A theoretical processing map for the laser cladding of Ti-6AI-4V powder on a Ti-6AI-4V substrate was developed. The map was constructed with the aid of a new analytical model for laser cladding, which is detailed in this paper. The map is a series of loci that relate laser traversing speed with laser power for a given melt pool depth and clad height. Several of the developed parameters were experimentally trialled on Ti-6Al-4V clad on Ti-6Al-4V and produced clads of sound metallurgical quality. These maps would be useful for industrial engineers developing new cladding procedures or the research engineer developing understanding of the fundamental aspects of laser cladding. Additive manufacturing or laser engineered net shaping （LENS） could also use this type of map for the development of process parameters.

Coating titanium alloy with the bioceramic material hydroxyapatite(HAP) has been used to improve the poor osteoinductive properties of pure titanium alloy. But in clinical applications, the mechanical failure of HAP-coated titanium alloy implant suffered at the interface of the HAP coatings and titanium alloy substrate will be a potential weakness in prosthesis. Yttria-stablized zirconia (YSZ) is expected to enhance the mechanical properties of the HAP coating and reduce the coefficient of thermal expansion difference between the coated layer and the substrate. These may reinforce the bonding strength between the coatings and the substrate. In this paper, HAP/YSZ composite coatings were cladded by laser. The effects of zirconia on the microstructure, mechanical properties and formation of tricalcium phosphate (TCP, Ca 3(PO 4) 2) of the HAP/YSZ composite coatings were evaluated. XRD, SEM and TEM were used to investigate the phase composition, microstructure and morphology of the coatings. The experimental results showed that adding YSZ in coatings was favorable to the composition and stability of HAP, and to the improvement of the adhesion strength, microhardness and microtoughness. A well uniform, crack-free coating of HAP/YSZ composites was formed on Ti-alloy substrate by laser cladding.

The process of laser cladding procedure has a closely relation with properties of composite cladding layers. When the input power of laser is certain, the low scanning velocity makes substrate with ahead of laser beam heat for a long time, which worsens interface bonding from surface oxidized; much higher scanning velocity makes the powder’s synthesis near substrate uncompleted fully, the remained powder in interface worsens interface bonding as well. Otherwise, the input specific energy of laser influences on in-situ synthesis courses. If the input energy is lower, the synthesis is not completed fully. In addition, the low temperature effects not only restrict the dispersion of particle leading uneven distribution of TiC, but also form some regions consisting of Al and Al 3Ti.

（A165Cu20Fe15）100-xSnx （x=0, 12, 20, 30） and A157SitoCulsFe15 powders were cladded on a medium carbon steel （45# steel） substrate by laser multilayer cladding, respectively. The phases and properties of the produced quasicrystalline bulks were investigated. It was found that the main phases in the A165Cu2oFe15 sample were crystalline L-Al13Fe4 and icosahedral quasicrystal together with a small volume fraction of 0-A12Cu phase. The volume fraction of icosahedral phase decreased as the Sn content in the （A165Cu20Fe18）100-xSnx samples increased owing to the formation of β-CuSn phase. The increase of Sn content improved the brittleness of the quasicrystal samples. The morphology of the solidification microstructure in the Al57Si10Cu18Fe15 sample changed from elongated shape to spherical shape due to the addition of Si. The nanohardness of the laser multilayer cladded quasicrystal samples was equal to that of the as-cast sample prepared by vacuum quenching. In terms of hardness, the laser cladded A157Si10Cu18Fe15 quasicrystalline alloy has the highest value among all the investigated samples.

H13 powder is cladded on steel P20 （base） by continuous COe laser, and the influence of technological pa rameters such as the laser power is analyzed. The 3-D model of synchronous powder feeding is built under Gauss heat source. The simulative results in the heat affected zone are compared with the experimental ones, and the average er rors of width and depth are 15% and 4.5%, respectively. It is found that the simulative results provide basic data for investigating of laser cladding further.

NiCr/Cr3C2-WS2-CaF2 mixed powders were prepared on 1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel substrate to fabricate high-temperature self lubrication wear resistant composite coating by laser cladding. The microstructure of the coating was examined by means of XRD, SEM and EDS. The high-temperature dry sliding friction and wear behavior of the composite coating were evaluated by using a ball-on-block wear tester at room temperature, 300 ℃ and 600 ℃, respectively. The results showed that the composite coating had a unique microstructure consisting of γ-（Ni,Fe） solid solution matrix, Cr7C3/WC reinforcement and CrS/WS2 lubricant particles. The hardness of NiCr/Cr3C2-WS2-CaF2 coating by laser cladding was lower than NiCr/Cr3C2 coating, but higher than stainless steel substrate significantly. It was because of the addition of solid lubricant. In the wear process, elevated temperature was helpful to form a lubricating transfer film. As a result, the NiCr/Cr3C2-WS2-CaF2 coating exhibited a notable anti-friction and wear resistance at 300 ℃ and 600 ℃.
