Hydroxyl radicals induced by quartz particles in lung alveolar macrophages: the role of surface iron

Previous studies have shown that hydroxyl radical generation is a key step in the mechanism of pathogenic process caused by airborne particles to the lung. However, there is no direct evidence for dose-response relationship between airborne particles and hydroxyl radical generation. In this study, hydroxyl radicals generated in lung alveolar macrophages exposed to quartz particles were measured using a highly sensitive capillary electrophoresis-fluorescence detection method. The results demonstrated that quartz particles induced the generation of hydroxyl radical in a dose-dependent manner, and the amount of the hydroxyl radicals was 10-10 mol/10 cells. The viability of alveolar macrophages exposed to quartz particles decreased with the increase of quartz concentration, showing a clear dose-response relationship. Hydroxyl radical scavenger mannitol could increase the viability of quartz-treated cells, suggesting that hydroxyl radical contributed directly to cell death. In this study this contribution accounted for about 5%-20% of cell death. The hydroxyl radical generating potential was found to be related to surface iron.content of the quartz particles.

Difference factor between inner-and interlayer bond forces in M_3C pattern carbides

The valence electron structures and bond energy of M3C pattern carbides in white cast iron. are calculated on the basis of Yu Ruihuang’s empirical electron theory of solids and molecules (E.E. T. ) by means of bond length difference method (BLD). Based on the results, a difference factor θ for measuring the difference between inner- and interlayer bond forces is proposed to study the influence of alloying elements Cr, Mn and W on the morphology of Fe3C during solidification.

Synthesis of a Novel Chiral Trihydroxamic Acid Containing L-Pro-L-Ala-L-Ala-β-(HO)Ala-OMe Unit

An N-hydroxyl peptide unit of H-L-Pro-L-Ala-L-Ala-β-（BnO）Ala-OMe was synthesized by stepwise chain building method in solution. Then, based on nitrilotriacetic acid backbone and this N-hydroxyl peptide unit, a novel chiral tripodal ligand P as an analogue of desferrichrome, has been synthesized. In neutral pH, ligand P formed stable tri（hydroxamato）- iron.Ⅲ） complexes which showed a maximum absorptiota （∑max=2750 M^-lcm^-1） at 422 nm in UV-Vis spectra. The characteristic absorption spectra are similar to those of natural trihydroxamate-type siderophores.

Microcosm Study： Effect of Fe（II） Addition in Sawdust for Phosphorous Recovery from Eutrophic Aquatic Ecosystems

The recovery of phosphorus in eutrophic water bodies adsorption in sawdust can be promoted by Fe（III） oxide-hydroxides is important to ensure water and food security, phosphorus biofllms. The main objective of this study was to analyze the influence of iron.addition in sawdust on phosphorus adsorption. The microcosm experiment was performed with water and sediment samples from a eutrophic reservoir located in Barra Bonita/SP. Three control flasks （without bags） and 18 others as treatments （with two bags filled with sawdust, with or without previous Fe（II） addition） were assembled. The addition of iron.did not promote greater phosphorus adsorption, the sawdust without previous iron.addition had a total phosphorus concentration of 49μg·P·g^-1, while the sawdust with previous iron.addition had 14.4μg.p.g^-1. The use of sawdust for the remediation of eutrophic water bodies is interesting, especially considering the low-cost and possibility of reuse as fertilizer in agriculture.

Models for Assessment and Computational Analysis of Hardness of the Heat Affected Zone in Water Cooled Aluminum Weldment

Models have been derived for assessment and computational analysis of the hardness of the heat affected zone (HAZ) in aluminum weldment. The general model;γ = 1.2714[(αβ/α + β)] was found to predict the HAZ hardness of aluminum weldment cooled in water as a function of the HAZ hardness of both mild steel and cast iron.welded and cooled under the same conditions. The maximum deviations of the model-predicted HAZ hardness values γ, α and β from the corresponding experimental values γexp, αexp and βexp were less than 0.02% respectively.
