This paper presents an adaptive gain-scheduled backstepping control(AGSBC) scheme for the balance control of an underactuated mechanical power-line inspection(PLI) robotic system with two degrees of freedom and a single control input.First, a nonlinear dynamic model of the balance adjustment process of the PLI robot is constructed, and then the model is linearized at a nominal equilibrium point to overcome the computational infeasibility of the conventional backstepping technique. Second, to solve generalized stabilization control issue for underactuated systems with multiple equilibrium points,an equilibrium manifold linearized model is developed using a scheduling variable, and then a gain-scheduled backstepping control(GSBC) scheme for expanding the operational area of the controlled system is constructed. Finally, an adaptive mechanism is proposed to counteract the impact of external disturbances. The robust stability of the closed-loop system is ensured by Lyapunov theorem. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and high performance of the proposed scheme compared with other control schemes.

Availability is a main feature of design and operation of all engineering system. Recently,availability evaluation of periodical inspection systems with different structures is at the center of attention due to the wide application in engineering. In this paper, an analytical and probabilistic availability model for periodical inspection system is proposed by a new recursively algorithm,which can achieve limiting average availability and instantaneous availability of periodical inspection system under arbitrary lifetime and repair-time distributions. Then three application examples are presented, the systems lifetime and repair-time are respectively fellow exponential/exponential,Weibull/normal and Weibull/lognormal distribution. Finally, a Weibull/lognormal system is studied to analyze the dynamic relationship between inspection period and availability. The results indicate that the proposed approach can provide the technology support for improving system availability and determining reasonable inspection period.

A periodic inspection policy for a single component system based on a three-stage failure process is proposed, and two different kinds of failures covering "hard" and "human" are considered in the proposed policy.The system is periodically inspected and inspections are perfect so that they can identify the intended defect.If the severe defect is detected by an inspection, an immediate repair is needed. However, once the system is identified to be in the minor defective state, there are two options. The first is to do nothing till the arrival of identifying the severe defect or hard failure, and the second is to repair immediately. Repair for any defect can renew the system with a limited probability such that the system may fail after repair due to human errors, which is common in many industrial applications. Two models are constructed by minimizing the expected cost per unit time and compared. We provide a numerical example to demonstrate the proposed model.

In recent years,there are many crimes related drug fraud occuring in China and many experts think that the main cause is that China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA)adopts announced inspection (AI).In order to circumvent this difficulty,CFDA has exploited unannounced inspection (UI)since 2014.In this paper,the authors study the problem of which one performs better, AI or UI.Specifically,the authors consider a supervisor,which decides the inspection approach,inspection strength and punishment to force the firm to put self-inspection effort to meet the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice,and a firm,which produces a drug and decides its self-inspection effort. The authors use game theory to model this problem,characterize the equilibrium policies under AI, and compare the effects of the two approaches on preventing drug fraud under complete and incomplete information.The results show that under the complete information,UI performs better if the firm's technical level and the inspection cost are low and AI performs better otherwise.When the supervisor doesn't know the firm's technical level,if the low technical level is high,AI performs better.Otherwise, UI performs better if the inspection cost is low and AI performs better if the inspection cost is high.

We develop and build a new type of inspection car.A beam that is not rigidly connected to the train axle boxes and can absorb the vibration and impact caused by the high speed train is used,and a laser-camera measurement system based on the machine vision method is adopted.This method projects structural light onto the track and measures gauge and longitudinal irregularity.The measurement principle and model are discussed.Through numerous practical experiments,the rebuilt car is found to considerably eliminate the measurement errors caused by vibration and impact,thereby increasing measurement stability under high speeds.This new kind of inspection cars have been used in several Chinese administration bureaus.

Objective:To investigate the feasibility of ultrasonic diagnosis for monitoring fracture healing. Methods:Thirty rabbit models with fraction of mandible body were established by surgically removing partial lower jawbone.At the 1st,2nd,4th,6th,8th and 12th week after the operation, they were examined by X-ray and ultrasound,respectively.All detection results were scored according to a generally accepted standard.Spearman rank correlation analysis was conducted to explore the relationship between the results of the two inspection methods.Results:In each healing stage,the results of the ultrasonic inspection were basically consistent with those of the X-ray examination,as supported by a Spearman rank correlation coefficient of 0.892(Pinspection can be used instead of X-ray examination to monitor and diagnose fracture healing.

Specular and strong reflections are the main problems encountered during part image defect inspection of shiny or highly reflective surfaces. In this letter, we propose an improved illumination method for defect inspection. A diffuse light source is designed based on the physics analysis of light reflection. The distribution of intensity is simulated according to a known model to verify the illumination uniformity of the source. Experiments show that defect expressivity when using the proposed illumination method has a better performance. The optical model is not only suitable for the defect detection of metal balls but also for the defect detection of planes and cylinders.
