Cathodic corrosion as a facile and universal method for the preparation of supported metal single atoms

Top-down strategy has been generally adopted for preparation of metal single atom catalysts(SACs)due to the simplified synthetic process,metal economics,and scalability ***,we propose a general top-down route to convert metal nanoparticles into uniformly dispersed metal single atoms in mild electrochemical environment via a facile cathodic corrosion *** the synthetic process,Pt nanoparticles precursors are transformed into migrating Pt single atoms(Pt1)driven by a high negative potential;and subsequently these mobile Pt atoms are trapped and stabilized by N coordination sites of N-doped carbon paper(NCP).The as-prepared Pt1/NCP electrodes exhibit a superior catalytic activity toward hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)with a low overpotential of 0.022 V at 10 mA/cm^(2)and a low Tafel slope of 28.5 mV/dec as well as a long-term ***,the proposed electrochemical atomic migration strategy shows a promising generality for fabricating other metal single atoms(e.g.,Pd,Ir,Cu),which may open a new avenue for metallic SACs preparation.

Atomically dispersed metals on N-doped carbon supports(M-N_(xCs)) have great potential applications in various ***,a precise understanding of the definitive relationship between the configuration of metal single atoms and the dielectric loss properties of M-N_(xCs) at the atomic-level is still ***,we report a general approach to synthesize a series of three-dimensional(3D)honeycomb-like M-N_xC(M=Mn,Fe,Co,Cu,or Ni) containing metal single *** results indicate that 3D M-N_(xCs) exhibit a greatly enhanced dielectric loss compared with that of the NC *** calculations demonstrate that the density of states of the d orbitals near the Fermi level is significantly increased and additional electrical dipoles are induced due to the destruction of the symmetry of the local microstructure,which enhances conductive loss and dipolar polarization loss of 3D M-N_(xCs),***,these 3D M-N_(xCs) exhibit excellent electromagnetic wave absorption properties,outperforming the most commonly reported *** study systematically explains the mechanism of dielectric loss at the atomic level for the first time and is of significance to the rational design of high-efficiency electromagnetic wave absorbing materials containing metal single atoms.

The large-scale synthesis of platinum-free electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)remains a grand *** report the large-scale production of stable and active ORR electrocatalysts based on iron,an earth-abundant element.A core–shell zeolitic imidazolate framework–tannic acid coordination polymer composite(ZIF-8@K-TA)was utilized as the catalyst precursor,which was transformed into iron atoms dispersed in hollow porous nitrogen-doped carbon capsules(H-Fe-N_(x)-C)through ion exchange and pyrolysis.H-Fe-N_(x)-C fea-tures site-isolated single-atom iron centers coordinated to nitrogen in graphitic layers,high levels of nitrogen doping,and high permeability to incoming *** from these characteristics,H-Fe-N_(x)-C demonstrated efficient electrocatalytic activity(E_(1/2)=0.92 V,***)and stability towards the ORR in both alkaline and acidic *** ORR performance,it surpassed the majority of recently reported Fe-N-C catalysts and the standard Pt/C *** addition,H-Fe-N_(x)-C showed outstanding tolerance to methanol.
