Clinical observation of tuina manipulations for tic disorders in kids

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of tuina manipulations in treating different types of tic disorders(TD).Methods:Eligible TD patients were classified into three types,transient tic disorders(TTD),chronic multiple tic disorders(CMTD)and Tourette syndrome(TS),according to their disease duration and *** three types of children were treated with the same tuina *** in the Yale global tic severity scale(YGTSS)score,effective rate for tic,and cervical spine imaging examination results(including asymmetry of the lateral atlanto-dental interval,broadened anterior atlanto-dental interval,C2 spinous process deviation,occipito-atlanto-axial flexion/extension instability)were observed after 1-month and 3-month treatments ***:The YGTSS score changed significantly after 1-month and 3-month treatments compared with that before treatment(both P<0.01);the effective rate for TD was 46.6%and 86.7%respectively after 1-month and 3-month treatments;there were significant differences comparing the effective rate for tic between different types of TD after 1-month and 3-month treatments(all P<0.05);comparing the effective rate for tic after 1-month treatment with that after 3-month treatment for the same type,the intra-group differences were statistically significant[TTD group(P<0.01),CMTD group(P<0.01),TS group(P<0.05)];the abnormal parameter rates in neck imaging examination after 3-month treatment were significantly different from those before treatment(all P<0.01).Conclusion:Tuina manipulation is effective for TTD,CMTD and *** can correct the abnormal alterations of patients'cervical vertebrae,and its efficacy for TTD is most significant.

Flow cytometric investigation on degradation of macro-DNA by common laboratory manipulations

The degree and characteristics of physical degradation of macro-DNA molecules by common laboratory manipulations are reported. With linearized lambda-phage viral DNA as the model DNA, fragmentation of macro-DNA by various indispensable laboratory manipulations were investigated using a high sensitivity flow cytometric setup. Investigated manipulations included pipetting, vortexing, rocking, freeze-thawing, ultrasonication and ultrafiltration. “Exhaustive counting” of the intact lambda DNA molecules following such manipulations enabled a quantitative assessment of the resulting fragmentation, which also revealed the type of degradation reflected in the fragmentation patterns. The use of high sensitivity flow cytometry was especially suited to investigate the degradation of dilute DNA solutions that may not be suitable for analysis using traditional methods. Notable findings of this study included: the boarderline-size of DNA chains in terms of susceptibility to shear stresses by such manipulations;discernable instability of nicked DNAs;shattering-fragmentation of DNAs by freeze-thawing or ultrasonication;effectiveness of some protection media;marked “self-protection effect” of concentrated DNA solutions. These findings support and refine our traditional knowledge on how to maintain the physical integrity of macro-DNA molecules against inevitable laboratory manipulations.

Interior-Point Methods Applied to the Predispatch Problem of a Hydroelectric System with Scheduled Line manipulations

Transmission line manipulations in a power system are necessary for the execution of preventative or corrective main- tenance in a network, thus ensuring the stability of the system. In this study, primal-dual interior-point methods are used to minimize costs and losses in the generation and transmission of the predispatch active power flow in a hydroelectric system with previously scheduled line manipulations for preventative maintenance, over a period of twenty-four hours. The matrix structure of this problem and the modification that it imposes on the system is also broached in this study. From the computational standpoint, the effort required to solve a problem with or without line manipulations is similar, and the reasons for this are also discussed in this study. Computational results sustain our findings.

Fabrication and manipulation of nanosized graphene homojunction with atomically-controlled boundaries

Controlling the atomic configurations of structural defects in graphene nanostructures is crucial for achieving desired ***,we report the controlled fabrication of high-quality single-crystal and bicrystal graphene nanoislands(GNI)through a unique top-down etching and post-annealing procedure on a graphite ***-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy(STM)combined with density functional theory calculations reveal that most of grain boundaries(GBs)formed on the bicrystal GNIs are 5-7-5-7 *** nanodomains separated by a 5-7-5-7 GB are AB stacking and twisted stacking with respect to the underlying graphite substrate and exhibit distinct electronic properties,forming a graphene *** addition,we construct homojunctions with alternative AB/twisted stacking nanodomains separated by parallel 5-7-5-7 ***,the stacking orders of homojunctions are manipulated from AB/twist into twist/twist type through a STM *** controllable fabrication and manipulation of graphene homojunctions with 5-7-5-7 GBs and distinct stacking orders open an avenue for the construction of GBs-based devices in valleytronics and twistronics.

Clinical observation on acupuncture plus subtle adjustment manipulation of the cervical spine for peripheral facial paralysis

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture plus subtle adjustment manipulation of the cervical spine for peripheral facial ***:A total of 60 patients with peripheral facial paralysis who met the screening criteria were selected and divided into two groups according to the method of random number table,with 30 cases in each *** patients in the acupuncture plus tuina group received routine treatment of acupuncture and subtle adjustment manipulation of the cervical spine,while the patients in the acupuncture group only received the same acupuncture *** of peripheral facial paralysis with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine was adopted for rehabilitation ***:The total effective rate of the acupuncture plus tuina group was 93.3%,while that of the acupuncture group was 70.0%,and there was a significant between-group difference(P<0.05).After treatment,the total scores of rehabilitation assessment in both groups were significantly higher than those before treatment(both P<0.05),and the score of the acupuncture plus tuina group was significantly higher than that of the acupuncture group(P<0.05).Conclusion:The treatment of acupuncture plus subtle adjustment manipulation of the cervical spine can improve the function of facial muscles in patients with peripheral facial paralysis,and its clinical efficacy is better than that of the acupuncture treatment alone.

CLINICAL STUDY ON TREATMENT OF CERVICAL SPONDYLOTIC SYNDROME WITH BEETLE NEEDLE

The authors treated 68 cases of cervical spondylotic syndrome with beetle nee-dle,a new needle apparatus(made by themselves)which is not inserted into the skin of the humanbody.A total of 15 sessions of treatment were given to every *** showed that 56 cases(82％)were cured,7 cases(10.3％)improved and 5 cases(7.4％)*** as its name implies,the beetle is instead of acupuncture *** the diseases being able to be treated with acupunctureneedle could also be treated with beetle *** addition,the beetle needle therapy has no violentpain,is safe,effective and easy to be popularized. It also has no harm to viscerae,no cross infection,no dangers of broken needle and of failing during treatment,so,the patient needs not to be in *** therapy is preferable for patients to accept.

Rehabilitation Including Manual Therapy Management Following Complicated Immobilized Radial Head Fracture and Elbow Stiffness: A Case Report

Radial head fractures are one of the most common fractures of the elbow and typically occur after a fall on an outstretched arm. When the fracture is displaced, unfavorable outcomes can occur and lead to early arthritis. Additionally, elbow pain and stiffness due to immobilization or surgical reduction and stabilization typically ensues and can limit one’s overall upper extremity function. Rehabilitation following such a fracture can be challenging and the inclusion of manual therapy in the management process has not been described to date in the literature. Therefore, the aim of this case report is to present the evaluation and treatment of a 40-year-old female following a complicated radial head fracture. The rehabilitation conducted over a four-month course is discussed and the benefits of joint specific manual therapy in the rehabilitation are highlighted.

The acoustic streaming,which usually flushes trapped entities away,has been viewed as a negative factor in acoustic *** we report a method that uses mobile acoustic streaming to effectively trap a single nanowire within water film on substrate *** streaming is generated by a micro-probe with uniform diameter and in *** trapped nanowire,which is pushed onto the micro-probe surface by the streaming,is constantly perpendicular to the micro-probe vibration and symmetric about the micro-probe *** can be stably transferred through any 3D path in the water film by moving the micro-probe.
