Pacific saury(Cololabis saira)is usually sold as whole fish in wholesale markets,or in its gutted form which is easy for consumers to cook in retail *** order to assess the effect of gutting on the shelf life of Pacific saury during refrigerated storage and reveal the microbial community,fish samples grouped into(I)whole fish and(II)gutted fish were analyzed periodically for sensory,biochemical and microbiological characteristics,and high-throughput sequencing technology was used to investigate the *** showed that the sensory score for the gutted fish became unacceptable on day 8,while the whole fish score remained acceptable for 10 *** total volatile basic nitrogen(TVB-N)value of the gutted fish reached 30 mg N(100 g)^-1 on day 6,while that of the whole samples surpassed 30 mg N(100 g)^-1 on day *** thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS)value of the gutted fish got close to 5.0 mg kg^-1 on day 10,while that of the whole samples surpassed 5.0 mg kg^-1 on day *** aerobic plate colony counts(APCs)for the gutted and whole Pacific saury reached 7.0 log10 CFUg^-1 on days 6 and 10,***,biochemical and microbiological analyses revealed that shelf-lives should be 6–8 days for gutted fish and 10 days for whole *** analysis results showed that gutting partly changed the initial microbiota,but didn't alter the dominant bacteria during *** the fish were spoiled,high proportion of Pseudomonadaceae was detected in both groups.

The structure of intestinal microbiota of black rockfish Sebastes schlegelii in five early development stages were determined in high throughput sequencing with Illumina MiSeq PE300 *** relationship between intestinal microbial community and the environmental(including culture water and feed)microbiota and the abundance variation trends of core microbiota were investigated,based on which the source of some core microbiota was analyzed in this *** results show that Proteobacteria and Firmicutes are the most dominant phyla in *** the genus level,there are obvious differences between the artificial breeding fish and wild adults in the intestinal microflora *** compositions of dominant genera are similar,although the structure of intestinal microbiota gradually changes with the growth of larvae and *** core microbiota including Bacillus,Acinetobacter,Pseudomonas,Lactobacillus,Lactococcus,Glaciecola,Vibrio,Pseudoalteromonas,Acidovorax,and Aliivibrio were determined in the analysis of dominant and shared *** with the water,the effect of feed microbiota on the structure of the gut microbial community is more ***,the trends of Bacillus,Acinetobacter,Pseudomonas,Lactobacillus,Lactococcus,and Glaciecola were opposite to Vibrio and Pseudoalteromonas in the *** correlation analysis suggested that Acidovorax,Glaciecola,Pseudomonas,Lactobacillus,and Acinetobacter might transited from mainly the parents and/or came from the fertilization *** relative results may provide a theoretical reference for selecting the native probiotics,and supply the basic data for artificially regulating the intestinal microbiota with probiotic during early developmental stage of black rockfish.

Subterranean estuaries,i.e.,the mixing zone between terrestrial groundwater and recirculated seawater,host a wide range of ***,field campaigns were conducted at the mouth of the subterranean estuary at the Sanggou Bay(Shandong Province,China)over four consecutive seasons at a seepage face(0−20 cm depth).The diversity of benthic microbiome was characterized via 16S rRNA gene sequencing and metagenomics,combined with physic-chemical parameters,e.g.,organic carbon,total nitrogen and sulfate contents in *** spring,the dominant species were assigned to the phylum *** opportunistic species was assigned to Acidobacteria,Actinobacteria and *** key components were identified to be species of the genera Pseudoalteromonas,Colwellia and Sphingobium,indicating the involvement of sediment microbiota in the degradation of sedimentary organic carbon,particularly that of pelagic origin,e.g.,phytoplankton detritus and bivalve *** spring,the microbial community was statistically similar along the depth profiles and among the three sampled *** spatial distributions were obtained in the remaining *** contrast,the dominant species assemblages varied significantly among seasons,with key genera being Thioprofundum and Nitrosopumilus during summer and autumn and Thioprofundum and Ilumatobacter during *** analysis revealed a seasonal shift in benthic nitrogen and sulfur metabolism associated with these variations in microbial community ***,our findings suggested that macro elements derived from pelagic inputs,particularly detrital phytoplankton,shaped the microbial community compositions at the seepage face,resulting in significant seasonal variations,while the influence of terrestrial materials transported by groundwater on the sediment microbiota at the seepage face found to be minor.

Berberine has been shown to reduce acute liver injury although the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. Because of the anatomic connection, the liver is constantly exposed to gut-derived bacterial products and metabolites. In this study, we showed that berberine has beneficial effects on both hepatotoxicity and intestinal damage in a rat model of chronic or acute liver injury. microbiota transplantation from the rats with chronic hepatotoxicity could aggravate acute hepatotoxicity in mice treated with diethylnitrosamine(DEN). In rat models with gut homeostasis disruption induced by penicillin or dextran sulfate sodium(DSS), their fecal microbiota could also cause an enhanced hepatotoxicity of recipient mice. When treated with berberine,the DSS-induced enteric dysbacteriosis could be mitigated and their fecal bacteria were able to reduce acute hepatotoxicity in recipient mice. This study indicates that berberine could improve intestinal dysbacteriosis, which reduces the hepatotoxicity caused by pathological or pharmacological intervention. Fecal microbiota transplantation might be a useful method to directly explore homeostatic alteration in gut microbiota.

Alterations of intestinal microflora may significantly contribute to the pathogenesis of different inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. There is emerging interest on the role of selective modulation of microflora in inducing benefits in inflammatory intestinal disorders, by as probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, antibiotics, and fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT). To summarize recent evidences on microflora modulation in main intestinal inflammatory disorders, Pub Med was searched using terms microbiota, intestinal flora, probiotics, prebiotics, fecal transplantation. More than three hundred articles published up to 2015 were selected and reviewed. Randomized placebo-controlled trials and meta-analysis were firstly included, mainly for probiotics. A meta-analysis was not performed because of the heterogeneity of these studies. Most of relevant data derived from studies on probiotics, reporting some efficacy in ulcerative colitis and in pouchitis, while disappointing results are available for Crohn's disease. Probiotic supplementation may significantly reduce rates of rotavirus diarrhea. Efficacy of probiotics in NSAID enteropathy and irritable bowel syndrome is still controversial. Finally, FMT has been recently recognized as an efficacious treatment for recurrent Clostridium difficile infection. Modulation of intestinal flora represents a very interesting therapeutic target, although it still deserves some doubts and limitations. Future studies should be encouraged to provide new understanding about its therapeutical role.
