Study on Effects of Human Activities on Rehabilitation of Vegetation on Red Soil in hilly areas

Based on the two long-term experiments on red soil in hilly areas in the southern part of Hunan Province, a study on rehabilitation of natural vegetation in this area has been carried *** results showed that when the more frequently vegetation was cut, the less bio-mass and the fewer the species of the vegetation were year by year, especially the growth of xylophyto. For example,in plot 1 (under annual cutting), the bio-mass of vegetation decreased from 90. 2kg/plot to 45. 0kg/polt, the species of the vegetation decreased from 15 to 4, and the proportion of the xylophyta biomass decreased from 17% to 0.9% in 1991. As for imparata cylindrica var. major during the process of restoration of natural vegetation, applying fertilizer made it reproduced excessively, then eliminate. With frequently cutting, the soil fertility was exhausted gradually and the biomass of Imparata cylindrica decreased sharply, especially under the condition of N fertilizer application.

Restoration technologies of damaged paddy in hilly post-mining and subsidence-stable area of Southwest China

The paddy fields and water storage facilities are seriously damaged by the coal mine subsiding in the hilly post-mining and subsidence-stable areas in China,which make the farmers there being suffered greatly from the lack of water for traditional rice cultivation and daily *** purpose of this paper is to find a method to restore the damaged paddy fields,thereby promoting sustainable development of land resources,and alleviating the contradiction between people and land,as well as creating a more inhabitable *** research methodology included field experiments,cultivated observation,and field *** paper selected the Songzao Mining Area as the research area,and focused on the restoration technologies of damaged paddy fields,through the following four different measures at three experimental fields:(1)Traditional repeated cattle plowing(CK);(2)Water retention agent with repeated cattle plowing(W&C);(3)Film without holes under tilth depth(FO);and(4)Film with holes under tilth depth(FW).At last,a contrastive analysis of the four measures was made according to the results of the *** results show that the use of water retaining agent with repeated cattle plowing(W&C)can be the most appropriate method to restore the damaged paddy field in the hilly post-mining and subsidence-stable area in southwest *** with the other three measures,its water productivity is the maximum(0.81 kg/m3),and the net income is the highest(1403$/hm^(2)).What’s more,it is simple,short time-consuming,and low cost,which is benefit to generalize the use of this restoration technology.

Balance of Water Supply-demand in Paddy Fields in hilly Regions in Sichuan Province

[Objective] The aim was to study the effects of water supply and consumption on water saving and drought resistance. [Method] Controlling field experiment was conducted to explore water balance between supply and demand in paddy fields in hilly regions in Sichuan Province. [Result] Rainfall in hilly areas was 3 611.10 m3/hm2; water for irrigation was 6 299.25 m3/hm2; evapotranspiration of rice was 6 424.95 m3/hm2; deep leakage was 2 459.55 m3/hm2; overflowing amount was 1 026.00 m3/hm2. In addition, water consumption totaled 8 884.50 m3/hm2 during rice production; water use was 0.99 kg/m3 and use efficiency of irrigated water was 1.40 kg/m3. [Conclusion] Water supply and consumption should be further organized to save water and fight against drought in hilly areas in Sichuan Province.
