Summary What is already known about this topic?Prior research has primarily concentrated on occupational health concerns,including injuries and heatstroke,among couriers.Nevertheless,there has been a scarcity of emphasis on mental health aspects,with existing studies predominantly addressing the risk factors associated with occupational stress.What is added by this report?The present study demonstrated a significant association between occupational stress and well-being among couriers,with positive coping strategies acting as a mediating factor.Furthermore,the results indicate that implementing a positive coping style may mitigate the impact of occupational stress on well-being.What are the implications for public health practice?Future public policy initiatives should focus on promoting the well-being of couriers by fostering improvements in the workplace environment,reevaluating the organization of work,and delivering support to couriers in managing occupational stress.

Currently approved therapeutical strategies for inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD)suffer from variable efficacy and association with risk of serious side effects.Therefore,efforts have been made in searching for alternative therapeutics strategies utilizing gut microbiota manipulation.In this study,we show that the probiotic strain Ligilactobacillus salivarius Li01(Li01)and the phytochemical prebiotic resveratrol(RSV)have synergistic effect in ameliorating colitis in mice.Oral coadministration of Li01(109 CFU/d)and RSV(1.5 g/kg/d)promoted restoration of various inflammatory injuries and gut microbiota composition,exhibiting a favorable anti-inflammatory effect in DSS-induced colitis mice.The combination treatment was associated with reductions in the levels of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1βand IL-6 and increases in the levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-17A in mouse serum.Moreover,the combination treatment was found to alter the composition and metabolism of the gut microbiota,especially influencing the production of short chain fatty acids and anti-inflammatory related molecules.The mechanism underlying the improved anti-inflammatory effect from the RSV and Li01 combination treatment was found to be associated with the environmental sensor mammalian aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AHR)and tryptophan metabolism pathway.Administration of RSV in combination with Li01 in different mouse model led to enhanced conversion of RSV into metabolites,including dihydroresveratrol(DHR),resveratrol-sulfate,and resveratrol-glucuronide.DHR was found to be the dominant metabolite of RSV in conventional and colitis mice.An increased DHR/RSV ratio was confirmed to activate AHR and contribute to an enhanced anti-inflammatory effect.DHR is considered as a potential AHR ligand.The DHR/RSV ratio also affected the serotonin pathway by controlling the expression of Tph1,SERT,and 5-HT7R leading to amelioration of colitis in mice.Our data suggest that treatment with a combination of Li01 and RSV has potential as a therapeutic strategy fo

Bone regeneration is a multifaceted,abstract,and wellcoordinated physiological progression of bone formation that participates in continuous regeneration and remodeling throughout life.However,when it comes to complex clinical situations requiring extensive bone regeneration,such as massive bone defects caused by injuries,infection,or tumor removal,traditional methods do not often yield good treatment strategies or protocols due to their limitations.

1.Introduction For decades,substantial disagreement has persisted as to whether dynamic knee valgus is the cause of the majority of anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)injuries or rather the result of the ACL rupture.1 Consequently,great effort and expense has gone into capturing 3-dimensional kinetics and kinematics from live athletes to drive in vitro and in silico models of ACL injury in order to elucidate the actual mechanism of injury,as these factors have been demonstrated to be surrogates of intraarticular structural loading on the ACL.2,3 The elucidation of injury mechanisms for non-contact ACL injuries is of great medical value as such knowledge consequently permits quantified examination and validation of interventions and their respective effectiveness in both prevention and rehabilitation of these traumatic knee injuries.

Background Globally,are skincare practices and skin injuries in extremely preterm infants comparable?This study describes skin injuries,variation in skincare practices and investigates any association between them.Methods A web-based survey was conducted between February 2019 and August 2021.Quantifying skin injuries and describing skincare practices in extremely preterm infants were the main outcomes.The association between skin injuries and skincare practices was established using binary multivariable logistic regression adjusted for regions.Results Responses from 848 neonatal intensive care units,representing all geographic regions and income status groups were received.Diaper dermatitis(331/840,39%)and medical adhesive-related skin injuries(319/838,38%)were the most common injuries.Following a local skincare guideline reduced skin injuries[medical adhesive-related injuries:adjusted odds ratios(aOR)=0.63,95%confidence interval(CI)=0.45–0.88;perineal injuries:aOR=0.66,95%CI=0.45–0.96;local skin infections:OR=0.41,95%CI=0.26–0.65;chemical burns:OR=0.46,95%CI=0.26–0.83;thermal burns:OR=0.51,95%CI=0.27–0.96].Performing skin assessments at least every four hours reduced skin injuries(abrasion:aOR=0.48,95%CI=0.33–0.67;pressure:aOR=0.51,95%CI=0.34–0.78;diaper dermatitis:aOR=0.71,95%CI=0.51–0.99;perineal:aOR=0.52,95%CI=0.36–0.75).Regional and resource settings-based variations in skin injuries and skincare practices were observed.Conclusions Skin injuries were common in extremely preterm infants.Consistency in practice and improved surveillance appears to reduce the occurrence of these injuries.Better evidence regarding optimal practices is needed to reduce skin injuries and minimize practice variations.

Peripheral nerve injuries may result in severe long-gap interruptions that are challenging to repair.Autografting is the gold standard surgical approach for repairing long-gap nerve injuries but can result in prominent donor-site complications.Instead,imitating the native neural microarchitecture using synthetic conduits is expected to offer an alternative strategy for improving nerve regeneration.Here,we designed nerve conduits composed of high-resolution anisotropic microfiber grid-cordes with randomly organized nanofiber sheaths to interrogate the positive effects of these biomimetic structures on peripheral nerve regeneration.Anisotropic microfiber-grids demonstrated the capacity to directionally guide Schwann cells and neurites.Nanofiber sheaths conveyed adequate elasticity and permeability,whilst exhibiting a barrier function against the infiltration of fibroblasts.We then used the composite nerve conduits bridge 30-mm long sciatic nerve defects in canine models.At 12 months post-implant,the morphometric and histological recovery,gait recovery,electrophysiological function,and degree of muscle atrophy were assessed.The newly regenerated nerve tissue that formed within the composite nerve conduits showed restored neurological functions that were superior compared to sheaths-only scaffolds and Neurolac nerve conduit controls.Our findings demonstrate the feasibility of using synthetic biophysical cues to effectively bridge long-gap peripheral nerve injuries and indicates the promising clinical application prospects of biomimetic composite nerve conduits.

INTRODUCTION Pediatric surgical interventions may represent more than one-third of the surgical caseload in humanitarian settings.1 The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has taken a devastating toll on children,many of whom have suffered injuries due to indiscriminate and heavy bombardment,resulting in severe polytraumatic injuries necessitating immediate and specialized pediatric surgical intervention.The conflict has strained the region's fragile healthcare system,resulting in a significant number of casualties,a substantial proportion of which are children.This exacerbates the demand for specialized pediatric surgical care,especially when the existing healthcare system and infrastructure has nearly collapsed and is under-resourced to handle the influx of pediatric patients.2 The urgency for specialized pediatric surgical care and support for children in Gaza cannot be overstated.Access to healthcare in Palestine has been an ongoing challenge.

Cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)are responsible for 30%of all deaths globally.Coronary heart disease(CHD),is the most common form of CVD,accounting for 46%of male and 38%female cardiovascular deaths.1 CHD is characterized by chronic inflammation and endothelial injuries in coronary arteries,and subsequent development of atherosclerotic plaques which eventually leads to myocardial ischemia.

Stem/progenitor cells are important for salivary gland development, homeostasis maintenance, and regeneration following injury.Keratin-14^(+)(K14^(+)) cells have been recognized as bona fide salivary gland stem/progenitor cells. However, K14 is also expressed in terminally differentiated myoepithelial cells;therefore, more accurate molecular markers for identifying salivary stem/progenitor cells are required. The intraflagellar transport(IFT) protein IFT140 is a core component of the IFT system that functions in signaling transduction through the primary cilia. It is reportedly expressed in mesenchymal stem cells and plays a role in bone formation. In this study, we demonstrated that IFT140 was intensively expressed in K14^(+)stem/progenitor cells during the developmental period and early regeneration stage following ligation-induced injuries in murine submandibular glands. In addition, we demonstrated that IFT140^(+)/K14^(+)could self-renew and differentiate into granular duct cells at the developmental stage in vivo. The conditional deletion of Ift140 from K14^(+)cells caused abnormal epithelial structure and function during salivary gland development and inhibited regeneration. IFT140 partly coordinated the function of K14^(+)stem/progenitor cells by modulating ciliary membrane trafficking. Our investigation identified a combined marker, IFT140^(+)/K14^(+), for salivary gland stem/progenitor cells and elucidated the essential role of IFT140 and cilia in regulating salivary stem/progenitor cell differentiation and gland regeneration.
