The Laughter of Ticklishness Is a Darwinian Feature Related to Empathy in Both Genders: Self-Esteem in Men and Sexism in Women

The theory of false alarm for laughter could explain the involuntary laugh when someone is tickled. To put this hypothesis to the test, we handed out a questionnaire (180 items) with two hundred university students. Our main results are: In women who like being tickled, we discover components related to pleasure, erotism, feeling of affection, arousal, uncontrollability, domination, sexism and Darwinian (golden ratio) and psychological traits (empathy, low schizotypy and external locus of control) that are not present in the laughter at a stumble. The relation of both types of laughter with sense of humor is also differential. In men who like being tickled, we discover components related to masturbation, sexual fantasies, erotism, arousal, domination, sexist humour and Darwinian (square chin, feeling of masculinity) and psychological traits (empathic stress, low schizotypy, external locus of control and overall self-esteem). The relationship between being tickled and self-esteem shows a double aspect in men: It is positive in men who like being tickled and negative in men who do not like being tickled. For women there is not a relationship between self-esteem and tickling. Our conclusion is that laughter of ticklishness is a Darwinian feature related to empathy.

Objectives To investigate the diagnosis of esophageal and gastric varices between multi-slice spiral (MS) CT portography and endoscopy. Methods Fifty-seven patients clinically diagnosed with portal hypertension were underwent MSCT portography by LightSpeed 16 CT scanner. The endoscopic examinations were also carried out in those patients within 3 days. Results The CT portography revealed that 51 patients with esophageal or gastric varices, including 39 patients with both gastric fundal varices and esophagus varix, 9 patients with only esophageal varices, 3 patients with gastric body and gastric fundal varices. While 46 patients were found by endoscopy to have esophageal or gastric varices, including 24 patients with both esophageal and gastric varices, 5 patients with only gastric varices and 17 patients with only esophageal varices. Conclusion The MSCT portography can clearly demonstrate the esophageal and gastric fundal varices, as well as major collateral vessels in portal hypertension patients. There was a certain false positivity in MSCT portography, and they can be used as supplement tests to endoscopy in the diagnosis of esophageal varices. The MSCT portography was more sensitive than endoscopy in diagnosis of gastric varices, and could visualize the para esophageal and para-gastric varices that were not visible to the endoscopy.

The earthquake catalog with the minimum completeness magnitude of ML=1.7 during the period from 1970 to 1976 has been used as basic data for the research on seismic quiescence in source area before occurrence of the July 1976 great Tangshan earthquake in China,based on the analyses of the detectability of seismic network,and of relation between earthquake magnitude and frequency in Northern China.The temporal processes of seismicity rate(January 1970-July 1976)before the July 1976 great Tangshan earthquake for four researched sub regions in and around source area(aftershock area)of the mainshock are investigated and compared.It is found that there exist abnormal seismic quiescence with duration of 38 months in the subregion located in western part of aftershock area,which is significant statistically at confidence level of 0.99 and larger by beta-test.In addition,because there were no false alarms except for the above abnormal interval in the west aftershock area,and the Tangshan mainshock and 85% of
