The English language has a very long and complex history,from which we can find that it is an unusual ***,the development of the English language can be divided into two main ***,it was influenced greatly by other languages,then it influences other languages *** paper will focus on the unique change of the English language in its process of an absorber to a spreader,discussing how it was influenced by others after it had formed as an independent language,and how it has influenced others since the late 1600 *** it proves the English an unusual language——there has never been a language so widely influenced by other languages and so widely influencing other languages as ***,the language learners could face the truth of various borrowings in the English language and various English words in many other *** awareness would be a help in the further study of the English language,even other languages.

Three Types of Change-of-State Events in Human Conceptualization:Evidence from the Expansion of Chinese Verbal Compounds

Change-of-state events all involve complex event structures,but still differ in their levels of *** Old Chinese,all types of change-of-state events could be expressed by individual characters,but as Chinese evolved,many change-of-state expressions must resort to verbal *** looking at the change-of-state expressions in different historical periods,this study finds that while the meaning of each character becomes increasingly atomic,the use of verbal compounds has been expanding The most dramatic expansion is seen in the expression of the gradient change of state,followed by the punctual change of state,but is not observed in the durative change-of-state *** with the principle of iconicity,“the durative change-the punctual change-the gradient change”represents a continuum of complexity in human conceptualization,with incremental mental distance between the action and the result *** finding is also widely supported by cross-linguistic data.

Chinese is commonly believed to be an analytic language,but evidence from philological works and cross-linguistic comparisons clearly suggests that various morphological operations existed in Old *** loss of Chinese morphology can be explained by the ideographic nature of Chinese characters:the Chinese language has been evolving in a way that stabilizes the pronunciation of each *** effects of writing systems on language evolution can be widely observed from world languages,while writing per se has been evolving along the path of phonetization driven mainly by borrowings instead of conscious linguistic *** history,language never picked writing systems based on linguistic features;instead,writing systems affect the evolutionary paths of languages:single signs of a writing system stabilize the basic units of the language.

The Sino-Tibetan language family is one of the largest language families in the world,both in terms of number of speakers and in terms of geographic *** includes the majority languages of China and Myanmar,plus minority languages in China,Myanmar,Thailand,Vietnam,and Northeast *** main factors have been involved in the formation of the present-day Sino-Tibetan language family:a shared genetic origin,divergent population movements(*** appearing in the different groups after their split),and language contact(among themselves and with non-Sino -Tibetan languages).Population movements and language contact have in fact generally been two aspects of a single *** paper looks at the history of the development of the Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family from the point of view of population movements and language contact,to show the role language contact has had in the formation of the branch as we know it *** factors have been an important part of the development of the branch from its origin in the central plains of what is now north China,in the valley of the Yellow River,some 6,500 years ago,right up to the present,and are still the main factors in language change today.

本文经由历史语言学及音韵学方法，交叉比对中古与近现代时期的突厥文、维吾尔文、蒙古文、满文及土耳其文等语文，尝试从历史文献、碑铭与当代汉学史家专著里逐一检视“莫缘可汗”汗号的缘起及其实际意义。作者认为，该称谓系启民可汗称颂隋文帝，使其获得重生且生活无虞，进而身膺突厥大可汗之汗位，职是之故，“莫缘”应就是古突厥语“Bay”(富、富裕、富有)一词的汉语音译。然而，相较于“天可汗”此一超越突厥大可汗地位的汗号，“莫缘可汗”汗号显示仅与突厥小可汗汗号一般，既未超越突厥大可汗地位，亦未如突厥大可汗地位，如何能号令北亚游牧世界？有关于此，本文有深入的分析与说明。
