In the geostress measurement for Niba Mountain on Ya＇an-Lugu Expressway, results of Kaiser effect tests combined with focal mechanism solution were compared with those obtained by hydraulic fracturing method, both of which are basically coincident. It is shown that the principal stress increases with burial depth ; the maximum principal stress is about 45 MPa, which is larger near fault zones because of stress concentration, and its direction ranges from N20°W to N75°W.

The?mine geostress measurement is the indispensable key to safe and efficient production of the mine. Currently, stress relief method, hydraulic fracturing method and acoustic emission method are widely used in mine geostress test fields. As deficiencies of the above several methods, the author designed a detailed borehole acoustic program for the tectonic fault conditions of a mine in Huainan, and got geostress parameter values according to the combination of site measured velocity values and laboratory tests.

Tunnelling-induced long-term consolidation settlement attracts a great interest of engineering practice. The distribution and magnitude of tunnelling-induced initial excess pore water pressure have significant effects on the long-term consolidation settlement. A simple and reliable method for predicting the tunnel-induced initial excess pore water pressure calculation in soft clay is proposed. This method is based on the theory of elasticity and SKEMPTON's excess pore water pressure theory. Compared with the previously published field measurements and the finite-element modelling results, it is found that the suggested initial excess pore water pressure theory is in a good agreement with the measurements and the FE results. A series of parametric analyses are also carried out to investigate the influences of different factors on the distribution and magnitude of the initial excess pore water pressure in soft ground.

Stability Analysis of a Borehole Wall Based on ABAQUS

The instability of borehole wall is always a difficult question in drilling borehole progress. It increases the cost of production and prolongs production cycle. So it has a significant research value. Considering the effect of mud pressure and pore pressure on the stability of borehole wall, this paper establishes a math model by applying the two-dimensional bond theory of Biot. It applies the method of the numerical simulation to analyze the effect of mud pressure and pore pressure on the stability of borehole wall. The simulation results show that the mud pressure imposes great influence on stress field and on the deformation of borehole soil, which provides a theoretical basis during the drilling process to avoid the instability of the borehole and to study how to select reasonable mud and mud pressure.
