In an effort to find out how Nabokov manages to achieve aesthetic immortality in Speak Memory,a detailed text analysis is conducted on the techniques he has ***,it draws the conclusion that Nabokov,firmly grounded on his own con⁃sciousness,manages to command memory with the help of imagination,thus,transforming this recreation of memory into a work of aesthetic eternity.

immortality and tumorigenicity are two distinct characteristics of cancers. Immortalization has been suggested to precede tumorigenesis. To understand the molecular mechanisms of tumorigenicity and cancer progression in mammary epithelium, we established a tumori- genic cell model by means of heavy-ion radiation of an immortal cell model, which was created by overexpressing the human telomerase reverse transcriptase （hTERT） in normal human mammary epithelial cells. We examined the expression profile of this tumorigenic cell line （T hMEC） using the hTERT-overexpressing immortal cell line （IhMEC） as a control. In-depth RNA-seq data was generated by using the next-generation sequencing （NGS） platform （Life Technologies SOLID3）. We found that house-keeping （HK） and tissue-spe- cific （TS） genes were differentially regulated during the tumorigenic process. HK genes tended to be activated while TS genes tended to be repressed. In addition, the HK genes and TS genes tended to contribute differentially to the variation of gene expression at different RPKM （gene expression in reads per exon kilobase per million mapped sequence reads） levels. Based on transcriptome analysis of the two cell lines, we defined 7053 differentially-expressed genes （DEGs） between immortality and tumorigenicity. Differential expression of 20 manually-selected genes was further validated using qRT-PCR. Our observations may help to further our understanding of cellular mechanism（s） in the transition from immortalization to tumorigenesis.

The Symbolic Meanings of Roses in Shakespeare’s Sonnets

The paper explores the symbolic meanings of roses in Shakespeare’s sonnets. In Shakespeare’s 154 sonnets, therose imagery is placed in a dominant position among all the other flower imagery. In general, rose is one of themost conventional images in the sonnet. But in addition to the traditional symbol of beauty and love, rose in thesonnet shows more symbolic meanings: a symbol of vitality and reproduction, a symbol of friendship and devotion,and a symbol of fidelity and immortality. The symbolic rose, to a great extent, reflects the Renaissance humanistShakespeare’s values and ideals of humanism. By successfully employing the rose imagery, Shakespeare extols thevirtues of reproduction, displays his faith in the immortality of his verse, and conveys the message of appreciatingand cherishing the beauty, goodness, and truth.

An observer at Iguazu Falls tries to make sense of the inexpressible natural wonder through the texts of Jorge Luis Borges＇s essays and poems. Borges＇s paradoxes of time, immortality, and eternity give meaning to the vision, while the natural wonder gives substance to those idealist concepts derived from Berkeley. As a reader of Borges＇s fictions, I yield up my personal identity to an impersonal dreaming consciousness that resembles Berkeley＇s mind as a consciousness sustaining the reality I perceive. Borges writes in his poem ＂Dawning＂ that ＂ideas are not like marble, everlasting, but ever-renewing like a forest or a river＂. The cataracts of Iguazu are both eternal and immortal, eternal in the sense of removing our consciousness of time and confusing past, present, and future in constant repetition, and immortal in the sense of only existing in individual drops of water constantly disappearing and renewing in infinite repetition. The cataracts are perfect emblems of this immortality. The cataracts are time, infinite moments of immortality, moving forward, accelerating, repeating themselves identically, until they achieve a certain eternity, no motion, suspended in time. I am Berkeley＇s Eternal Spirit, the consciousness evoked by Borges in his essay, ＂A New Refutation of Time＂. Distance from the immediate impact of the Falls helps transform fear and horror into sublimity. The closer to the Falls, the more the observer feels fear and anguish at his own insignificance, a fear of annihilation. Aesthetic distance requires an image or word, something that exempts us from immediate contact, and allows us to descend into the whirlpool and come back to the calm surface. The vision evoked in writing and reading fiction is both prior and subsequent to the reading. Our vision of the universe is always inexpressible, a problem of accommodating something overwhelming to the limited schemata we use to grasp existence.

The origin of Mongolian version of Alexander Romance has long been a confused issue. Nicholas Poppe, Francis Cleaves, and T. Namjil wrote articles about this, and assumed the Mongolian version of Alexander Romance was translated from Central Asian countries, more likely, Persian or Arabic, did not come up with determinate conclusion, though. In this paper, the authors aim at：（1） comparing the Mongolian version of Alexander Romance with the folktales about Alexander the Great in Persian language, which two are supposed to be the nearest; （2） analyzing the story structure （quest for immortality-denying the desire; belief of living forever-the truth of one must die）; and （3） explaining the background of Mongolian version of Alexander Romance, and as a result, arguing that the Mongolian version of Alexander Romance might not be a translated work; instead, it was edited and recreated in Buddhist thinking using the prevailing motif of Alexander＇s quest for immortality.

The limit and the problem of modern religion and science are due to the materialistic, mechanistic, and dichotomous thought that separates humanity from God, spirit from body and I from you. Indicating that the methodology is wrong, the author will suggest an alternative to solve its problem. In the body, the author will introduce the paranormal phenomena focusing on the descending of the Holy Spirit by the Victor on NRMs in Korea. The author will speak of the differences between Aura and the light of the Holy Spirit using some new methodologies of participant observation by film photo-graphing and interviewing testimonies from fieldwork. Furthermore the author attempted to research scientifically how the light of life emitted from the Victor influences humanity and all things. The author will tell the theory of bio scientific and biblical salvation and immortality based on somatic. This paper will contribute in revealing the invisible God and the Holy Spirit to be physically seen.
