Medicine is mainly categorized into traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） from the east and western medicine from the west. The abundant practical experiences and classical medical theories in ancient China show that TCM not only studies the diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis of diseases but also focuses on prevention before disease onset and rehabilitation after therapy. These factors are characterized by the application of treatment methods, including prescription, acupuncture, and moxibustion. By comparison, western medicine utilizes modern instruments and standardized index analytical tools to evaluate diseases and perform quantitative and qualitative research in biological mor- phology and local positioning of life and disease. Therefore, TCM and western medicine are two different medical systems with respective advantages.

Pathogen-associated molecular patterns(PAMPs)are recognized by host-encoded,cell-surface-localized,pattern-recognition receptors.In plants,pattern-recognition receptors consist of two kinds of proteins,the receptor-like kinases(RLKs)and the receptor-like proteins(RLPs).Compared with RLKs,RLPs lack an intracellular kinase domain,thus requiring co-receptors to initiate intracellular immune responses.PAMP recognition by RLKs with extracellular leucine-rich repeat(LRR)domains has been extensively studied,with structures of several PAMP-RLK pairs solved;however,the mechanism of how RLPs are activated is not well understood.

Mammalian embryo development is initiated by intracellular Ca2＋ oscillations that result in oocyte activation following gamete membrane fusion. It is widely believed that oocyte Ca2＋ oscillations are triggered by a sperm-specific protein, phospholipase C-zeta （PLCζ） that activates InsP3 production leading to repetitive Ca2. release from intracellular stores. However, a recent report in the FASEB Journal by Aarabi et al. challenges this view by proposing postacrosomal WW domain-binding protein （PAWP） as another sperm-derived protein that can also initiate Ca2＋ oscillations and zygotic development at fertilization. Here we discuss these new findings and examine the evidence suggesting PAWP as the ＂real＂ sperm factor.

Flagellin,the main component of bacterial flagella,is a well-known pathogen-associated molecular pattern(PAMP)that can be recognized by the cell surface-localized Toll-like receptor 5(TLR5)and the cytosolic NOD-like receptor protein 4(NLRC4)inflammasome receptor NAIP5/6.1 Hosts can detect flagellated bacteria using the dual sensors,TLR5 and NAIP5/6,to recognize flagellin,and these sensors then initiate innate immune responses to protect the host from bacterial infection.Recognition by extracellular TLR5 can trigger the MyD88-dependent signaling pathway and activate nuclear factorκB,leading to the upregulation of several proinflammatory cytokines.

In this paper,the technology of objective fabric measurement is applied to arange of pure silk fabrics produced in the Suzhou area of China,including fabricstyles or qualities such as paj,habotai.georgette,crepe de chine,crepe satin andsilk twill in nominal weights ranging from 21 to 82g/ m2 .The instrumentally mea-sured properties of the finished silk fabrics are represented graphically in the form ofbar charts and are discussed in terms of fabric weight,thickness,tensile properties,shear,bending,compression,surface friction and surface geometry.The mean valueand range for the pure silk finished fabrics are reported for selected fabric low stressmechanical and surface parameters. Using the fabric low stress mechanical and surface property measurements re-ported in this paper,the quality characteristics of finished silk fabrics are evaluatedobjectively and compared.The measurements initiate what could become an impor-tant data base for the objective evaluation of finished pure。silk fabrics produced
