Objective:Serum metal elements are involved in the pathophysiological processes of traumatic brain injury (TBI). This study was aimed at investigating the serum levels of metal elements in patients with acute TBI. The correlation between serum metal element levels and the severity of acute TBI was ***:Sixty-eight consecutive patients with acute TBI were enrolled. The patients were classified into three groups for TBI severity according to the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS): mild (n=38), moderate (n=8), and severe (n=22). Serum copper, iron, zinc, calcium, and magnesium levels were ***:Serum copper levels were significantly higher in normal controls than in patients with TBI. Compared to the normal controls, serum iron and zinc levels were significantly lower in patients with TBI. Compared to the controls and patients with mild TBI, serum magnesium levels were significantly lower in the moderate and severe TBI groups. The severity of TBI was positively correlated with serum magnesium and zinc levels. Serum iron and magnesium levels were independent protective factors against ***:Serum metal element levels are closely associated with the severity of acute TBI. Measurement of serum metal element levels may provide an alternative approach for evaluating the severity of acute TBI.

Chemical composition and source apportionment of the ambient PM_(2.5)in Hangzhou,China

To identify and apportion the sources of the ambient PM2.5 in the urban area of Hangzhou, China, PM2.s samples were collected at three sites in the city from April 2004 to March 2005. Water-soluble ions, metal elements, and total carbon （TC） in PM2.s samples were analyzed. The results indicated that the 24-h mean concentrations of PM2.5 ranged from 17.1 to 267.0 μg/m^3, with an annual average value of 108.2 μg/m^3. Moreover, the seasonal mean values for PM2.5 in spring, summer, autumn, and winter were 116, 73.1, 114.2, and 136.0μg/m^3, respectively. According to the Chinese ambient quality standard, at least 70% of the monitoring data exceeded the limit value. The total contribution of water-soluble ions, including F^-, CI^-, NO3^-, SO4^2- , NH4^＋, K^＋, and Na^＋, to PM2.5 mass varied from 32.3% to 36.7%. SO4^2- , NO3^-, and NH4^＋ were the main constituents of the ions, with contributions to PM2.5 varying from 14.1% to 14.7%, 6.0% to 7.89;, and 6.4% to 7.7%, respectively. In addition, the annual mean mass fraction of TC in PM2.5 was 27.8%. The annual average total contribution of the group of elements of Zn, Pb, Cu, Mn, Cr, Ni, Se, Mo, Cd, Sb, and Ag to the aerosol was in the range of 1.7-2.0%. Furthermore, positive matrix factorization was applied to analyze the PM2.5 data collected from the central area, and five factors were identified. The factor contributions to PM2.5 mass were 12.8%, 31.9%, 10.1%, 17.2%, and 27.9%, respectively. Iron/steel manufacturing and secondary aerosol were the main sources for the fine particles. These findings may have significance for controlling the atmospheric contamination in the city.

Ammonia volatilization and the distribution of Cu and Zn were investigated in two types of soil treated with coated and uncoated *** rate of ammonia volatilization in two weeks after fertilizing with coated urea was 8% in soil 1 （soil derived from river alluvial deposits in Dongting Lake Plain） and 5.15% in soil 2 （red soil derived from quaternary red clay）,about half the rates observed when fertilizing with common urea,implying that the hydrolysis speed of the coated urea was lower than for common urea,and that the coated urea can increase nitrogen use *** for the availability of Cu and Zn,their concentrations decreased in the first week after fertilization,and then increased,which was contrary to the effect of treatment on soil *** example,when the pH was 7.99,there was 0.79mg/kg exchangeable Cu and 0.85mg/kg exchangeable Zn in the soil derived from river alluvial deposits in Dongting Lake ***,the concentrations of exchangeable Cu and Zn were generally lower for the common urea treatments than those with the coated urea because the peak pH for the common urea treatment was *** concentrations of these elements correlated well with pH in the range 4–8 in second order polynomial fits.

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy（LIBS）,an emerging technique for materials quantitative analysis, is rapidly maturing and is becoming increasingly accepted as an important tool for the metal detection. In this paper, a LIBS system with a 10 Hz Q-switched Nd: YAG ns laser at 1064 nm was employed to research the metal element Cr in plant leaves. Refer to NIST atomic database, the metal element Cr is identified in the soaked sample. According to statistical methods and spectrum analysis software, the calibration curve of the metal element Cr was obtained in our laboratory. The correlation coefficient of calibration curve is 0.97394 for Cr 425.43 nm and 0.94005 for Cr 427.48 nm respectively. The experimental results show LIBS technique is a fast and effective tool for detecting and analyzing the relative intensity of the metal elements and provides the basis of the rapid and continuous detection for plant metal.
