＜正＞Integration of bilateral sensory signals is important for the survival of an *** primary somatosensory cortex（SI） can be activated by both contralateral and ipsilateral whisker stimulation,though it does not receive directly ipsilateral sensory *** has been proposed that the activity evoked by ipsilateral whisker stimulation is transmitted from contralateral SI,but the pathway for the transmission remains *** use voltage-sensitive dye imaging to visualize the whisker-evoked responses in rat somatosensory cortex and surrounding *** find that ipsilateral whisker stimulation activates first the dysgranular zones（DZ） outside the barrel cortex,and the evoked activity forms a propagating wave that spreads into the whisker sub-barrel *** stimulation to the contralateral SI further confirms the *** initiation sites in the DZ activation are close to each other when different ipsilateral whiskers are stimulated.A comparison between the responses to contralateral and bilateral stimulation indicates that the involvement of DZ activation may improve the discriminability of the *** results suggest that ipsilateral whisker stimulation first initiates activation in the corresponding barrel in the contralateral side,and activates the ipsilateral DZ via the interhemispheric connections between the DZ *** ipsilateral somatosensory activation has a non-specific representation in the DZ and does not overlap with that of contralateral whisker *** activation may participate in the sensory processing,gain control,and bilateral sensory integration.
