Asymptotic Analysis and Precoding Design of Integrated Access and Backhaul in full-duplex mmWave Networks

In this paper,we consider a full-duplex(FD)millimeter wave(mmWave)multiuser integrated access and backhaul(IAB)system with massive MIMO,and the system asymptotic performance and interference cancellation schemes are investigated.First,the asymptotic performance of the IAB system with massive MIMO is analyzed.As the number of macro base station(MBS)and small base station(SBS)antennas approaches infinity,the FD selfinterference(SI),inter-tier interference and noise can be eliminated,which means that only multiuser interference remains in the system.Then,multiuser interference can be suppressed by the base band(BB)precoders.Since all interference and noise are suppressed,the spectral efficiency of the SBS and users are infinite in theory.Then,two interference suppression precoding schemes are proposed.A block diagonalization(BD)-based interference cancellation scheme is designed based on the channel characteristics and null space projection.The FD SI,intertier interference and multiuser interference are eliminated by BB precoders.Instead of eliminating interference completely,a signal to leakage and noise ratio(SLNR)-based precoding scheme is derived to suppress both interference and noise.By utilizing the Rayleigh-Ritz theorem,the SLNRs of the SBS and users are optimized.Simulation results show that all the interference can be effectively eliminated by the BD-based scheme at the cost of spectral efficiency performance loss,while the SLNR-based scheme can balance interference and noise and achieve higher spectral efficiency with comparatively low interference level.Therefore,the BD-based scheme is more suitable for interference elimination cases,and the SLNRbased scheme can improve the system performance in low interference scenarios.

In-band full-duplex(FD) communication has been considered as a promising technology to enhance the spectral efficiency(SE) for the next generation of wireless system. However, the severe interference in FD cellular network may largely degrade the system performance, especially for cell edge users. In this paper, multi-cell cellular network consisting of BSs with FD capability and legacy half duplex(HD) users is studied. In order to relieve the received interference and enhance the system SE, a new resource allocation strategy named fractional FD(FFD) is proposed and its main idea and procedure are described as follows.Firstly, the frequency and time resources are partitioned into FD resource blocks(RBs) and HD RBs based on the network topology. Then all the users are classified into two groups named cell center users(CCUs)and cell edge users(CEUs) based on their channel conditions. At last, in each cell, each FD RB is allocated to a pair of CCUs with one in uplink and the other in downlink transmission direction, while only one CEU in the uplink(or downlink) transmission direction is scheduled over each HD RB. Tractable results of both the coverage probabilities and the ergodic rates of FFD, FD and HD systems are derived using stochastic geometry method. Numerical results show that, FFD can significantly improve the coverage probability of all users especially for CEUs compared with FD cellular system, and higher system SE is obtained compared with FD and HD cellular network. With proper design of the classification criterion and under the simulation settings of this paper, the SE of FFD system outperforms FD and HD system by 1.25 and 1.38 times,respectively.

In this paper, the antenna selection problem is investigated for the relaying system with the base station having massive multiple antennas, where the relay station works in the full duplex mode and the two-way protocol. The antenna selection scheme is optimized by maximizing the minimum of the two signal to noise ratios(SNRs) with each corresponding to the uplink and the downlink traffics. With the optimized antenna selection scheme, the approximate probability density function(PDF) of the received SNR for each receiver is derived. In what follows, both the overall outage probability and the bit error rate are obtained in the analytical expression for the whole massive multi-input multi-output(MIMO) system. Moreover, the asymptotic overall outage probability is derived in an analytical expression with respect to the growing number of the antennas on the massive MIMO base station. Numerical simulations verify the derived analytical results.

This paper considers a distributed full duplex relay network where multiple sources simultaneously transmit their signals to multiple destinations via the cooperation of a set of relay stations(RSs). Each RS is assumed to be equipped with large antenna arrays while all sources and destinations only have a single antenna.We assume the channels are Rician fading and the RSs use linear processing to process the signals with imperfect channel state information(CSI). We derive the closed-form expressions of the end-to-end achievable rates for the maximum-ratio combining/matched-filter(MRC/MF) and the zero-forcing(ZF) processing. These results are then used to pursue a detailed analysis of the power saving of the relay network. Then we study the energy-efficiency-aware relay selection strategy since the energy efficiency affects network lifetime in future wireless network. We propose a sub-optimal strategy with low complexity that only requires the statistical CSI.Simulations show that the energy efficiency of the system can be improved with optimal power allocation and our proposed strategy performs very close to the exhaustive search algorithm which is optimal.

In this paper,we study the rate-energy tradeoff for wireless simultaneous in-formation and power transfer in full-duplex and half-duplex scenarios.To this end,the weighting function of energy efficiency and transmission rate,as rate-energy tradeoff metric is first introduced and the metric optimization problem is formulated.Applying Karush-Kuhn-Tucker(KKT)conditions for Lagrangian optimality and a series of mathematical approximations,the metric optimization problem can be simplified.The closed-form solution of the power ratio is obtained,building direct relationship between power ratio and the rate-energy tradeoff metric.By choosing power ratio,one can make the tradeoff between information rate and harvested power in a straightforward and efficient way.Using the method similar to the half duplex systems,the optimal power ratio can be obtained in the full duplex systems,so as to balance the information transmission rate and energy transmission efficiency.Simulation results validate that the information rate is non-increasing with harvested power in half-duplex systems and the tradeoff of information rate and harvested power can be simply made.In the full duplex systems,the power ratio solution of the rate-energy tradeoff metric optimization problem can be used as the approximate optimal solution of the optimization problem and the approximation error is negligible.

By employing a radio frequency(RF) feedback chain, the self-interference can be canceled efficiently in co-time co-frequency full duplex(CCFD). However, the evitable signal crosstalk which is caused by the imperfect RF feedback chain isolation usually damages the self-interference cancelation(SIC) performance. To deal with this problem, firstly, we analyze the impact of RF feedback chain isolation on SIC performance. Then a digital preprocessing scheme with RF feedback chain is proposed in the multiple-antenna CCFD architecture. Using both analytical and experimental methods, we find that the proposed scheme achieves a better performance on SIC.

The fourth generation(4G) mobile communication systems are offering service worldwide steadily.Although 4G systems could be loaded with much more services and data than previous systems, there is still a dramatic gap between the people’s practical requirements and what can be offered by the 4G technologies.Consequently, the research and development for the fifth generation(5G) systems have already been started. This article presents an overview of potential network architecture and highlights several promising techniques which could be employed in the future 5G systems. These techniques include non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA),massive multiple input and multiple output(MIMO), cooperative communications and network coding, full duplex(FD), device-to-device(D2D) communications, millimeter wave communications, automated network organization, cognitive radio(CR), and green communications. The state-of-art and implementation issue of these techniques are also addressed.
