The research proposes a simulation model combined with smart optimizer based onArtificial Intelligence techniques, in order to support service and maintenance of poolswithin Complex Systems, such as power plants or vessel/aircraft fleet.The authors propose an innovative methodology allowing the evaluation and theoptimization of service and maintenance policies in order to improve inventory management and scheduling operations within complex systems. This methodology is based onthe development of a simulator combined with an intelligent optimizer.The authors proposed a new metrics to evaluate the real performance of pool servicemanagement of the whole complex system and support the optimization processes.

Hydraulic system has a critical and important role in drilling machines.Any failure in this system leads to problems in power system and machine operation.Since the failure cannot be prevented entirely,it is important to minimize its probability.Reliability is one of the most effcient and important method to study safe operation probability of hydraulic systems.In this research,the reliability of hydraulic system of four rotary drilling machines in Sarcheshmeh Copper Mine in Iran has been analyzed.The data analysis shows that the time between failures(TBF)of Machines A and C obey the Weibull(2P)and Weibull(3P)distribution,respectively.Also,the TBF of Machines B and D obey the lognormal distribution.With regard to reliability plots of hydraulic systems,preventive reliability-based maintenance time intervals for 80%reliability levels for machines in this system are 10 h.

Overview about three key contents of condition-based maintenance decision-making of a multi-component system is analyzed based on maintenance optimization and modeling. The component deterioration model, the correlation between the degraded components and the system configuration are analyzed separately in the deterioration model of multi-component system.For the maintenance polices,the opportunistic maintenance( OM)policy and the grouping maintenance( GM) policy are analyzed and summarized in combination with the condition-based maintenance( CBM) modeling of multi-component system. It is put forward that CBM modeling of multi-component system should be further researched based on the inspection interval and the maintenance threshold of multi-component system in availability.

In this paper, the problem of maintenance task scheduling is tackled with a twofold objective: meeting the performance criteria of a company and taking into account some operators’ requirements. The production manager makes sure that makespan is optimised while developing operators’ flexibility. The use of skill matrixes enables him to make pairs and to develop training in order to make trainees more autonomous. Operators’ requirements are in particular related to periods of unavailability and their wishes relating to their tasks. Given the complexity of the problem, an exact solution isn’t conceivable and our research focuses on a metaheuritic method giving us a solution that is considered satisfactory. A multi-criteria analysis of the results is performed in order to reach a compromise among conflicting goals.

In this editorial,we comment on pancreatic cancer(PC),one of the most aggressive and lethal cancers.Only minimal improvements in survival rates have been achieved over recent years.Available chemotherapeutic regimens have little impact,and surgical resection remains the only reliable curative approach.We address current treatment options for these patients,focusing on the usefulness of breast cancer(BRCA)gene mutation as a prognostic biomarker and predictor of response to chemotherapy.Superior survival outcomes have been reported in patients with PC and mutant BRCA gene treated with first-line platinum-based chemotherapy.Therefore,it appears appropriate to include BRCA gene status among clinical criteria used to select the chemotherapy regimen.In addition,maintenance treatment with poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase inhibitors has been found to improve progression-free survival in patients with PC and mutated BRCA whose disease does not progress after first-line platinum-based chemotherapy.This combination has therefore been proposed as the optimal treatment regimen for these patients.

Reliability Simulation and Design Optimization for Mechanical maintenance

Reliability model of a mechanical product system will be newly reconstructed and maintenance cost will increase because failed parts can be replaced with new components during service, which should be accounted for in system design. In this paper, a reliability model and reliability-based design optimization methodology for maintenance are presented. First, based on the time-to-failure density function of the part of the system, the age distributions of all parts of the system during service are investigated, a reliability model of the mechanical system for maintenance is developed. Then, reliability simulations of the systems with WeibuU probability density functions are performed, the system minimum reliability and steady reliability for maintenance are defined based on reliability simulation during the life cycle of the system. Thirdly, a maintenance cost model is developed based on replacement rates of the parts, a reliability-based design optimization model for maintenance is presented, in which total life cycle cost is considered as design objective and system reliability as design constrain. Finally, the reliability-based design optimization methodology for maintenance is used to design of a link ring for the chain conveyor, which shows that optimal design with the lowest maintenance cost can be obtained, and minimum reliability and steady reliability of the system can satisfy requirement of system reliability during service of the chain conveyor.

Spherical roller bearings in railway car wheels are critical components whose failure may have catastrophic consequences. The present study aims to analyse the mechanical stability of greases and temperature of bearings as indicators for condition-based bearing maintenance. The performed case study includes nine fully-formulated commercial greases examined in the wheel bearings of five ore cars operated in northern Scandinavia. The studied ore cars travelled a distance of about 300 000 km during a period of three years. Small samples of the greases were taken on eight occasions to test their mechanical stability. In addition, the temperatures of the bearings were continuously recorded. After the test period, the wear, electrical damage, and corrosion of the bearings were examined. One of the findings is that the shear stress of the grease at a certain shear velocity （the certain yieldstress （CEY） value） is a good maintenance indicator and is highly dependent on the grease type. The bearing＇s wear, electrical damage and corrosion also depend on the grease type. However, no oxidation of the greases was identified. The paper also outlines a systematic methodology to determine an overall maintenance indicator for railway roller bearings which is based on the field measurements.

Methodologies on estimating the energy requirements for maintenance and determining the net energy contents of feed ingredients in swine:a review of recent work

In the past two decades, a considerable amount of research has focused on the determination of the digestible(DE) and metabolizable energy(ME) contents of feed ingredients fed to swine. Compared with the DE and ME systems, the net energy(NE) system is assumed to be the most accurate estimate of the energy actually available to the animal. However, published data pertaining to the measured NE content of ingredients fed to growing pigs are limited. Therefore, the Feed Data Group at the Ministry of Agricultural Feed Industry Centre(MAFIC) located at China Agricultural University has evaluated the NE content of many ingredients using indirect calorimetry. The present review summarizes the NE research works conducted at MAFIC and compares these results with those from other research groups on methodological aspect. These research projects mainly focus on estimating the energy requirements for maintenance and its impact on the determination, prediction, and validation of the NE content of several ingredients fed to swine. The estimation of maintenance energy is affected by methodology, growth stage,and previous feeding level. The fasting heat production method and the curvilinear regression method were used in MAFIC to estimate the NE requirement for maintenance. The NE contents of different feedstuffs were determined using indirect calorimetry through standard experimental procedure in MAFIC. Previously generated NE equations can also be used to predict NE in situations where calorimeters are not available. Although popular, the caloric efficiency is not a generally accepted method to validate the energy content of individual feedstuffs. In the future,more accurate and dynamic NE prediction equations aiming at specific ingredients should be established, and more practical validation approaches need to be developed.

While some industries have inherent difficulties seeing what maintenance is all about, others have begun to add more flavor to the organizational maintenance practices.
