mass production of 2D materials by intermediate-assisted grinding exfoliation

The scalable and high-efficiency production of 2D materials is a prerequisite to their commercial ***, only graphene and graphene oxide can be produced on a ton scale, and the inability to produce other 2D materials on such a large scale hinders their technological applications. Here we report a grinding exfoliation method that uses micro-particles as force intermediates to resolve applied compressive forces into a multitude of small shear forces, inducing the highly efficient exfoliation of layer materials. The method, referred to as intermediate-assisted grinding exfoliation(iMAGE), can be used for the large-scale production of many 2D materials. As an example, we have exfoliated bulk h-BN into 2D h-BN with large flake sizes, high quality and structural integrity, with a high exfoliation yield of 67%, a high production rate of 0.3 g hand a low energy consumption of 3.01 × 10~6 J g. The production rate and energy consumption are one to two orders of magnitude better than previous results. Besides h-BN, this i MAGE technology has been used to exfoliate various layer materials such as graphite, black phosphorus, transition metal dichalcogenides, and metal oxides, proving its universality. Molybdenite concentrate, a natural low-cost and abundant mineral, was used as a demo for the large-scale exfoliation production of 2D MoSflakes. Our work indicates the huge potential of the i MAGE method to produce large amounts of various 2D materials, which paves the way for their commercial application.

Graphene is considered a promising material for industrial application based on the intensive laboratoryscale research in the fields of physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, and biology over the last decade. Many companies have thus started to pursue graphene materials on a scale of tons(for the flake material) or hundreds of thousands of square meters(for the film material) for industrial applications. Though the graphene industry is still in its early stages, very significant progress in mass production and certain industrial applications has become obvious. In this report, we aim to give a brief review of the mass production of graphene materials for some industrial applications and summarize some features or challenges for graphene in the marketplace.

Although zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs)have bright prospects in wide fields like gas storage/separation,catalysis and medicine,etc.,their large-scale applications are bottlenecked by the absence of their low-cost commercial production ***,we report an uncon ventional method suitable for environmentally friendly and low-cost mass-production of *** this method,taking the synthesis of ZIF-8 as an example,ZnO was used instead of Zn(NO_(3))_(2) in traditional solvent synthesis methods and CO_(2) was introduced to dissolve ZnO in aqueous solution of 2-methylimidazole(HMeim)and form water soluble salt([ZnMeim]^(+)[MeimCOO]^(-))at room ***,by removing CO_(2) through heating or vacuuming,Meim-ions are produced and instantaneously assemble with[ZnMeim]^(+)s to generate ZIF-8 without any by *** to the absence of strong acid anions(such as NO^(-)_(3) and Cl^(-) et al.)in solution,the washing of filter cake required in the conventional approaches could be omitted and the filtrate containing only water and HMeim could be reused *** method is really green as no waste gas or liquid generates because CO_(2) and water could be recycled *** overcomes almost all bottlenecks occurred in commercial production of ZIF-8 when using traditional methods.A pilot plant was established for mass-production of ZIF-8 and hundreds kilograms of ZIF-8 was produced,which indicates that the new method is not only environmentally friendly but also low cost and commercial *** is expected that the new method would open an avenue for commercial applications of ZIFs.

Direct synthesis of graphene on nonmetallic substrates via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has become a frontier research realm targeting transfer-free applications of CVD ***,the stable mass production of graphene with a favorable growth rate and quality remains a grand ***,graphene glass fiber fabric (GGFF) was successfully developed through the controllable growth of graphene on non-catalytic glass fiber fabric,employing a synergistic binary-precursor CVD strategy to alleviate the dilemma between growth rate and *** binary precursors consisted of acetylene and acetone,where acetylene with high decomposition efficiency fed rapid graphene growth while oxygencontaining acetone was adopted for improving the layer uniformity and ***,the bifurcating introducing-confluent premixing (BI-CP) system was self-built for the controllable introduction of gas and liquid precursors,enabling the stable production of *** features solar absorption and infrared emission properties,based on which the self-adaptive dual-mode thermal management film was *** film can automatically switch between heating and cooling modes by spontaneously perceiving the temperature,achieving excellent thermal management performances with heating and cooling power of~501.2 and~108.6 W m-2,*** findings unlock a new strategy for the large-scale batch production of graphene materials and inspire advanced possibilities for further applications.

Entomopathogenic nematode is an important class of biological insecticides,which demonstrate some unique advantages and good effect on the control of hidden *** on the triangular flask culture of the Entomopathogenic nematodes,this research uses a stainless culture box,which is designed and manufactured by ourselves,to carry out solid culturing of nematodes,in order to achieve the mass production of entomopathogenic *** show that the best culturing capacity is 1000g / box,and the best culturing time is 18d. Nematode culture efficiency is 12.5 times higher than the triangular flask,with the nematode infection rates *** this method,not only the culturing amount of nematodes is increased,but also the labor cost is saved,which will help promote the use of entomopathogenic nematodes.

The outputs or products of an economy can be divided into services products ana gooas products （due to manufacturing, construction, agriculture and mining）. To date, the services and goods products have, for the most part, been separately mass produced. However, in contrast to the first and second industrial revolutions which respectively focused on the development and the mass production of goods, the next - or third - industrial revolution is focused on the integration of services and/or goods; it is beginning in this second decade of the 21st Century. The Third Industrial Revolution （TIR） is based on the confluence of three major technological enablers （i.e., big data analytics, adaptive services and digital manufacturing）; they underpin the integration or mass customization of services and/or goods. As detailed in an earlier paper, we regard mass customization as the simultaneous and real-time management of supply and demand chains, based on a taxonomy that can be defined in terms of its underpinning component and management foci. The benefits of real-time mass customization cannot be over-stated as goods and services become indistinguishable and are co-produced - as ＂servgoods＂ - in real-time, resulting in an overwhelming economic advantage to the industrialized countries where the consuming customers are at the same time the co-producing producers.

Gram-scale synthesis of nanotherapeutic agents for CT/Tl-weighted MRI bimodal imaging guided photothermal therapy

Theranostic nanomedicine, which uses both imaging and therapeutic components for simultaneous disease diagnosis and treatment, is expected to improve patient treatment safety and outcomes by offering a more personalized approach to medicine. However, the poor reproducibilities of nanomedicines synthesized for optimized bioavailability and their potential toxicity are impeding clinical development. Moreover, milligram-scale synthetic methods are often inconsistent when transferred to mass production. To address these challenges, a facile, room temperature, aqueous phase synthesis of nanotheranostic agents using clinically validated mesoporous silica and naturally derived polydopamine has been developed. Since the synthetic procedure is simple and robust, and requires only simple mixing under ambient conditions, excellent batch-to-batch consistency has been achieved. As a result, this process can be easily scaled-up to produce gram-scale batches with physicochemical parameters similar to those of materials synthesized in smaller batches. The resulting nanotheranostic agents exhibit efficient X-ray tomography and T1-weighted magnetic resonance image contrast enhancing abilities due to their chemically ligated, benign Bi3+ and Fe3+ ions. Furthermore, the inclusion of a polydopamine shell makes the nanoparticle surface easy to functionalize and renders these materials highly efficient as photothermal agents. These nanotheranostic agents are suitable for mass production and for potential applications in multimodal imaging-guided therapy in clinical settings.

Two-dimensional(2D)carbon nanomaterials with hierarchical porous structure and heteroatoms doping are highly desirable in the fields of energy storage because of their rich active surface and open ion diffusion ***,the scalable preparation of carbon materials simultaneously possessing ultrathin 2D feature and hierarchical pores remains a considerable ***,a facile one-step method to massively fabricate 2D porous chitin nanosheets(coded as PCNs)via a phytic acid assisted top-down exfoliation of bulk chitin under hydrothermal treatment was ***,2D carbon nanosheets with extra-thin thickness(3.6 nm),well-defined hierarchical porosity,high specific surface area(855 m2·g^-1),as well as abundant self-doped heteroatoms(N,O,P)were fabricated by carbonizing the PCNs,and was named as *** as-obtained HPCNs demonstrated remarkable electrochemical performance as electrode material for *** symmetric supercapacitors(SSCs)based on HPCNs exhibited a high specific capacitance of 79 F·g^-1(316 F·g^-1 for single electrode)in 6 M KOH aqueous electrolyte solution,as well as a remarkable energy density of 23.8 W·h·kg^-1 by using 1 M Li2SO4 as *** is also demonstrated that HPCNs/PCNs hybrid dispersions can be used as inks to fabricate conductive films and energy devices with high strength and superior *** work paves a new avenue for the economical and large-scale synthesis of 2D hierarchically porous carbon materials for energy storage related applications.
