＜正＞ integral action is indispensable as a tool for achieving robust asymptotic regulation, but it degrades the transient response of the system. Recently, a new tool of conditional integral action was introduced as a way to achieve robust asymptotic regulation of a class of minimum phase nonlinear systems without degrading the transient performance. In this paper we review the main elements of this new tool. We start by developing the tool in a sliding-mode-control framework;then we extend it to other design techniques using Lyapunov redesign. We also demonstrate a connection between conditional integrators and commonly used integrator antiwindup schemes.

One of the founders of structural control theory and its application in civil engineering, Professor Emeritus Tsu T. Soong, envisioned the development of the integral design of structures protected by active control devices. Most of his disciples and colleagues continuously attempted to develop procedures to achieve such integral control. In his recent papers published jointly with some of the authors of this paper, Professor Soong developed design procedures for the entire structure using a design - redesign procedure applied to elastic systems. Such a procedure was developed as an extension of other work by his disciples. This paper summarizes some recent techniques that use traditional active control algorithms to derive the most suitable （optimal, stable） control force, which could then be implemented with a combination of active, passive and semi-active devices through a simple match or more sophisticated optimal procedures. Alternative design can address the behavior of structures using Liapunov stability criteria. This paper shows a unified procedure which can be applied to both elastic and inelastic structures. Although the implementation does not always preserve the optimal criteria, it is shown that the solutions are effective and practical for design of supplemental damping, stiffness enhancement or softening, and strengthening or weakening.

Suppression of high order disturbances and tracking for nonchaotic systems:a time-delayed state feedback approach

Time-delayed state feedback is an easy realizable control method that generates control force by differencing the current and the delayed versions of the system *** this paper,a new form of the time-delayed state feedback structure is *** on the proposed time-delayed state feedback method,a new robust tracking system is *** tracking system improves the conventional state feedback with integral action disturbance rejection characteristics in the presence of the disturbance signals imposed on the system dynamics or on the sensors that measure the system ***,the proposed tracking system tracks the ramp-shaped reference input signal,which is not achievable through conventional state ***,since the proposed method adds delays to the closed-loop system dynamics,the ordinary differential equation of the system changes to a delay differential equation with an infinite number of characteristic ***,conventional pole placement techniques cannot be used to design the time-delayed state feedback controller *** this paper,the simulated annealing algorithm is used to determine the proposed control system parameters and move the unstable roots of the delay differential equation to the left ***,the efficiency of the proposed reference input tracker is demonstrated by presenting two numerical examples.
