The mixed transition metal compound, Li1+x [Ni1/3Mn(1/3-y)A1y]O2 (x = 0, 0.04;y = 0, 0.04). was synthesized via coprecipitation followed by a high-temperature heat-treatment. The XRD patterns reveal that this material has a typical layered structure with R3m space group. Spherical morphologies with secondary particles were observed by scanning electron microscopy and the size of powder could be controlled by coprecipitation and calcinations process. Al doping and Li excess were effective for the improvement of physical properties such as crystal-Unity, morphology and density. These improved physical characteristics can enhance the capacity, retention and rate capability, even though the electrodes are cycled between 3. 0 V and 4. 6 V.
