Imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines are recognized to exhibit a broad range of applications in pharmaceuticals and optoelectronics. Several commercially available drugs have the imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines motif in their core structure, for example, the sedative Zolpidem, the anxiolytic Alpidem or Saripidem, or the heart failure drug *** the past decades, significant efforts have been made for the construction of substituted imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine *** part of our continued interest in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and green chemistry, Herein we report the possible use of water as an efficient medium to introduce Sulfenylation of imidazoheterocycles under ligand or additive free conditions at 120 ℃ under air(Fig.1).

Imidazoheterocyclic derivatives have been found to be key structural units in many natural products and drugs which exhibited a wide range of biological ***,the biological profile is mainly dependent on the nature of the substitutional groups and introduction of sulfenyl groups on the aza-aromatic rings that could impart marked biological ***,the synthesis of sulfenated imidazoheterocyclic molecules has gained much *** report herein an efficient iodine-triphenylphosphine mediated synthesis of sulfenated imidazoheterocycles using sodium sulfinates as sulfenylation reagents under transition-metal-free conditions.A wide range of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives with both electron-donating and electron-with-drawing groups were tested and the corresponding sulfenyl imidazoheterocycles were obtained in good to excellent *** scope of the methodology has been extended to other imidazoheterocycles including imidazo[2,1-b]thiazoles,imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidines and 2-phenylbenzo[d]imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole derivatives.
