Influences of fiber length and water film thickness on fresh properties of basalt fiber-reinforced mortar

In plain mortar,the water film thickness(WFT)has been found to play a key role in the fresh ***,in fiber-reinforced mortar,the role of WFT has not been investigated *** this research,basalt fibers of different lengths were added to the mortar,and the dynamic and static flowability,cohesiveness,adhesiveness,and packing density were tested to study the effects of fiber length on the packing density and WFT,and the combined effects of fiber length and WFT on the fresh *** results showed that in fiber-reinforced mortar,the WFT also plays a key role,whereas the fiber length exerts its influences through the indirect effects on the packing density and WFT and the direct effect on fiber-mortar ***,an increase in fiber length decreases the packing density and WFT,decreases the dynamic and static flowability needed for placing,increases the cohesiveness needed for avoiding segregation,and,quite unexpectedly,decreases the adhesiveness needed for rendering and spraying *** analysis yielded good correlation of the fresh properties to fiber length and WFT,and best-fit formulas for the mix design for basalt fiber-reinforced mortar were obtained.

Eco Insulation Materials： Reduction of Cooling Loads of a House Made of Breeze Block or Laterite in a Dry Tropical Climate

In this paper, we study the influence ofeco materials for roof insulation and fiber-reinforced mortar coatings on cooling loads of a home in dry tropical climate. The walls of the house are made of cinderblock or laterite and the insulating material of a roof panel is made with lime （24%）, cement （6%）, water （50%） of vegetable fibers hibiscus sabdariffa （16%）, tree widespread in Burkina Faso and sugar cane bagasse （4%）. This panel roof insulation and the fiber-reinforced mortar were characterized at the Laboratory of Physics and Chemistry of the environment by the hot plate method. The building is modeled in TRNSYS using climate data from the city of Ouagadougou. The results obtained show that in the warmer months of the year, that is to say in March and April, the relative differences between heat gains the configurations ＂breeze block-coating mortar and roof not insulated＂ and ＂laterite- fiber-reinforced mortar coating and insulated roof＇ vary between 15.6% and 16.8%. The configuration ＂laterite-fiber-reinforced mortar coating and insulated roof allows a reduction of annual heat gains of 15.5% compared to the configuration ＂breeze block-coating mortar and roof not insulated＂.

Investigation on the improvement of crack resistance of mortar by adding reinforce fibers was dealt with in this paper. It reveals that jute fibers yields better results in comparison with polypropylene, and the smaller the linear density and shorter in length the added fiber, the greater crack resistance of the mortar specimen. The test was carried out by study of the crack developed on the specimen during solidification. The cracks are then classified according to their width, and then the distribution form of the total length of the cracks in each group and the crack index could be obtained. The crack resistance ability is clarified by suggestion of ACI-544.
