Objectives:The objective of the study was to explore the impact of auditory stimulation protocol on auditory response in cerebrovascular stroke(CVS)*** and Methods:A pre-posttest nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental study was conducted at Al Mainal Hospital at Al Kars Einy Hospital,Cairo University,among 60 CVS patients,and the sample was randomly assigned through a coin to allocate subjects to study or control group(30 for each group).Auditory stimulation techniques were applied three times per week for the study group for two consecutive *** in the control group received only routine hospital care during the study *** Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS)score for assessing the neurological function and level of arousal and the auditory subscale score of Western Neuro Sensory Stimulation Profile(WNSSP)for assessing auditory response were recorded and compared between the two groups before and after the ***:There were statistically significant differences between the study group and the control group regarding third reading of GCS score(11.5±0.3 vs.10.6±0.9,t=4.676,P=0.000).The scores of all auditory subscales of WNSSP in the study groups increased after implementing the auditory stimulation protocol(Phearing responses in individuals with CVS.

Abstract: The Nagoya University Hospital otolaryngology department is doing the prospective cohort study in Yakumo-cho, Hokkaido, Japan from 2005, because this place is a little transfer of the population. Most of inhabitants of Yakumo-cho engage in fishery and agriculture as work mainly. We perform questionary survey using an interview vote. The item is “having feeling of dizziness or not”,“quality of hearing” and “having tinnitus or not”. Furthermore, we go for the examination of stabilometry, too. We compared 2015, 2017 with 2005, 2007 among Yakumo-cho inhabitant examination data this time. As a result, participant with a feeling of conscious dizziness got a bad reputation of the hearing consciously. In addition, participant with a feeling of conscious dizziness had tinnitus consciously. Furthermore, the participant with a feeling of conscious dizziness had bad stabilometry result. As a result of having compared ten years later, we understood that stabilometry result worsened if 60s became in 70s with or without a feeling of dizziness consciously. When there is a feeling of conscious dizziness, it is necessary to perform an examination of stabilometry as routine work. In addition, it is necessary to inspect stabilometry if participants have the bad hearing or tinnitus with a feeling of dizziness in particularly.

Based on the measurements from 52 Chinese subjects (26 males and 26 females), a high-spatial-resolution head-related transfer function (HRTF) database with corre- sponding anthropometric parameters is established. By using the database, cues relating to sound source localization, including interaural time difference (ITD), interaural level difference (ILD), and spectral features introduced by pinna, are analyzed. Moreover, the statistical relationship between ITD and anthropometric parameters is estimated. It is proved that the mean values of maximum ITD for male and female are significantly different, so are those for Chinese and western sub- jects. The difference in ITD is due to the difference in individual anthropometric parameters. It is further proved that the spectral features introduced by pinna strongly depend on individual; while at high frequencies (f≥ 5.5 kHz), HRTFs are left-right asymmetric. This work is instructive and helpful for the research on bin- aural hearing and applications on virtual auditory in future.

The tumor suppressor gene liver kinase B1 （LKB1）, also called STKll, encodes a serine/threonine kinase. LKB1 plays crucial roles in cell differentiation, proliferation, and polarity. In this study, LKB1 conditional knockout mice （LKB1pax2 CKO mice） were generated using Pax2-Cre mice to investigate the function of LKB1 in inner ear hair cells during early embryonic period. LKB1Pax2 CKO mice died perinatally. Immunofluorescence and scanning electron microscopy revealed that stereociliary bundles in LKB1Pax2 CKO mice were clustered and misoriented, respectively. Moreover, ectopic distribution of kinocilium bundles resulting from abnormal migration of kinocilium was observed in the mutant mice. The orientation of stereociliary bundles and the migration of kinocilia are critical indicators of planar cell polarity （PCP） of hair cells. LKB1 deficiency in LKB1Pax2 CKO mice thus disrupted hair cell planar polarity during embryonic development. Our results suggest that LKB1 is required in PCP formation in cochlear hair cells in mice.

Assessment of middle ear effusion and audiological characteristics in young children with adenoid hypertrophy

Background Otitis media with effusion is a highly concurrent disease in young children with adenoid hypertrophy. The aim of this study was to assess the middle ear effusion and audiological characteristics in children with adenoid hypertrophy and compare the various assessment methods. Methods Two hundred and seven candidates who were to undergo adenoidectomy were analyzed using otoscopy, tympanometry, air-conduction auditory steady-state responses （AC-ASSR）, and computerized tomography （CT） before adenoidectomy. Results About 73.4% （304/414） of ears were confirmed to have middle ear effusion （MEE） by otoscopy; 75.4% （312/414） of ears revealed M EE by CT. CT scan correctly predicted all the myringotomy results, giving 100% accuracy on the diagnosis of MEE. Additionally, CT revealed two children with inner ear malformations. Type B tracing tympanogram provided a sensitivity of 91.7% and a specificity of 92.2%. Type C tympanogram with peak pressure 〈-200 daPa indicated effusion; type C tympanogram having acoustic stapedius reflex could exclude MEE. We excluded the AC-ASSR results of the 4 ears with malformation; 54.4% （223/410） of ears were confirmed of hearing loss. Furthermore, 5.2% （16/310） of the ears with MEE suffered from severe to profound hearing loss. The average threshold level in the 0.25 kHz frequency of children was found to have poorer hearing thresholds than those in the 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 kHz （P 〈0.001） frequencies; 29.7% （92/310） of ears with MEE were regarded as normal hearing level. About 55.8% （173/310） of ears with MEE were classified as having slight-mild hearing loss. Conclusions The practitioners should pay much attention to the middle ear condition and be aware of a possible development of severe to profound hearing loss during the course of MEE in young children with adenoid hypertrophy. CT scan is good for the assessment of MEE before ventilation tube insertion.
