Carbon nanotubes for electronics manufacturing and packaging:from growth to integration

Carbon nanotubes （CNTs） possess excellent electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. They are light in weight yet stronger than most of the other materials. They can be made both highly conductive and semi-conductive. They can be made from nano-sized small catalyst particles and extend to tens of millimeters long. Since CNTs emerged as a hot topic in the early 1990s, numerous research efforts have been spent on the study of the various properties of this new material. CNTs have been proposed as alternative materials of potential excellence in a lot of applications such as electronics, chemical sensors, mechanical sensors/actuators and composite materials, etc. This paper reviews the use of CNTs particularly in electronics manufacturing and packaging field. The progresses of three most important applications, including CNT-based thermal interface materials, CNT-based interconnections and CNT-based cooling devices are reviewed. The growth and post-growth processing of CNTs for specific applications are introduced and the tai- loring of CNTs properties, i.e., electrical resistivity, thermal conductivity and strength, etc., is discussed with regard to specific application requirement. As the semiconductor industry is still driven by the need of getting smaller and faster, CNTs and the related composite systems as emerging new materials are likely to provide the solution to the future challenges as we make more and more complex electronics devices and systems.

Time course of foreign gene integration and expression in transgenic fish embryos

Using a nuclear transplantation approach, the integration and expression of the green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene in the embryogenesis of transgenic loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus Cantor) have been studied. The GFP gene expression is first observed at the gastrula stage, which is consistent with the initiation of cell differentiation of fish embryos. The time course of the foreign gene expression is correlated with the regulatory sequences. The expression efficiency also depends on the gene configuration: the expression of pre-integrating circular plasmid at early embryos is higher than that of the linear plasmid. The integration of the GFP gene is first detected at the blastula stage and lasts for quite a long period. When two types of different plasmids are co-injected into fertilized eggs, the behavior of their integration and expression is not identical.

Earthquake Disaster Simulation for an Urban Area,with GIS,CAD,FEA,and VR integration

For a disaster whose scale includes an urban area, it is difficult to be studied with physical experiments. Numerical simulation is found a very efficient tool for such problem. This paper aims at developing an integrated urban earthquake simulation system (UESS) that uses GIS as the model source, CAD as the model generating tools, FEA as damage prediction, and virtual reality (VR) as the post-process platform. An automatic procedure was developed to buildup the 3D structural model of buildings in an urban area, as well as to simulate their earthquake performances, from the digital map of GIS. And the simulation results were presented in an integrated interface with a GIS view-port for position finding, a CAD view-port for 3D structural damage identification, and a VR view-port for 3D dynamic structural vibration display. An urban example with more than 7000 buildings was select to demonstrate the feasibility of proposed system.

Muslim Confucian Philosophy:Islamic-Confucian Dialogue and the integration of Civilizations

At the end of the Ming Dynasty and at the beginning of the Qing Dynasty,a new theory of learning was created-Muslim Confucian Study(Chinese Islamic Philosophy)-on the basis of Islamic philosophy and under the influence of Confucianism.Wang Daiyu(1570-1660)and Liu Zhi(1660-1739)were two great Huiru(Muslim Confucian)scholars at that time.They published Zhengjiao zhenquan(The real commentary on the tire teaching),Tianfang xingli(Nature and principle in Islam)major books.Their approach is distinguished from that of other Muslim scholars in that they addressed the basic articles of Islamic thought with Confucian terminology and categories.The study deals with the Islamic worldview,and with the practices that make it possible for people to bring themselves into conformity with that worldview.However,the teaching of the Muslim Confucian was continuous with those of Mainstream Islam.In my research,I attempted to answer two questions:(a)How did Muslim Confucian Study Inherit the Mainstream Islamic Thought?(b)What is the value and contribution of the World Islamic philology and civilization?

The traditional musical instrument of minorities converges the evolution of ethnic group culture and history,and ethnic musical instruments are a core component of minority culture.The traditional instruments of Guangxi minorities are rich and varied,and an all-round cultural inheritance and protection mechanism should be used for ethnic musical instruments,so that the performance form of classical musical instruments of minorities can be more widely understood and mastered.Therefore,in this paper,we discuss the specific practice idea of the inheritance and development of classical musical instruments of Guangxi minorities,and facilitate the innovation of development path of ethnic musical instruments by taking the inheritance form of integrating musical instruments with operas.

Highly sensitive active-powering pressure sensor enabled by integration of double-rough surface hydrogel and flexible batteries

A conductive,elastic,and biocompatible hybrid network hydrogel was prepared by cross-linking of locust bean gum,polyvinyl alcohol,and carbon nanotubes,yielding a rough top surface and smooth bottom surface.The merging of the two pieces of hydrogel flat face to flat face forms a highly elastic hydrogel with double-rough surfaces.A piezoresistive sensor assembled with the double-rough surface hydrogel sandwiched between two carbon cloth electrodes exhibits a high sensitivity(20.5 kPa^(-1),0-1kPa),a broad detection range(0.1-100 kPa)and a reliable response for 1000 cycles.The rough contact area between the hydrogels and the carbon cloth is found critical in achieving ultra-high sensitivities in the low-pressure range.Moreover,further monolithic integration of the sensor with a flexible solid-state zinc ion battery ensures the self-powering of the sensor for various human motions detection applications.

Recently hybrid plasmonic waveguides have been becoming very attractive as a promising candidate to realize next-generation ultra-dense photonic integrated circuits because of the ability to achieve nano-scale confinement of light and relatively long propagation distance. Furthermore, hybrid plasmonic waveguides also offer a platform to merge photonics and electronics so that one can realize ultra-small optoelectronic integrated circuits （OEICs） for high-speed signal generation, processing as well as detection. In this paper, we gave a review for the progresses on various hybrid plasmonic wave- guides as well as ultrasmall functionality devices developed recently.
