Introduction: head and neck cancers represent a significant burden of cancer, collectively ranking fourth for cancer incidence and second for cancer mortality worldwide. Objective: To study the epidemiological and histopathological aspects of head and neck cancers in the ENT-CCF department of Ignace Deen National Hospital. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive retrospective study covering a period of 5 years from September 1, 2016, to September 30, 2021. Results: We collected 43 cases of head and neck cancers, representing a hospital frequency of 1.85%. The mean age was 45.21 ± 13.23 years. Males predominated, accounting for 65.12%, compared to 34.88% for females, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.87. Housewives accounted for 27.90%, followed by farmers at 23.26% and traders/merchants at 18.60%, with 41.86% being uneducated. The main risk factors were tobacco (37.21%) and alcohol (34.88%). Pain (53.49%), dysphonia (51.16%), and dyspnea (39.53%) were the main presenting symptoms. Squamous cell carcinoma (74.42%) and large cell lymphoma (18.60%) were the most commonly cited histological types. Conclusion: head and neck cancers remain relatively common in our country. Improving prognosis depends on early diagnosis of the condition, resuscitation resources, and prompt management.

Acquisition repeatability of MRI radiomics features in the head and neck:a dual-3D-sequence multi-scan study

Radiomics has increasingly been investigated as a potential biomarker in quantitative imaging to facilitate personalized diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancer(HNC),a group of malignancies associated with high ***,the feature reliability of radiomics is a major obstacle to its broad validity and generality in application to the highly heterogeneous head and neck(HN)*** particular,feature repeatability of radiomics in magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)acquisition,which is considered a crucial confounding factor of radiomics feature reliability,is still sparsely *** study prospectively investigated the acquisition repeatability of 93 MRI radiomics features in ten HN tissues of 15 healthy volunteers,aiming for potential magnetic resonance-guided radiotherapy(MRgRT)treatment of *** subject underwent four MRI acquisitions with MRgRT treatment position and immobilization using two pulse sequences of 3D T1-weighed turbo spin-echo and 3D T2-weighed turbo spin-echo on a 1.5T MRI *** repeatability of radiomics feature acquisition was evaluated in terms of the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC),whereas within-subject acquisition variability was evaluated in terms of the coefficient of variation(CV).The results showed that MRI radiomics features exhibited heterogeneous acquisition variability and uncertainty dependent on feature types,tissues,and pulse *** a small fraction of features showed excellent acquisition repeatability(ICC>0.9)and low within-subject *** MRI scans improved the accuracy and confidence of the identification of reliable features concerning MRI acquisition compared to simple test-retest repeated *** study contributes to the literature on the reliability of radiomics features with respect to MRI acquisition and the selection of reliable radiomics features for use in modeling in future HNC MRgRT applications.

Background:Myxofibrosarcoma(MFS),especially radiation-Induced MFS(RIMFS)in the head and neck,is an extremely rare malignant fibroblastic *** diagnosis and treatment of MFS remain great *** the present study,we presented one case of *** with previous literature,the clinical features,essentials of diagnosis,and treatment modalities of MFS in the head and neck were reviewed to better understand this rare *** presentation:We reported a case of RIMFS under the left occipital scalp in a 20-year-old girl with a history of medulloblastoma surgery and radiotherapy in 2006.A total tumor resection was performed with preservation of the overlying scalp the underlying bone,and no adjuvant therapy was administered after the first *** postoperative pathological diagnosis was high-grade *** tumor relapsed 6 months later,and then,a planned extensive resection with negative surgical margins was carried out,followed by *** relapse occurred in a 12-month postoperative ***:Planned gross total resection(GTR)with negative margins is the reasonable choice and footstone of other treatments for ***-defined infiltrated borders and the complicated structures make it a great trouble to achieve total resection of MFS in the head and neck,so adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy seem more necessary for these lesions.

A retrospective analysis of pain and opioid usage in head and neck free flap reconstruction

Enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS)protocols have been developed in numerous surgical specialties as a means of systematically improving patient recovery,functional outcomes,cost savings,and resource *** multidisciplinary initiatives seek to minimize variability in several aspects of perioperative patient care,helping to reduce inpatient length of hospital stay,complications,and the overall resource and financial burden of surgical *** and neck oncology patients stand to benefit from the implementation of comprehensive ERAS protocols,as these patients have complex medical needs that may dramatically impact multiple aspects of their recovery,including breathing,eating,nutrition,pain,speech,swallowing,and *** ERAS protocols for head and neck cancer patients may present unique challenges,and require significant interdisciplinary coordination and *** therefore sought to provide a comprehensive guide to the planning and institution of such ERAS systems at institutions undertaking care of head and neck cancer *** elements to consider in the implementation of successful ERAS protocols for this population include organizing a team consisting of frontline leaders such as nursing staff,medical specialists,and associated health professionals;designing interventions based on systematically evaluated,high-quality literature;and instituting a clear methodology for regularly updating protocols and auditing the success or potential limitations of a given *** obstacles to the success of ERAS interventions for head and neck cancer patients include challenges in systematically tracking progress of the protocol,as well as resource limitations in a given health system.

Hemangioma is a common benign vascular tumor,with an incidence of 2%-3% in the neonate and 10%in baby after 1 year.^1 The incidence of hemangiomas is approximately 22%-30% of preterm infants with birthweight less than 1000 g. The development of hemangioma is therefore supposed to be related to various intra- and extra-uterine factors.
