1.Objective Pegmatite hosts important resource of rare metals,e.g.,lithium(Li)and beryllium(Be).In recent years,increasingly more studies were dedicated to characterize and unravel the formation of pegmatite-type deposits,for which accurate dating of pegmatite formation and mineralization is essential.The Songpan-Ganzi orogenic belt is a major rare metal metallogenic belt in China,hosting many important pegmatite-type Li deposits,including the Lijiagou,Dangba,Jiajika,Yelonggou,Cuola,and Declalongba.Radiometric age data(mica Ar-Ar and zircon/cassiterite U-Pb)from these Li deposits are sparse,ranging from 210 to 152 Ma.However,obtaining reliable zircon U-Pb dates can be a challenge due to the strong decidualization in pegmatites.As a result,the formation and mineralization ages of these rare metal pegmatites remain controversial,which hampers the development of pegmatite-type metallogenic model for the Songpan-Ganzi orogenic belt.

Remote sensing technique plays an important role in geological prospecting in Altay because of the remote location and steep terrain with mountains. Pegmatite has important implications for metallogenic prospecting as most of rare metals occurs in it. Pegmatite information from optical and radar images was extracted, and the spatial distribution and scale of pegmatite were generalized in Azubai, Altay. Three mining targets, that is, Halon-Azubai, Kuermutu-Tuyibaguo and Zhuolute-Akuoyige, were delineated based on the analysis of pegmatite information, structure interpretation and other geological data.

Major and REE geochemistry and multi-fractal analysis of two types of bauxite(primary bauxite and accumulated bauxite) ores were studied in Pingguo bauxite orefield in western Guangxi,China.The results of geochemical data show that the accumulated bauxite has a feature of high Al_2O_3 whereas relative low Fe_2O_3 and SiO_2 contents compared to the primary bauxite.The similar chondrite-normalized rare earth element(REE) patterns illustrate that they have a cognate relationship.However,the negative Ce anomalies of primary bauxite and positive Ce anomalies of accumulated bauxite indicate that the ore-forming system changed from reducing environment to oxidation environment.The results of multi-fractal spectrum and parameters of Al_2O_3,Fe_2O_3 and SiO_2 between primary bauxite and accumulated bauxite show that the distinct multi-fractal spectrum parameters reflect the different grade distribution between accumulated and primary bauxite ores.metallogenic process from primary bauxite to accumulated bauxite is accompanied by the loss of diffluent elements(e.g.,Si and S) and enrichment of stable elements(e.g.,Al and Fe) in the surface environment.Among the rest,the migration mechanism of iron during the evolutionary process from primary ore to accumulated ore can be described as combined leaching and chemical weathering action with participation of sulfur.

High-resolution 3D crustal S-wave velocity structure of the MiddleLower Yangtze River metallogenic Belt and implications for its deep geodynamic setting

The Middle-Lower Yangtze River metallogenic Belt(MLYMB) is an important mineral resource region in China.High-resolution crustal models can provide crucial constraints to understand the ore-forming processes and geodynamic setting in this region. Using ambient seismic noise from 107 permanent and 82 portable stations in the MLYMB and the adjacent area,we present a new high-resolution 3D S-wave velocity model of this region. We first extract 5–50 s Rayleigh wave phase velocity dispersion data by calculating ambient noise cross-correlation functions(CFs) and then use the surface wave direct inversion method to invert the mixed path travel times for the 3D S-wave velocity structure. Checkerboard tests show that the horizontal resolution of the 3D S-wave velocity model is approximately 0.5°–1.0° and that the vertical resolution decreases with increasing noise and depth. Our high-resolution 3D S-wave velocity model reveals:(1) AV-shaped high-velocity zone(HVZ) is located in the lower crust and the uppermost mantle in the study region. The western branch of the HVZ passes through the Jianghan Basin,the Qinling-Dabie orogenic belt and the Nanxiang Basin. The eastern branch, which almost completely covers the main body of the MLYMB, is located near the Tanlu Fault. The low-velocity anomalies between the western and eastern branches are located in the area of the Qinling-Dabie orogenic belt.(2) High-velocity uplifts(HVUs) are common in the crust of the MLYMB,especially in the areas near the Tanlu Fault, the Changjiang Fault and the Yangxin-Changzhou Fault. The intensities of the HVUs gradually weaken from west to east. The V-shaped HVZ in the lower crust and uppermost mantle and the HVUs in the middle and lower crust likely represent cooled mantle intrusive rocks. During the Yanshanian period, fault systems formed in the MLYMB due to the convergence between the South China Plate and the North China Plate, the multiple-direction drifting of the PaleoPacific Plate and its subduction beneath the Eurasian Plate. Evaluating the fractionation of ion-adsorption rare earths for in-situ leaching and metallogenic mechanism

The fractionation of ion adsorption rare earths(IAREs) along the depth in a shaft of a deposit at Dajishan,Jiangxi, China was comparatively evaluated using the partition values(PVs) and relative fractionation values(RFVs) of the leached rare earths(REs). It is found that both PVs and RFVs can objectively reflect the migration and fractionation of REs, but RE content and abrasion pH could not. However, the RFVs can provide more information to quantitatively evaluating the migration and fractionation characteristics of REs along the selected direction and region than PVs could, which is of significance for designing the optimal procedures of in-situ leaching based on the determined flow direction of injecting solution. It is demonstrated that the migration of Ce, Pr, and Nd along the depth direction is inert, and that of REs post Sm and Y is active. Meanwhile, the migration of La shows region characteristics which is active in the upper and inert in lower region. More interesting, the dependence of RFVs on atomic number of REs displays a tetrad group variation trend. However, the fractionation of REs among clay minerals with different particle sizes is not evident, especially for the clay in the bottom region. These results indicate that the migration and fractionation of REs not only are dominated by the adsorption of their hydrated ions, but also rely on their hydrolysis tendency, which provide information for understanding the metallogenic mechanism of IAREs.

The Tongling ore district is one of the most economically important ore areas in the Middle–Lower Yangtze River metallogenic Belt, eastern China. It contains hundreds of polymetallic copper–gold deposits and occurrences. Those deposits are mainly clustered(from west to east) within the Tongguanshan, Shizishan, Xinqiao, Fenghuangshan, and Shatanjiao orefields. Until recently, the majority of these deposits were thought to be skarn-or porphyry–skarn-type deposits; however there have been recent discoveries of numerous vein-type Au, Ag, and Pb-Zn deposits that do not fall into either of these categories. This indicates that there is some uncertainty over this classification. Here, we present the results of several systematic geological studies of representative deposits in the Tongling ore district. From investigation of the ore-controlling structures, lithology of the host rock, mineral assemblages, and the characteristics of the mineralization and alteration within these deposits, three genetic types of deposits(skarn-, porphyry-, and vein-type deposits) have been identified. The spatial and temporal relationships between the orebodies and Yanshanian intrusions combined with the sources of the ore-forming fluids and metals, as well as the geodynamic setting of this ore district, indicate that all three deposit types are genetically related each other and constitute a magmatic–hydrothermal system. This study outlines a model that relates the polymetallic copper–gold porphyry-, skarn-, and vein-type deposits within the Tongling ore district. This model provides a theoretical basis to guide exploration for deep-seated and concealed porphyry-type Cu(–Mo, –Au) deposits as well as shallow vein-type Au, Ag, and Pb–Zn deposits in this area and elsewhere.

The Zheboshan gold deposit, which is located in the "Gold Triangle" area on the borders of Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces, is a very complicated micro_fine disseminated gold deposit. Considering the ICP_MS measurements and Rb and Sr isotope data, it is suggested that the ore_forming materials may have come from the quartz_amphibole porphyrite dykes. It is also suggested that the age of ore deposit is generally consistent with the age of formation of the quartz_amphibole porphyrite. It is further deduced that the deposit is a magmatic hydrothermal ore deposit.

Geological characteristics,metallogenic background,and genesis of the Tongyu VHMS copper deposit in the west part of the North Qinling,Shaanxi Province

The Tongyu volcanic-hosted massive sulfide(VHMS) copper deposit is located in the west part of the North Qinling(NQL),Shaanxi Province.Here we report geological features and trace elemental characteristics of ores,mineralized rocks,and volcanic host rocks of this deposit.We also conducted in situ zircon U-Pb and Lu-Hf LA-ICP-MS dating and lithogeochemical study of the Meigou granodiorite,which is intruded in the south of the Tongyu mining district.It is inferred that the volcanic host rocks of the Tongyu Cu deposit belong to calc-alkaline island arc volcanic rocks,and the volcanic host rocks and the ore-forming materials share common material sources.During subduction of the Paleo-Qinling oceanic slab at around 472 Ma,high oxygen-fugacity aqueous fluid released by dehydration reaction of the subducting slab rose into the mantle wedge,leached Cu and other metal elements,and triggered partial melting of the mantle wedge.Associated with the ore-forming materials,the arc calc-alkaline magmas erupted and formed the Tongyu VHMS deposit.The weighted average zircon U-Pb age of the Meigou granodiorite is 439.3±3 Ma,suggesting its genesis is associated with the subduction event of the Paleo-Qinling oceanic plate around 440 Ma.In terms of the granitoid's geochemical characteristics,the Mg#,Ni,and Cr contents are high.REE show strongly fractionated patterns with unobvious Eu anomalies.Sr contents are high while Y contents are low,resulting in high Sr/Y ratios.Two-stage zircon Hf model ages mostly range between 908 and 723 Ma,with εHf(t)>0.Therefore,we classify Meigou granodiorite as island arc granite with adakitic geochemical features.It was generated by interaction between mantle wedge and melt produced by partial melting of the subducted basaltic slab of the Paleo-Qinling Ocean.The Tongyu VHMS deposit was formed in the island arc tectonic setting during Ordovician-Silurian between 439.3±3 Ma and 472±11 Ma.The volcanic exhalation-sedimentation,which was contemporaneous with the submarine volcanics,produced the primary mine

In recent years, with its application and development in the geological research fields,the ESR dating technique has become a new method to study the age of gold deposits.Some researchers at home and abroad have used this method to study some younger uranium deposits, and got ore-forming ages similar to those acquired from U-Pb dating method. In this note, we chose some quartz paragenous with gold to study the age of three typical gold deposits in Ailaoshan gold belt by ESR method. Finally, we will discuss the genesis of the deposits.

SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating of the intrusives in the Tongling metallogenic cluster and its dynamic setting

This paper selected five typical Mesozoic intrusives from the Tongling metallogenic cluster (Xiaotongguanshan, Fenghuangshan, Xinqiao, Dongguashan, and Shatanjiao plutons), and made a systemic SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating for the five plutons, which produced an age range of 151.8±2.6- 142.8±1.8 Ma. This work put an accurate constraint on the formation age of the intrusives in the Tongling metallogenic cluster. These age data indicate that magmatic activity reached a peak during Late Jurassic. The intrusive sequence of magma is generally from quartz monzonite (porphyry) through monzonite to granodiorite to quartz monzodiorite to pyroxene monzodiorite to gabbro-diabase. The intrusives of different lithology differed in crystallization age, probably implying the intrusives in the Tongling area underwent an evolutional process of magma, which was closely related to geodynamical setting in the depths of the area. A dynamic model was presented for the origin of the igneous rocks in the study area as follows. The assembly between the Yangtze craton and the North China craton fini- shed at the end of T3, and then the stage of another compressional orogeny began in the Tongling area, i.e., Pacific dynamic system. Along with the subduction of the Izanagi plate underneath the Eurasian plate at J2-J3, NW-trending compression toward the East China continent was produced, and compres- sional deformation also took place, forming NE-trending fold and resulting in thickening of the crust in the Tongling area. High-density eclogite-facies rocks were produced in the low part of the crust, re- sulting in the delamination of mantle lithosphere and lower crust, and upwelling of materials in as- thenosphere. Decompression melting produced basaltic magma, and the materials in lower crust were heated by the underplating of the basaltic magma. Thus, melting of lower crust yielded granitic magma, which intruded along deep and large faults through various geological processes (J3-K1).
