Correlation of magnetic resonance imaging quantitative parameters and apparent diffusion coefficient value with pathological breast cancer

BACKGROUND China ranks 120th worldwide for the incidence of breast cancer and 163rd for mortality.Early screening,diagnosis,and timely determination of the optimal treatment plan can help ensure clinical efficacy and prognosis.AIM To investigate the relationship between quantitative magnetic resonance imaging parameters,apparent diffusion coefficient value,pathological immunohistochemical status,and patient prognosis.METHODS A total of 108 patients with breast cancer(breast cancer group)and 110 patients with benign breast tumors(benign group)confirmed by pathological examination at our Hospital from September 2013 to August 2016 were selected.All patients had undergone preoperative magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)examinations,and the quantitative parameters of MRI and apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)values for the two groups were compared.The MRI quantitative parameters and ADC values of patients with different estrogen receptor(ER),progesterone receptor,and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 expression were statistically analyzed.The relationship between the quantitative parameters of MRI and ADC values and patient recurrence was analyzed using receiver operating curves.RESULTS The measured values of the quantitative parameters of MRI-Ktrans,Kep,and Ve in the breast cancer group were higher than those in the benign group;the ADC value in the breast cancer group was lower than that in the benign group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The Ktrans,Ve,and ADC values in patients with ER-positive breast cancer were significantly lower than those in patients with negative ER expression(P<0.05).After 5 years of follow-up,22 patients with breast cancer experienced postoperative recurrence.The Kep,Ve,and ADC values of the recurrence group were significantly lower than those of the non-recurrence group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).CONCLUSION MRI quantitative parameters and ADC are related to the expression of breast cancer-related immunological receptor factors and

Efficacy of digital breast tomosynthesis combined with magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of early breast cancer

BACKGROUND The incidence and mortality rate of breast cancer in China rank 120th and 163rd,worldwide,respectively.The incidence of breast cancer is on the rise;the risk increases with age but is slightly reduced after menopause.Early screening,diagnosis,and timely determination of the best treatment plan can ensure clinical efficacy and prognosis.AIM To evaluate the clinical value of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) combined with digital breast tomosynthesis(DBT) in diagnosing early breast cancer and the effect of breast-conserving surgery by arc incision.METHODS This study was divided into two parts.Firstly,110 patients with early breast cancer confirmed by pathological examination and 110 with benign breast diseases diagnosed simultaneously in Changzhi People’s Hospital of Shanxi Province and Shanxi Dayi Hospital from May 2019 to September 2020 were included in the breast cancer group and the benign group,respectively.Both groups underwent DBT and MRI examination,and the pathological results were used as the gold standard to evaluate the effectiveness of the combined application of DBT and MRI in the diagnosis of early breast cancer.Secondly,according to the operation method,110 patients with breast cancer were divided into either a breast-conserving group(69 patients) or a modified radical mastectomy group(41 patients).The surgical effect,cosmetic effect,and quality of life of the two groups were compared.RESULTS Among the 110 cases of breast cancer,66 were of invasive ductal carcinoma(60.00%),and 22 were of ductal carcinoma in situ(20.00%).Among the 110 cases of benign breast tumors,55 were of breast fibromas(50.00%),and 27 were of breast adenosis(24.55%).The sensitivity,specificity,and area under the curve(AUC) of DBT in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast tumors were 73.64%,84.55%,and 0.791,respectively.The sensitivity,specificity,and AUC of MRI in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast tumors were 84.55%,85.45%,and 0.850,respectively.The sensitivity,specificity,and A

Aim： To investigate whether the biological process of superparamagnetic iron oxide （SPIO）-labeled human mesenchymal stem cells （hMSCs） may be monitored non-invasively by using in vivo magnetic resonance （MR） imaging with conventional 1.5-T system examinations in corpus cavernosa of rats and rabbits. Methods： The labeling efficiency and viability of SP10-labeled hMSCs were examined with Prussian blue and Tripan blue, respectively. After SPIO-labeled hMSCs were transplanted to the corpus cavernosa of rats and rabbits, serial T2-weighted MR images were taken and histological examinations were carried out over a 4-week period. Results： hMSCs loaded with SPIO compared to unlabeled cells had a similar viability. For SPIO-labeled hMSCs more than lx 105 concentration in vitro, MR images showed a decrease in signal intensity. MR signal intensity at the areas of SPIO-labeled hMSCs in the rat and rabbit corpus cavernosa decreased and was confined locally. After injection of SPIO-labeled hMSCs into the corpus cavernosum, MR imaging demonstrated that hMSCs could be seen for at least 12 weeks after injection. The presence of iron was confirmed with Prussian blue staining in histological sections. Conclusion： SP10-labeled hMSCs in corpus cavernosa of rats and rabbits can be evaluated non-invasively by molecular MR imaging. Our findings suggest that MR imaging has the ability to test the long-term therapeutic potential of hMSCs in animals in the setting of erectile dysfunction.

magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging following major ozonated autohemotherapy for treatment of acute cerebral infarction

Major ozonated autohemotherapy has been shown to promote recovery of upper limb motor function in patients with acute cerebral infarction, but whether naajor ozonated autohelnotherapy affects remote in）ury remains poorly understood. Here, we assumed that major ozonated autohemotherapy contributes to recovery of clinical function, possibly by reducing remote injury after acute cerebral infarction. Sixty acute cerebral infarction patients aged 30-80 years were equally and randomly allocated to ozone treatment and control groups. Patients in the ozone treatment group received medical treatment and major ozonated autohemotherapy （47 mg/L, 100 mL ozone） for 10 ± 2 days. Patients in the control group received medical treatment only. National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score, modified Rankin scale score, and reduced degree of fractional anisotropy values of brain magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging were remarkably decreased, brain function improved, clinical efficiency significantly increased, and no obvious adverse reactions detected in the ozone treatment group compared with the control group. These findings suggest that major ozonated autohemotherapy promotes recovery of neurological function in acute cerebral infarction patients by reducing re,note injury, and additionally, exhibits high safety.

BACKGROUND Synchronous liver metastasis(SLM)is an indicator of poor prognosis for colorectal cancer(CRC).Nearly 50%of CRC patients develop hepatic metastasis,with 15%-25%of them presenting with SLM.The evaluation of SLM in CRC is crucial for precise and personalized treatment.It is beneficial to detect its response to chemotherapy and choose an optimal treatment method.AIM To construct prediction models based on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)-radiomics and clinical parameters to evaluate the chemotherapy response in SLM of CRC.METHODS A total of 102 CRC patients with 223 SLM lesions were identified and divided into disease response(DR)and disease non-response(non-DR)to chemotherapy.After standardizing the MRI images,the volume of interest was delineated and radiomics features were calculated.The MRI-radiomics logistic model was constructed after methods of variance/Mann-Whitney U test,correlation analysis,and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator in feature selecting.The radiomics score was calculated.The receiver operating characteristics curves by the DeLong test were analyzed with MedCalc software to compare the validity of all models.Additionally,the area under curves(AUCs)of DWI,T2WI,and portal phase of contrast-enhanced sequences radiomics model(Ra-DWI,Ra-T2WI,and Ra-portal phase of contrast-enhanced sequences)were calculated.The radiomicsclinical nomogram was generated by combining radiomics features and clinical characteristics of CA19-9 and clinical N staging.RESULTS The AUCs of the MRI-radiomics model were 0.733 and 0.753 for the training(156 lesions with 68 non-DR and 88 DR)and the validation(67 lesions with 29 non-DR and 38 DR)set,respectively.Additionally,the AUCs of the training and the validation set of Ra-DWI were higher than those of Ra-T2WI and Ra-portal phase of contrast-enhanced sequences(training set:0.652 vs 0.628 and 0.633,validation set:0.661 vs 0.575 and 0.543).After chemotherapy,the top four of twelve deltaradiomics features of Ra-DWI in the DR group belonged to gray-level run

Hyperpolarized^(3)He nuclei have emerged as a significantly important approach in quantum precision measurement techniques,with extensive applications in fundamental physics,magnetometry,metrology,and beyond.In this study,we report on the design and implementation of a^(3)He polarization system at the China Mianyang Research Reactor(CMRR),utilizing the metastabilityexchange optical pumping(MEOP)method.We employed a Merritt coil system consisting of four square coils to furnish a uniform holding field.We deployed a 2 W fiber laser to pump the metastable^(3)He atoms and conducted free induction decay(FID)detection of the polarized^(3)He nuclei using both pickup coil and optical methods.For the optical method,we used a50 m W linearly polarized distributed Bragg reflector(DBR)laser as the probe.We applied transverse light absorption polarimetry to measure the absolute nuclear polarization of the ground-state^(3)He.We have developed cell fabrication capabilities at the CMRR,and cells at various pressures ranging from 100 to 1000 Pa have been fabricated and evaluated.For a typical borosilicate cell with 100 Pa pressure,the absolute polarization is measured as Pn≈70%,and the transverse relaxation time is estimated as T2≈0.5 s.Moreover,we constructed a few aluminosilicate cells,each carefully filled with pure^(3)He at a pressure of 100 Pa.Subsequently,we conducted a comprehensive evaluation of their performance in the context of MEOP.

Engineering high-performance dielectric chiral shells with enhanced chiral fields for sensitive chiral biosensor

Chiral metamaterials have been a topic of significant research interest in recent years due to their potential for various applications in nanophotonic devices and chiral biosensors.However,the intrinsic Ohmic loss in surface plasmonic resonance has limited their practical use,resulting in large light dissipation and weak chiroptical resonance.Here,we report on the development of high-performance dielectric chiral shells(DCS)through a two-step Si deposition process on a self-assembled microsphere monolayer.The form DCS sample completely oyercomes the cancelation effect originated from the disorder property of the micro-sphere monolayer in macroscale,and at a wavelength of approximately 710 nm,the measured optimal chiral signal(g-factor)and transmittance can reach up to 0.7 and 0.3,respectively.The strong chiroptical effect comes from the asymmetric circular displacement currents(i.e.,magnetic modes)enabled by the specific shell geometry.The chiral shell geometry,electromagnetic properties,sensor sensitivity of chiral molecules and figure of merit are systematically investigated.The DCSs demonstrate highly sensitive detection of chiral biomolecules owing to their easily accessible geometry and enhanced uniform chiral field.

Effect of the extrahepatic bile duct anatomy on choledocholithiasis and its clinical significance

BACKGROUND A comprehensive understanding of the extrahepatic bile duct anatomy is vital to guide surgical procedures and perform endoscopic retrograde cholangiography.Anatomical irregularities within the extrahepatic bile duct may increase susceptibility to bile duct stones.AIM To investigate the anatomical risk factors associated with extrahepatic bile ducts in patients diagnosed with choledocholithiasis,with a specific focus on preventing stone recurrence after surgical intervention and endoscopic lithotomy.METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of 124 patients without choledocholithiasis and 108 with confirmed choledocholithiasis who underwent magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography examinations at our center between January 2022 and October 2022.Logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify the anatomical risk factors influencing the incidence of common bile duct stones.RESULTS Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that several factors independently contributed to choledocholithiasis risk.Significant independent risk factors for choledocholithiasis were diameter of the common hepatic[adjusted odds ratio(aOR)=1.43,95%confidence interval(CI):1.07-1.92,adjusted P value=0.016]and common bile(aOR=1.68,95%CI:1.27-2.23,adjusted P value<0.001)ducts,length of the common hepatic duct(aOR=0.92,95%CI:0.84-0.99,adjusted P value=0.034),and angle of the common bile duct(aOR=0.92,95%CI:0.89–0.95,adjusted P value<0.001).The anatomical features of the extrahepatic bile duct were directly associated with choledocholithiasis risk.Key risk factors include an enlarged diameter of the common hepatic and bile ducts,a shorter length of the common hepatic duct,and a reduced angle of the common bile duct.

In vivo tracking of neuronal-like cells by magnetic resonance in rabbit models of spinal cord injury

In vitro experiments have demonstrated that neuronal-like cells derived from bone marrow mesen- chymal stem cells can survive, migrate, integrate and help to restore the function and behaviors of spinal cord injury models, and that they may serve as a suitable approach to treating spinal cord injury. However, it is very difficult to track transplanted cells in vivo. In this study, we injected su- perparamagnetic iron oxide-labeled neuronal-like cells into the subarachnoid space in a rabbit model of spinal cord injury. At 7 days after cell transplantation, a small number of dot-shaped low signal intensity shadows were observed in the spinal cord injury region, and at 14 days, the number of these shadows increased on T2-weighted imaging. Perl＇s Prussian blue staining detected dot-shaped low signal intensity shadows in the spinal cord injury region, indicative of superpara- magnetic iron oxide nanoparticle-labeled cells. These findings suggest that transplanted neu- ronal-like cells derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells can migrate to the spinal cord injury region and can be tracked by magnetic resonance in vivo. magnetic resonance imaging represents an efficient noninvasive technique for visually tracking transplanted cells in vivo.
