Aspergillus fumigatus infection is a clinically rare condition. Here we report a case of facial cutaneous Aspergillus fumigatus infection where the skin lesions gradually extended to the eyes forming corneal and conjunctival ulcers that developed to panophthalmia. Fungus cultures were repeatedly performed on specimen from the eyes and from skin lesions. Aspergillus fumigatus was the pathogen identified morphologically and molecular biologically.

Background:Burn-related injury to the face involving the structures of the eyes,eyelids,eyelashes,and/or eyebrows could result in multiple reconstructive procedures to improve functional and cosmetic outcomes,and correct complications following poor acute phase management.The objective of this article was to evaluate if nonsurgical or surgical interventions are best for acute management of ocular and/or peri-ocular burns.Methods:This systematic review and meta-analysis compared 272 surgical to 535 non-surgical interventions within 1 month of patients suffering burn-related injuries to 465 eyes,253 eyelids,90 eyelashes,and 0 eyebrows and evaluated associated outcomes and complications.The PubMed,Embase,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,and Scopus databases were systematically and independently searched.Patient and clinical characteristics,surgical and medical interventions,outcomes,and complications were recorded.Results:Eight of the 14,927 studies queried for this study were eligible for the systematic review and meta-analysis,with results from 33 of the possible 58 outcomes and complications using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis(PRISMA)and Cochrane guidelines.Surgery was associated with standard mean differences(SMD)0.44 greater visual acuity on follow-up,SMD 1.63mm shorter epithelial defect diameters on follow-up,SMD 1.55 mm greater changes in epithelial diameters from baseline,SMD 1.17 mm^(2) smaller epithelial defect areas on follow-up,SMD 1.37 mm^(2) greater changes in epithelial defect areas from baseline,risk ratios(RR)1.22 greater numbers of healed epithelial defects,RR 11.17 more keratitis infections,and a 2.2 greater reduction in limbal ischemia compared to no surgical intervention.Conclusions:This systematic review and meta-analysis found that compared to non-surgical interventions,acute surgical interventions for ocular,eyelid,and/or eyelash burns were found to have greater visual acuity on follow-up,shorter epithelial defect diameters on follow-up,greater changes in e

Advanced endoscopic imaging is revolutionizing our way on how to diagnose and treat colorectal lesions. Within recent years a variety of modern endoscopic imaging techniques was introduced to improve adenoma detection rates. Those include high-definition imaging, dye-less chromoendoscopy techniques and novel, highly flexible endoscopes, some of themequipped with balloons or multiple lenses in order to improve adenoma detection rates. In this review we will focus on the newest developments in the field of colonoscopic imaging to improve adenoma detection rates. Described techniques include high-definition imaging, optical chromoendoscopy techniques, virtual chromoendoscopy techniques, the Third eye Retroscope and other retroviewing devices, the G-eye endoscope and the Full Spectrum Endoscopy-system.

Ocular myiasis due to Oestrus ovis larvae infestation is an eye infection in humans.A case of ophthalmomyiasis externa in a young male from Karachi,Pakistan in winter(December 2012),without history of close proximity to domestic animals or visit to any rural area was reported.The condition is self-limiting and the disease is confined to the conjunctiva.The eye was locally anesthetized and washed with 5%povidine iodine solution.A total number of 27 first instar larvae of Oestrus ovis were removed with fine forceps.The patient received 0.5%moxifloxacin and diclofenac eye drops for one week.His eye was examined after one day,one week and one month and the recovery status was favorable.The present case raise the awareness among ophthalmologists regarding larval conjunctivitis as one of the causes of conjunctivitis and it can occur throughout the year in any season including winter.Moreover,it can occurr in any area either rural or urban with or without close proximity to domestic animals especially in subtropical regions with high parasitic burden.

Advertising evaluation can not only evaluate the subconscious behavior of consumers and help consumers to avoid irrational consumption,but also improve the utilization of advertising resources.To deal with this topic,electroencephalogram(EEG)data and eye movement data from18 subjects is collected.The power spectra of beta band and theta band are used to calculate the EEG attention index,while the eye attention index is calculated by the statistics at fixation on the interesting area.Therefore the fusion attention index is obtained by fusing the EEG signal and eye movement data in the feature level.The results indicate that the memory of the advertisements is synced up with the attention of the products.And the fusion attention index has a higher significant difference than the other two indexes.

Humans depend on the coordinated activity of their lower extremities for mobility, an essential feature of Homo sapiens. In addition, they use vision to use this mobility to successfully navigate through their environment. During development, mobility appears to mature first, and then it is coordinated with navigation. Thus, the two, mobility and navigation are likely interdependent in function. Recent studies have indicated that compromising the integrity of the knee, a central element of the lower extremity motion segment, can lead to molecular alterations in both the cornea including the central cornea where light passes, as well as the interior of the eye (the vitreous humor). Not all insults to the knee lead to reproducible alterations in the eye, indicating some specificity in the response. In addition, it was recently reported that alterations to the cells in the vitreous humor occur following dietary induction of obesity in a rat model. As humans with obesity, as well as arthritis of the knee are at risk for ocular involvement and exhibit altered gait characteristics, the clinical and preclinical data raise the possibility of a “knee-eye-brain axis” to control or regulate mobility and navigation. Better delineation of such an axis could have implications for variations in control during maturation, and well as during aging when vision and mobility can be compromised, with increased risk for serious falls and failure to successfully navigate the environment.

A Study on Visual Search during the Trail Making Test: Analysis Using an eye Tracker

The Trail Making Test A (TMT-A) is a task related to visual search. Therefore, performance in the TMT-A has a high possibility of being influenced by visual information, such as the arrangement of numbers. The purpose of this study was to measure eye movements during the TMT-A using an eye tracker, to analyze differences in enforcement and trace execution, and to examine appropriate inspection drawings as visual search tasks. Study 1 was performed in 14 young healthy subjects and Study 2 was performed in 6 young healthy subjects. The English and Japanese versions of the TMT-A were administered as usual and the subjects performed the traces in a sitting position. The eye movements of the subjects were measured during the task. We analyzed the combined motion angles of both eyes. We compared the average values (30 Hz/s) of movement in the horizontal (X-axis) and vertical (Y-axis) directions during the normal administration of the English and Japanese version of the TMT-A. We also compared the traces performed by the subjects. There were no differences in tracing or enforcement in the English version of the TMT-A. Especially in the vertical visualization operation, it was shown that the normal enforcement was fewer than the tracing, and almost no up-to-down search was performed. In contrast, the subjects performed visual searches in all directions during the Japanese version of the TMT-A.

Purpose: To compare the clinical efficacy of four different liposomal sprays for dry eye treatment. Methods: Prospective randomized consecutive intraindividual comparison enrolling 166 patients (age, 18 - 93 years). Patients were randomly assigned to one of 4 groups, receiving one spray in their right eye and another one in their left eye: Ocuvers Hyaluron (OH) (87 eyes) and Ocuvers Lipostamin (OL) (80 eyes) (Innomedis AG), and Tears Again (TA) (80 eyes) and Tears Again Sensitive (TAS) (85 eyes) (Optima Pharmaceutical). Symptomatology was evaluated with the OSDI (Ocular Surface Disease Index) questionnaire. Subjective comfort, tear break up time (TBUT), redness, tear meniscus, application comfort and smell were evaluated during a 30-minute follow-up. Results: Smell for TA and TAS was significantly fattier compared to OH and OL (p Conclusions: The four evaluated liposome sprays may be useful for dry eye treatment, with higher subjective comfort and less dry eye signs using the Ocuvers sprays. The use of OL may be a better treatment option for severe dry eye.
