By introducing a host molecule cucurbit[8]uril(CB[8]) into a charge transfer system containing an amphiphile 1-[11-(naphthalene-2-ylmethoxy)-11-oxoundecyl]pyridinium(NP) and an electron-deficient molecule methyl viologen(MV), a novel and anisotropic ternary building block was constructed by hostguest interactions, thereby leading to the morphology transformation of the final assemblies from thinfilms(NP/MV complexes) into diamond-like structures(NP/MV/CB[8] complexes). These intriguing assemblies were firstly discovered and were similar with the shape of well-known metal organic frameworks(MOFs), but just comprised three small organic molecules without metal ions. This finding can enrich the shape of current supramolecular assemblies and thus contributing to more potential applications in material science.

Based on the combination of B21C7/dialkylammonium salt host-guest interactions and tetraphenylethylene （TPE）-based aggregation-induced emission （AIE） effect, a fluorescent supramolecular crosslinked polymer gel was successfully prepared. Compared with the solution of TPE-containing small molecules, this gel exhibited remarkable fluorescence enhancement due to the AIE effect of TPE units. The ＂gelation induced fluorescence emission＂ phenomenon can be explained by the hindered intramolecular rotation of phenyl rings of TPE. Because of the reversibility and stimuli-responsiveness of the B21C7/dialkylammonium salt host-guest interactions, the transition between the fluorescent supramolecular crosslinked polymer gel and the disassembled sol with very weak fluorescence can be realized by adding pH and thermal stimuli. This novel material contributes to the development of supramolecular chemistry, polymer science and fluorescent materials and offers a new method to construct functional supramolecular materials.

High-efficiency thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF) emitters and corresponding well-designed solution-processed organic light emitting diodes(OLEDs) are presently attractive due to their potential for exploiting large-area flexible displays. In this context, we innovatively integrate 2,12-di-tert-butyl-5,9-dioxa-13b-boronaphtho [3,2,1] anthracene as the acceptor with 3,6-bis(3,6-di-tert-butylcarbazol-N-yl) carbazole as the donor to construct a rigid deep-blue emitter, TB-3t BuCz, which exhibits a narrow emission with full-width-at-half-maximum(FWHM) of 46 nm. TB-3t BuCz itself dispalys no TADF characteristics both in solution or in pure film states. However, the significant TADF behavior can be observed when TB-3t BuCz is doped with 2,6-DCzPPy host due to the formation of exciplex-like species in 2,6-DCzPPy/TB-3t BuCz system. It is also found that the discernible spin-flip of triplet excitons is feasible when the S1/T1states of the formed exciplex stay slightly lower than S1 and T1states of TB-3t BuCz for the other host/TB-3t BuCz systems. Eventually, thanks to the synergetic effect of rigid structure and favorable photophysical properties of TB-3t BuCz, the solution-processed OLEDs based on 2,6-DCzPPy/TB-3t BuCz as emitting layer has achieved the significantly improved external quantum efficiency(EQE) of 14.6% with suppressed efficiency *** CIE1931 coordinate of(0.158, 0.052) is typically in deep-blue region. Note that, this EQE value is among the highest echelon of solution-processed OLEDs with deep-blue emission by utilizing boron-containing TADF emitters.

The development of supramolecular hosts which can efficiently encapsulate photosensitizers to improve the photodynamic efficacy holds great promise for cancer ***,we report two perylene diimide-based metallacages that can form stable host–guest complexes with planar conjugated molecules including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and photosensitizers(hypocrellin A).Such host–guest complexation not only prevents the aggregation of photosensitizers in aqueous environments,but also offers fluorescence resonance energy transfer(FRET)from the metallacage to the photosensitizers to further improve the singlet oxygen generation(Φ_(Δ)=0.66).The complexes are further assembled with amphiphilic polymers,forming nanoparticles with improved stability for anticancer *** in vitro and in vivo studies indicate that the nanoparticles display excellent anticancer activities upon light irradiation,showing great potential for cancer photodynamic *** study provides a straightforward and effective approach for enhancing the photosensitivity of conventional photosensitizers via host–guest complexation-based FRET,which will open a new avenue for host–guest chemistry-based supramolecular theranostics.

Researchers have put significant efforts on developing versatile fluorescent polymeric systems due to their promising biological/biomedical labelling, tracking, monitoring, imaging, and diagnostic applications. However, complicated organic/polymeric synthesis or post-modification of these functionalized platforms is still a big obstacle for their further application and thereby provides clear motivation for exploring alternative strategies for the design and fabrication of easily available fluorescent systems. The marriage of supramolecular polymers and fluorescent imaging can provide a facile and dynamic manner instead of tedious and time-consuming synthesis due to the dynamic and reversible nature of noncovalent interactions. Herein, based on water-soluble pillararene/paraquat molecular recognition, we successfully prepare two amphiphilic polypseudorotaxanes which can self-assemble into supramolecular polymersomes in water. These polymersomes can be reversibly destroyed and reformed by tuning the solution p H. Attributed to the aggregation-induced emission of tetraphenylethylene groups,intense fluorescence can be introduced into the obtained supramolecular polymersomes. Furthermore, p H-triggered release of an encapsulated water-insoluble drug(doxorubicin) from the self-assembled fluorescent supramolecular polymersomes is also investigated.

Pillar[n]arenes primarily comprise pillar[5]arenes and pillar[6]arenes, which belong to the new class of supramolecular macrocyclic hosts. Pillar[n]arenes have aroused wide attention because of their highly rigid and symmetrical architectures, controllable cavity size, and wide applications in a wide variety of areas. Although pillar[6]arene is difficult to synthesize, numerous studies have been conducted on it. In this review, the strategies to synthesize and functionalize pillar[6]arenes are investigated *** addition, their host-guest properties in organic solvents and in aqueous solution are described. Moreover, pillar[6]arenes applied in different fields(e.g., molecular recognition, drug release, cancer therapy,and gas separation) are clarified. Hopefully, this study is capable of arousing more attention from increasing scientists to study large-cavity pillar[n]arenes.
