon density distribution.The 7Li microscopic optical potential is used to predict the reaction cross-sections and elastic scattering angular distributions for the target range from 27Al to 208Pb and energy range below 450 MeV.Generally,the results can reproduce the measured data reasonably well.In addition,the microscopic optical potential is comparable to a global phenomenological optical potential by fitting the presently existing measured data.

microscopic Determination of Leading Terms of the Interaction Hamiltonian Between sd- and g-Parts in the sdg IBM

Starting from one of the microscopic sdg interacting boson approximations, the lead-ing terms in the interaction Hamiltonian are discussed by using numerical investigations. Com-parisons of both the calculated levels and the overlap of wave functions between the exact re-sults and the approximations are made to find out negligible part in the Hamiltonian. The re-sults show that the leading terms given in this paper may provide a way to simplify the complexcalculations.

Photodynamic therapy as salvage therapy for residual microscopic cancer after ultra-low anterior resection: A case report

BACKGROUND The rate of positive resection margins(R1) in patients with low rectal cancer is substantial. Recommended remedies such as extended resection or chemoradiotherapy have their own serious drawbacks. It has been reported that photodynamic therapy(PDT) as a remedial treatment for esophageal cancer.Colorectal cancer and esophageal cancer has many similarities,however,PDT as a salvage therapy for rectal cancer is rare.CASE SUMMARY Here,we describe a 56-year-old man who was admitted to the hospital due to a 6-mo history of hemafecia,which had been aggravated for 1 mo. Colonoscopy revealed a 3 × 4 cm ulcerated mass in the rectum 4 cm from the anus.Preoperative pathological examination showed villous adenoma,moderate-tohigh-grade dysplasia,good differentiation,and invasion of the mucosal muscle.The patient had R1 after ultra-low anterior resection,but he refused extended resection and experienced severe liver function impairment after 3 cycles of chemotherapy. Ultimately,the patient underwent PDT to remove R1. After five years of follow-up,there was no liver function impairment,recurrence,metastasis,sexual dysfunction,or abnormal defecation function.CONCLUSION This is the first case worldwide in which R1 of rectal cancer were successfully treated by PDT.
