interlanguage Fossilization is a thorny obstacle to learners in second language acquisition process. Based on data collected from non-English major undergraduates in Hubei University of Economics (HBUE), this paper carries out an empirical study on students'fossilized errors in the learning process, and aims to explore fossilization causes and propose de-fossilization techniques so as to improve students'language learning.

interlanguage, proposed by Selinker in 1972, is applied to elaborate the second language learning process. It has been over 30 years since it was put forward, and great achievements have been made in the study of this field. In the course of research, fossilization, regarded as an interesting phenomenon, is always being concerned by all the IL (interlanguage) researchers. This paper makes an overview of fossilization by combining the definition and types of fossilization to have a better understanding of the heated topic.

As the interlanguage is a lingual continuum between the native language and the target language, it is strongly influenced by both of them during its formation. On the other hand, language is inseparable from culture. Without the proper knowledge and understanding of the target language culture, one can never rally master it. So, to reduce the negative language transfer, the L2 learners should strengthen the target language culture study throughout their whole lingual development.
