Relationship between coupler curve properties of a 4-bar linkage and its dimensional types

Three types of 4-bar linkages can trace the same coupler curve according to the cognate mechanism law. Based on the investigation of the relationship between dimensions of a linkage and the harmonic component characteristic parameters of the coupler curve of the linkage, it was found that six types of linkages are related to the same coupler curve, and they belong to two groups of cognate mechanisms, in which the coupler curves have the same shape and are symmetric. The relationships among the dimensional types of these six mechanisms are presented. The corresponding examples have also proved these conclusions. This work enriches the cognate mechanism law, and can result in more candidate mechanisms for mechanism dimensional synthesis.

FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE SPLINE MODEL METHOD OF KED ANALYSIS IN A PLANAR FLEXIBLE LINKAGE

This paper relates to the deep research on the Splinc Model Method of KED analysis. With the use of cubic B-splinc function as a link’s transverse deflection interpolation function, the principle of virtual displacement is presented as a basic theory for the general formulation of the equations of motion, and thus abandoned the kinematic assumption and the instantaneous structure assumption which arc used in the Spline Model Method. In thc same time, the nonlinear terms sue as coupling terms between thc rigid body motion and elastic deformation arc included. New member’s spline models are established. Mass matrix, Coriolis mass matrix, normal and tangential mass matrix, linear stiffness matrix, nonlinear stiffness matrix and rotation matrix arc derived. The kinematic differential equations of a member and system are deduced in the end. The Newmark direct integration method is used as the solution scheme of the kinematic differential equations to get the periodic response.

SMOOTHING AND CURVE-FITTING OF THE MEASURED DATA OF PLANE CAM PROFILE

The necessary continuity of the second order derivative or curvature of the cam profile has been analyzed. In order to guarantee the smoothness of the cam radius data, a proper method with which it could be possible to revise directly the first and the second order difference coefficients as well as the slope has been proposed. This method, applicable to different cam mechanisms by using a unified formula of correction, possesses the characteristics of simplicity, intuition and precision. Meanwhile, a cubic spline function for fitting the cam profile has also been described.
