The alternate-direction implicit finite difference beam propagation method （FD-BPM） is used to analyze the two-dimensional （2D） symmetrical multimode interference （MMI） couplers. The positions of the images at the output plane and the length of multimode waveguide are accurately determined numerically. In order to reduce calculation time, the parallel processing of the arithmetic is implemented by the message passing interface and the simulation is accomplished by eight personal computers.

Implementing video applications on emerging multi-core processors is a promising technique for personal, real-time multi-media applications. However, when porting the legacy parallel video encoders developed for clusters to shared-memory multi-cores, the existing parallel algorithms result in workload imbalances on different cores and communication inefficiencies. This paper describes a strip-wise parallel scheme to balance workloads and a hybrid communication mechanism to reduce communication overhead. The implementation of the H.264 parallel encoder on an eight CPU Intel Xeon system achieves 5x to 6x speed-up over a single thread encoder and achieves a 29% performance improvement over the commonly used master-slave schemes on clusters. The paper also gives further analysis on scalability, parallel efficiency, workload balance, and communication overhead as the number of cores varies.

Drug-target interactions(DTIs) prediction plays an important role in the process of drug *** computational methods treat it as a binary prediction problem, determining whether there are connections between drugs and targets while ignoring relational types information. Considering the positive or negative effects of DTIs will facilitate the study on comprehensive mechanisms of multiple drugs on a common target, in this work, we model DTIs on signed heterogeneous networks, through categorizing interaction patterns of DTIs and additionally extracting interactions within drug pairs and target protein pairs. We propose signed heterogeneous graph neural networks(SHGNNs), further put forward an end-to-end framework for signed DTIs prediction, called SHGNN-DTI,which not only adapts to signed bipartite networks, but also could naturally incorporate auxiliary information from drug-drug interactions(DDIs) and protein-protein interactions(PPIs). For the framework, we solve the message passing and aggregation problem on signed DTI networks, and consider different training modes on the whole networks consisting of DTIs, DDIs and PPIs. Experiments are conducted on two datasets extracted from Drug Bank and related databases, under different settings of initial inputs, embedding dimensions and training modes. The prediction results show excellent performance in terms of metric indicators, and the feasibility is further verified by the case study with two drugs on breast cancer.

Towards Order-Preserving and Zero-Copy Communication on Shared Memory for Large Scale Simulation

Parallel simulation generally needs efficient, reliable and order-preserving communication. In this article, a zero-copy, reliable and order-preserving intra-node message passing approach named Ze ROshm is proposed. This mechanism partitions shared memory into segments assigned to processes for receiving *** segment consists of two levels of index L1 and L2 that recordes the order of messages in the host segment,and the processes also read from and write to the segments directly according to the indexes, thereby eliminating allocating and copying buffers. As experimental results show, Ze ROshm exhibits nearly equivalent performance to message passing interface(MPI) for small message and superior performance for large message. Specifically, Ze ROshm costs less time by 43%, 40% and 55% respectively in pure communication, communication with contention and real PHOLD simulation within a single node. Additionally, in hybrid environment, the combination of Ze ROshm and MPI also shorten the execution time of PHOLD simulation by about 42% compared to pure MPI.

The development of the object-oriented paradigm has suffered from the lackof any generally accepted formal foundations for its semantic definition. Toaddress this issue, we propose the development of the logic-based semantics ofthe object-oriented paradigm. By combining the logic- with the object-orientedparadigm of computing first, this paper discusses formally the semantics of aquite purely object-oriented logic paradigm in terms of proof theory modeltheory and Aspoint theory from the viewpoint of logic. The operational anddeclarative semantics is given. And then the correspondence between soundnessand completeness has been discussed formally.
