Research on the next generation network architecture is a hot topic. To meet the requirements of the new Internet environment and eliminate the shortcomings of the existing network, integrated network is presented. In the naming system part, a system based on Chord algorithm was used, and multi-path is introduced to improve the name resolution reliability. In this paper, we mainly pay attention to the reliability model of integrated naming network system which can be attributed as a multi-path transmission issue, and the name resolution paths used in the network path may be cut off by attacks or other events. This paper focuses on parallel multi-path, which is recoverable when failure happens, transmission reliability, and proposes a corresponding reliability model to get the probability of successful transmission in such conditions. Finally, a numerical simulation is devised to demonstrate the multi-path name resolution's high reliability.

An analytical approach to evaluate the performance of the 3G/ad hoc integrated network is presented. A channel model capturing both path loss and shadowing is applied to the analysis so as to characterize power falloff vs. distance. The 3G/ad hoc integrated network scenario model is introduced briefly. Based on this model, several performances of the 3G/ ad hoc integrated network in terms of outage probability, call dropping probability and new call blocking probability are evaluated. The corresponding performance formulae are deduced in accordance with the analytical models. Meanwhile, the formula of the 3G/ad hoc integrated network capacity is deduced on the basis of the formula of the outage probability. It is observed from extensive simulation and numerical analysis that the 3G/ad hoc integrated network remarkably outperforms the 3G network with regards to the network performance. This derived evaluation approach can be applied into planning and optimization of the 3G/ad hoc network.

In the heterogeneous wireless networks of the next generation, a large number of different radio access technologies will be integrated into a common network. This paper considers optimizing the utilization of spectrum resource in heterogeneous environment consisting two different networks： wireless local area network （WLAN） and time division-synchronous code division multiple access （TD-SCDMA） network. An optimal joint spectrum borrowing scheme maximizing overall network revenue is proposed with quality of service （QoS） constraints over both the WLAN and the TD-SCDMA cellular networks. Simulation results illustrate that system revenue earned in the proposed joint spectrum borrowing scheme is significantly larger than the case when individual networks are optimized independently.

Taking advantage of spontaneous and infrastructure-less behavior, a mobile ad hoc network （MANET） can be integrated with various networks to extend communication for different types of network services. In the integrated system, to provide inter-connection between different networks and prnvide data aggregation, the design of the-gateway is vital. In some integrated networks with muhiple gateways, proper gateway selection guarantees desirable QoS and optimization of network resource utilization. However, how to select gateway efficiently is still challenging in the integrated MANET systems with distributed behavior terminals and limited network resources. In this paper, we examine gateway selection problem from different aspects including information discovery behavior, selection criteria and decision-making entity. The benefits and drawbacks for each method are illustrated and compared. Based on the discussion, points of considerations are highlighted for future studies.
