50 Years Experience of the *** Electric Welding institute in Field of Electron Beam Welding

Studying the possibilities of electron beam welding (EBW) and the principles of construction of equipment for electron beam welding,led by academician Boris Evgenyevich Paton,began at the *** Electric Welding institute (PWI) in *** resulted in development of the first laboratory-scale plant and welding of different small *** year later the method of electron beam welding turned out to be in great demand:in nuclear power engineering,in production of electric vacuum devices and liquid-fuel rocket *** 1961-1962 owing to effective coordination of work performed at government level,the first production machines for electron beam welding were put into operation at a number of branch *** the next few years,application of electron beam welding became wider,first of all in the above mentioned industries,and simultaneously electron beam welding began to be accepted by aircraft and power engineering *** 1960-s PWI organized in Ukraine full-scale production of power units,developed by it (guns,power sources and control systems) on the basis of Sumy Factory of Electron Microscopes.72 complete sets of power source units of SP-30 type (25 kV,500 mА),330 complete sets of U-250А (30 kV,450 mА),320 complete sets of ELA-60 (60 kV,250,500 and 1000 mА) and ELA-120 (120 kV,1000 mА) were manufactured in different periods of *** October 16th 1969 the first test of electron beam welding and cutting of metals was carried out in ?Soyuz-6? spaceship,that practically initiated the space *** was performed in Vulkan unit developed by *** that in space X-radiation and difficulties with high-voltage insulation could eliminate the possibility of electron beam application,low accelerating voltage (not higher than 8 kV) was used.

Predicting the presence of adenomatous polyps during colonoscopy with National Cancer institute Colorectal Cancer Risk-Assessment Tool

AIM To evaluate the National Cancer institute(NCI)Colorectal Cancer(CRC)Risk Assessment Tool as a predictor for the presence of adenomatous polyps(AP) found during screening or surveillance *** This is a retrospective single center observational *** collected data of adenomatous polyps in each colonoscopy and then evaluated the lifetime CRC *** calculated the AP prevalence across risk score quintiles,odds ratios of the prevalence of AP across risk score quintiles,area under curves(AUCs)and Youden’s indexes to assess the optimal risk score cut off value for AP prevalence *** The prevalence of AP gradually increased throughout the five risk score quintiles:i.e.,27.63%in the first and 51.35%in the fifth *** odd ratios of AP prevalence in the fifth quintile compared to the first and second quintile were 2.76[confidence interval(CI):1.71-4.47]and 2.09(CI:1.32-3.30).The AUC for all patients was 0.62(CI:0.58-0.66).Youden’s Index indicated the optimal risk score cutoff value discriminating AP prevalence status was *** Patients with the higher NCI risk score have higher risk of AP and subsequent CRC;therefore,measures to increase the effectiveness of CRC detection in these patients include longer withdrawal time,early surveillance colonoscopy,and choosing flexible colonoscopy over other CRC screening modalities.

In 1978, Professor Songshou Jin, a Chinese prestigious physical chemist, established institute of Catalysis, Hangzhou University, the forerunner of institute of Catalysis, Zhejiang University. In 1998, the current institute of Catalysis was re-established through the merger of Zhejiang University and Hangzhou University et al. During the past forty years, researchers in institute of Catalysis had always paid much attention to the combination of fundamental researches and industrial applications under the lead of Songshou Jin, Xiaoming Zheng, Weimin Lu, Hui Lou, and Yong Wang. The major research interest includes:(1) basic application research and exploitation of catalysts and catalytic process regarding conversion of biomass, methane, syngas and carbon dioxide;(2) development of catalysts and reaction apparatus for industrial hazardous gas, indoor gas, vehicle emissions and oil smoke from hotels and restaurants;(3) synthesis, characterization of functional materials and their applications in the green synthesis in fields of medicine, pesticide and fine chemical;(4) heterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic reaction kinetics and surface chemistry;(5) catalytic researches regarding military project.

Macroscopic Congenital Malformations at the institute of Nutrition and Child Health (INSE)

Introduction: A congenital malformation is defined as a morphological abnormality of an organ or body region resulting from an abnormal developmental process during the formation of the embryo or fetus. Depending on their type, location and size, malformations can cause functional, psychological and aesthetic defects. The aim of this study is to document the frequency of congenital malformations, describe the characteristics of malformed newborns and their biological mothers, and identify the different types of malformations presented by newborns at the INSE. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study of clinically visible malformed newborns. It was carried out from January 1, 2021 to January 1, 2022 at the INSE neonatology unit. Epi info version 3.1 software was used for data entry and analysis. Results: Of a total of 2332 neonates hospitalized during the study period, 81 (3.5%) cases had at least one clinically visible congenital malformation. Nearly 84% had an age ≤ 7 days at the time of admission. The male sex was most concerned (60.5%). Newborns referred by a health facility accounted for 84%. Malformations of the digestive system accounted for 30.9% of cases, followed by those of the limbs (19.8%) and poly malformative syndrome (19.8%). Conclusion: This study shows that congenital malformations exist and are frequent in Guinea. Our results could therefore be the starting point for the future establishment of a national register of congenital malformations.

Clinical-Pathological Characteristics of Colorectal Carcinoma and Factors Influence 2-Years Survival among Patients Attending Ocean Road Cancer institute Dar es Salaam Tanzania

Background: Colorectal carcinoma usually arises from an adenomatous polyp and observational studies suggest that the adenoma-to-carcinoma sequence takes approximately 10 to 15 years. Risk factors are adoption of westernized diets, obesity, cigarette smoking, and alcohol and reduced physical activity. Clinical Presentations are blood per rectum, abdominal pain, Anemia, change in bowel habits and bowel obstructive symptoms. The treatment of colorectal cancer is a dependent stage which includes chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery or both. Objective: This study aims at describing the clinical pathological characteristics of colorectal carcinoma and factors influencing survival among patients treated at Ocean Road Cancer institute. Methods: This was a cross sectional study that involved histological confirmed colorectal carcinoma treated at Ocean Road Cancer institute from 2010-2015. Results: Among 100 files extracted, 63% were males and 37% females. 21% were below 40 years of age. Left-sided tumor accounted for 46%. Abdominal pain, rectal bleeding and constipation were 72%, 68% and 55% respectively. Moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma accounted for 80%. Patients presented at stage III and IV were 37% and 56% respectively. Colostomy was the most surgical procedures performed. Folinic acid, Fluorouracil and Oxaliplatin were the most common chemotherapies used. Median overall survival was estimated to be 9.4 months. Conclusion: A significant proportion of patients in this study population are young. Survival from colorectal cancer is poor owing largely to the late presentation seen in this study group.

A Retrospective Study of Ovarian Sex Cord Stromal Tumors at the Egyptian National Cancer institute

Background: Ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors are an uncommon heterogeneous group of tumors with different biological behaviors and clinico-patho- logic aspects. Aim of the Work: This study will review the clinico-pathologic aspects of sex-cord stromal ovarian tumors at the National Cancer institute (NCI), Cairo University, Egypt, as well as their management and follow-up regarding disease free survival and overall survival. Patients and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at the National Cancer institute Cairo University, Egypt on female patients with ovarian sex cord stromal tumors in the period from January 2008 to December 2012 with a follow-up period of 24 to 84 months. The age of the patients, different clinical presentations, radiological findings, associated uterine bleeding (need for endometrial biopsy), pre-operative CA125 levels, surgical management done, different histopathological types, different biological behaviors, presence of ascites (and its correlation with the histopathology), Adjuvant chemotherapy (according to biological behavior and pathological type), and follow-up of non-benign cases for up to 84 months will all be documented and studied. Results: The mean age at presentation was 47.34;abdominal pain and mass were the commonest presentations 54.5% and 53.2% respectively;the main radiologic findings were a pelvic mass +/- ascites which had no correlation to the pathological type (p = 0.075). Endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial carcinoma were associated with 22% and 2.5% of cases respectively. Stages I and II represented 95% of patients with non-benign tumors (48 patients). Panhysterectomy +/- infracolic omentectomy or fertility sparing surgery were done in 70.1% and 29.9% of patients respectively. AGCTs were the commonest pathological type (49.4%). Adjuvant chemotherapy was given to 14 patients (46.7%) with non-benign tumors. 6 recurrences (20%) in 30 patients with non-benign tumors on regular follow-up were documented. The med

Critical Materials institute develops new acid-free magnet recycling process
