The photodegradation of 4-chlorobiphenyl in hexane by UV irradiation has been investigated. For the first time, the UV spectral changes of 4-chlorobiphenyl and formation of chloride in the photoreaction have been discussed. The main pathway for the degradation of 4-chlorobiphenyl in hexane was dechlorination to follow a ftrst order kinetics. The products were formed by the cleavage of carbon-chlorine bond to produce a biphenyl free radical, which then abstracted hydrogen from the solvent hexane to form biphenyl. With irradiation, biphenyl was also decomposed to lower hydrocarbons as the final products, which was further confirmed by the degradation experiment of biphenyl.

The absorption spectra of lycopene in n-hexane and CS2 are measured under high pressure and the results are compared with β-carotene. In the lower pressure range, the deviation from the linear dependence on the Bayliss parameter （BP） for β-carotene is more visible than that for lycopene. With the further increase of the solvent BP, the 0-0 bands of lycopene and β-carotene red shift at almost the same rate in n-hexane; however, the 0-0 band of lycopene red shifts slower than that of β-carotene in CS2. The origins of these diversities are discussed taking into account the dispersion interactions and structures of solute and solvent molecules.

We produce multilayer graphene by the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method at atmospheric pressure and 1000°C, using flexible copper substrates as catalyst and liquid hexane as the source of carbon. We designed an optical device to measure the transmittance of the carbon films;with this information we calculate that the approximate number of layers is 11.

Since 1980, organolanthanide chemistry of substituted cyclopentadienyl has been rapidly developed. Many substituted cyclopentadienyl lanthanoid chloride complexes have been synthesized. These sterically bulky ligands, such as-C5Me5, -（Me3Si）2C5H3,-t-BuCp, etc., can stabilize the complexes with low coordination number, especially the complexes of mono-and bin（substituted cyclopentadienyl） lanthanoid chloride. Using cyclopentylcyclopentadienyl as ligand, we synthesized Cp2′ LnCl（THF）n（Cp′=cyclopentylcyclopentadienyl, C5H9C5H4, Ln=Nd, Sm, n=1; Ln=Er, Yb, n=0）.
