The practical applications of Li-ion batteries(LIBs)are challenged by their safety concerns when using liquid electrolytes(LEs).Solid-state gel polymer electrolytes(GPEs)can address this challenge and have drawn increased attention recently.Normally,GPEs are prepared separately and then assembled into cells,which undoubtedly result in dissatisfactory solid/solid interfacial compatibility and low ionic conductivity.Fortunately,in situ GPEs are proposed to address the above challenges and simplify the preparation process.Typically,LE precursor is injected into the cells and gradually transformed into a quasisolid gel state under the conditions of thermal or chemical initiators.Consequently,the obtained in situ GPEs could fully infiltrate the electrode and better interface contact of gel electrolyte/electrode is thus inherited.In this review,the authors focus on the in situ GPEs used in lithium batteries(LBs),and summarize recent progress of the design,synthesis,and applications of in situ GPEs.Based on the different ways of triggering polymerization,there are mainly three methods:thermochemical gelation,polymerization by additional chemical initiators,and cross-linking initiated by Li O bond.Composite GPEs based on in situ solidification method are introduced as a promising strategy to improve the electrochemical performances.Finally,up-to-date research progresses are discussed,and perspectives are provided on the development and challenges of in situ GPEs to meet the requirements for their practical applications in LBs.

in situ preparation and the characterization of Pt/SnO_2

To enhance the cycling stability of Pt-based catalysts,the anti-corrosion property of support and the attachment of Pt with support should both get improved.For this purpose,a novel method is presented for in situ preparing Pt/SnO_2.The structure of Pt/ SnO_2 is characterized by X-ray diffraction（XRD） and transmission electron microscopy（TEM）,confirming the homogeneous deposition of Pt on SnO_2.The high resolution TEM（HRTEM） shows the large interfaces between Pt and SnO_2.The TEM photos recorded after accelerated durability tests with Pt/SnO_2 show that the agglomeration and size increment of Pt particles is not severe, indicating the good stability of Pt/SnO_2.The electrochemical active surface area（EAS） of Pt/SnO_2 keeps increasing during the 1000 cycles of cyclic voltammetric（CV） sweeping in H_2SO_4,while the EAS decayed by 35%when mixing Pt/SnO_2 with carbon nanotubes（CNTs）,indicating the superior anti-corrosion property of SnO_2 in contrast to CNTs.

Simple synthesis of silver nanocluster composites AgNCs@PE-g-PAA by irradiation method and fluorescence detection of Cr^(3+)

Silver nanoclusters(AgNCs)are a new type of nanomaterials with similar properties to molecules and unique applications.The applications of AgNCs can be significantly expanded by combining them with different matrix materials to obtain AgNC composites.Using irradiation techniques,we developed a simple two-step method for preparing silver nanocluster composites.First,polyacrylic acid(PAA)chains were grafted onto the surface of a PE film as templates(PE-g-PAA).Subsequently,silver ions were reduced in situ on the surface of the template material to obtain the AgNC composites(AgNCs@PE-g-PAA).The degree of AgNC loading on the composite film was easily controlled by adjusting the reaction conditions.The loaded AgNCs were anchored to the carboxyl groups of the PAA and wrapped in the graft chain.The particle size of the AgNCs was only 4.38±0.85 nm,with a very uniform particle size distribution.The AgNCs@PE-g-PAA exhibited fluorescence characteristics derived from the AgNCs.The fluorescence of the AgNCs@PE-g-PAA was easily quenched by Cr^(3+)ions.The composite can be used as a fluorescence test paper to realize visual detection of Cr^(3+).
