Overcoming Adversity:The Severe COVID-19 illness experience

This viral outbreak of the novel SARS-CoV-2 has profoundly disrupted lives globally and has placed unparalleled burdens on individual physical and psychological *** is imperative to comprehend the psychological journey of COVID-19 patients to provide them with effective *** study aimed to explore the psychological illness experience of severe COVID-19 survivors from the first symptoms,to hospitalization,recovery,and post-discharge ***-structured interviews were conducted from November 2022 to April 2023,with 30 Romanian former COVID-19 *** analysis of transcribed interviews identified four major themes:(1)a distant threat;(2)the tipping point;(3)the turning point;and(4)readjustment and *** participants faced denial or uncertainty early on,misattributing symptoms and delaying seeking *** as a last resort brought anxiety,isolation,and closer confrontations with mortality *** symptoms improved,and participants received supportive care from both healthcare professionals and family members,hope and optimism *** health improvements and feelings of safety,lingering anxiety ***-discharge adjustment involved managing lasting effects and selectively resuming *** some of the participants,reflection afterward prompted greater self-understanding,empathy and connection,and motivation for *** results have implications for healthcare practitioners,policymakers,and researchers.

This study explored the experience of illness in relation to self-image,biographical disruption,and the process of coping through semi-structured interviews with students of a university in *** students were recruited under three categories,having a physical chronic illness,mental health illness,and chronic multiple ***-depth interviews were conducted and content analyses were applied to their recordings to identify major themes and subordinate themes in the illness *** showed a distorted sense of self and biographical disruptions in young adulthood were common,as reported by the *** tried to cope with these disruptions with both individual strengths and social support,but not always with positive *** of self,in the analysis of illness experiences,was found a crucial strategy in overcoming *** support of evaluative nature facilitated the adoption of the reconstruction strategy.A network-building approach is recommended for student servi es in higher education whereas further research is necessary to understand the processes of self-reconstruction.
