Effect of Yttrium and Cerium Addition on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AM50 Magnesium Alloy

To develop magnesium alloy with low cost, high strength and excellent elevated temperature properties, effect of Y and Ce addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of AM50 magnesium alloy was studied. Result showed that addition of small amount of Y and Ce to AM50 alloys resulted in refinement of microstructure. Owing to the improvement of microstructure, the mechanical properties of alloys at both ambient and elevated temperature were increased. AM50 alloy containing 0.6 % Ce-0.3 % Y （mass fraction） had good refinement effect and relatively ideal mechanical properties.

The transport properties were studied for rare earth manganese oxide La_(0.67)Ca_(0.33)Mn_(1-x)Fe_xO_3 (x=0～0.3) systems. It is found that with increasing Fe^(3+)-doping content x, the resistance increases and the insulator-metal transition temperature (T_(IM)) shifts to lower temperature. If the doping content is small, the transport properties manifest metallic characteristics in the temperature range of TT_(IM). Such a behavior may be attributed to the Fe^(3+)-doping and possible Mn ions scattering to electrons. The Fe^(3+) doping may lead to the formation of Fe^(3+)-O^(2-)-Mn^(4+) channels, which could terminate the double exchange Mn^(3+)-O^(2-)-Mn^(4+) channels. The antiferromagnetic clusters of Fe ions may induce the Mn ions to scetter to the electrons.

NiO buffer layers were formed on a tape of Ni for making YBCO coated conductor by surface-oxidation epitaxy （SOE） process. Different oxidizing conditions such as temperature and duration were studied for Ni tapes. It is found that the texture of NiO could be affected directly by the orientation and surface of substrate. X-ray diffraction （XRD） 2-2θ scan, φ-scan, and pole figure were employed to characterize the in-plane alignment and cube texture. X-ray φ-scan shows that NiO film is formed on Ni tape with high cube texture and a typical value at the full width at half maximum （FWHM） is ≤ 7.5°. Scanning electron microscopy was used to study the surface morphology of NiO films. No crack is found and the films appear dense. Such technique is simple and of low cost with perfect reproducibility, promising for developing long tapes.

Crack of conductive component is one of the biggest threats to daily production. In order to detect the crack on conductive component,the pulsed eddy current thermography models were built according to different materials with the cracks based on finite element method(FEM) simulation. The influence of the induction heating temperature distribution with the different defect depths were simulated for the carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) materials and general metal materials. The grey value of image sequence was extracted to analyze its relationship with the depth of crack. Simulative and experimental results show that in the carbon fiber reinforced composite materials,the bigger depth of the crack is,the larger temperature rise of the crack during the heating phase is; and the bigger depth of the crack is,the faster the cooling rate of the crack during the cooling phase is. In general metal materials,the smaller depth of the crack is,the lager temperature rise of the crack during the heating phase is; and the smaller depth of the crack is,the faster the cooling rate of crack during the cooling phase is.

metal additive manufacturing is an important branch of AM, which provides an effective method for the innovative manufacturing of metal parts. Here, flow chart and main techniques of metal additive manufacturing are firstly described according to the used material types. Many application examples of metal additive manufacturing are then listed based on application value. The summary is finally given to point development direction of metal additive manufacturing in the future. Additive manufacturing, which is an effective supplement to traditional methods, will play an important role in intelligent and digital manufacturing.
