Accelerator magnet system is a major guarantee for ion beam running in vacuum tube over long-distance transmitting. Monitoring system of magnets temperature needs to fulfill the basic function of remote monitoring and alarming. In order to use unified interface and be easy to publish process variables（PVs）, a new system is developed and presented in this paper. This software is designed based on Experimental Physics and Industrial Control system（EPICS）, and a new device support file is also developed. It is realized to acquire temperature data from onsite devices, display the real-time data and store historical data automatically. When abnormal data is received it will alert immediately. The interlock module will work at the same time. After being running in the central control room for nearly two years, this system is proved to be extremely accurate and reliable.

SST-1 Refurbishment Progress: an Update

Refurbishment of steady state tokamak （SST-1） primarily focused at addressing the issues and bottle-necks involving various subsystems of SST-1 as observed during earlier commis- sioning attempts, have progressed significantly. Under the refurbishment spectrum, all joints in the superconducting magnet system have been re-fabricated as low DC leak tight joint resistances, all toroidal field （TF） magnets have been equipped with 5 K radiation shields on the inner side and successfully tested for their rated parameters in cold under nominal currents, all vessel sectors and modules have been baked and tested under representative conditions, supporting helium and ni- trogen cryogenic facilities have been made 〉 99% reliable in various envisaged operating scenarios of SST-1. The reassemblies of the critical subsystems of the SST-1 machine shell have progressed aggressively and are nearing completion. Auxiliaries such as the baking facility for the vacuum vessel and first wall components, current leads assembly distributions, synchronized timing sys- tem, reliable data acquisition and plasma control systems as well as essential diagnostics have also been readied towards the first plasma. A detailed engineering validation of the assembled SST-1 machine shell including field error measurements has been planned prior to first plasma attempts.

Improving Residence Time Distribution in Glass Melting Tanks Using Additionally Generated Lorentz Forces

Continuous glass melting tanks represent thermo-chemical reactors with very complex flow patterns. Controlling the flow patterns within the glass melting tanks with the aim of improving their performance is one of the glass industry primary challenges. The tank performance is basically determined by the RTD （residence time distribution） of the glass melt, which directly impacts the glass quality and energy distribution. In the present work, numerical simulations are carried out on the electromagnetic flow control to investigate how well the flow can be controlled by externally generated electromagnetic （Lorenz） forces that are added to the glass melt. Furthermore, the melting tanks are equipped with supplementary electric heating systems called ＂electric boosters＂. The desired result would be an improved RTD. The electromagnetic flow control is called ＂electromagnetic boosting＂ and can be realized by exposing the glass bath to an external magnetic field generating Lorentz forces on the glass melt as an additional flow component. The numerical simulations of the present study require coupled calculations of electromagnetic field, flow field, and temperature field, because the material properties of glass melt are strongly temperature-dependent. The computational results show that electromagnetic boosting is an excellent way of improving the RTD in glass melting tanks, ultimately resulting in better glass quality and increased productivity. Of course, the glass industry is highly interested in achieving exactly this result.
