Synthesis and photoluminescent performance of novel europium(Ⅲ) carboxylates with heterocyclic ancillary ligands

Five novel europium(Ⅲ)complexes with 2-[4-(dibutylamino)-2-hydroxybenzoyl]benzoic acid(DAHB)as primary ligand and bathophenanthroline(batho),2,2’-bipyridyl(bipy),5,6-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline(dmph),1,10-phenanthroline(phen)as ancillary ligands were syn-thesized via solution precipitation method.The structural formulae of synthesized complexes were speculated to be Eu(DABH)_(3)·2H_(2)O(C1),Eu(DABH)_(3)·batho(C2),Eu(DABH)_(3)·bipy(C3),Eu(DABH)_(3)·dmph(C4)and Eu(DABH)_(3)·phen(C5)by elemental analysis,infrared spectroscopy and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spec-troscopy(^(1)H-NMR).The photoluminescent properties and thermal stability of the complexes were investigated by photoluminescent spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis(TG-DTG),respectively.The Commission Inter-nationale de I’Eclairage(CIE)color coordinates,Judd–Ofelt intensity parameter(Ω_(2)),total quantum yield,intrinsic quantum efficiency and energy transfer dynamics of com-plexes were also explored.The excitation spectra of com-plexes are extended up to visible region.These complexes exhibit characteristic photoemission of Eu^(3+)metal ion with high color purity in red region attributed to efficient energy transfer from ligand to metal ion.The replacement of water molecules from coordination sphere of europium ion by ancillary ligands results in enhancement of luminescent properties of the C2–C5 complexes,indicating that ancillary ligands act as additional light harvesting centers in sensiti-zation phenomenon.The thermal studies show that these complexes are suitable for meeting the requirement of temperature for fabrication of OLEDs devices.

The recovery of rare earth elements(REEs) is a global challenge and the mining of rare earths has serious environmental implications due to the toxic waste released post mining.Hence,the rising demand for rare earths and their far reaching electronic applications necessitates an effective strategy to recover the REEs from more viable sources.In this work,the graphene oxide-Aspergillus niger spores(GO-A.niger spores) blend was utilized for adsorptive recovery of a precious rare earth Eu(Ⅲ) and the adsorption variables like pH of the medium,adsorbent dosage,sorption kinetics,thermodynamics,and isotherm were optimized for the developed bioso rbent.The adsorption process suits the Langmuir isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 147.3 mg/g.The pseudo-second-order kinetics is a perfect fit to describe the adsorption process.The results obtained through the Van’t Hoff plot show negative free energy change(ΔG^(0)) which implies the spontaneity of the adsorption process.The negative standard enthalpy change(ΔH^(0)) values show that the nature of the adsorption process is exothermic.The analytical characterizations including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),Raman,X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET),thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA),and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDX) were employed to study the biosorbent.The features of GO-A.niger spores biosorbent were applied to recover Eu(Ⅲ) from real samples such as fluorescent lamp phosphor,red phosphor powder,and a simulated radioactive waste solution.

Shape control over microwave hydrothermally grown Y2O3:Eu by europium concentration adjustment

Two-step synthesis of Y2O3:Eu nanostructures was performed.It includes microwave driven hydrothermal and calcination stages.Performed route results in crystallization of Y4O(OH)g(NO3):Eu crystals initially,then Y2O3:Eu crystals after calcination.Arranged Eu contents in relation to overall cation quantity were set to 2 mol%,10 mol%and 20 mol%.Varying europium concentrations influence habit of obtained Y4O(OH)g(NO3):Eu crystals from needle-like to plate-like and as a result,also shapes of final Y2O3:Eu nanostructures.Additionally,certain amount of Eu2+ions was detected in as-grown material using laser spectroscopy and decay kinetics measurements.Obtained material was calcined at 1200°C in the air,which results in oxidation of Eu2+ions and crystallization of small number of cubic EU2 O3 nanocrystals.Characterization of obtained materials was performed using XRD,SEM,TEM,EDX,CL,Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy.

Na_2BaMg(PO_4 )_2:synthesis, crystal structure and europium photoluminescence properties

Na2BaMg（PO4）2 was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis （DTA）, 31p NMR spectroscopy and photoluminescence measurements. This compound crystallized in the P3 ml space group of the trigonal system with the parameters of equivalent hexagonal cell a=0.5305（1） nm and c=0.6986（3） nm. The structure showed a perfect isotipysm with the mineral glaserite KaNa（SO4）2. Thus, it exhibited a lamellar framework which could be described as the stacking along the [001] direc- tion of [MgP2O84-]∞ layers of comer sharing MgO6 polyhedra and PO4 tetrahedra. The Ba2＋ cations were located within the interlayer space, while the Na＋ ones were found in large cavities bound to the layers. The DTA analysis showed that this compound melt con- gruently at 1385 K. The 31p NMR spectrum was consistent with the presence of a single phosphorus site in the structure. Optical properties were investigated for the 5% doped Eu3＋ and Eu2＋ phases. The trivalent europium was used as a local probe, replacing bar- ium while the divalent europium was used to examine whether this material could be used as an optical applications.

Synthesis and photocatalytic performance of europium-doped graphitic carbon nitride

europium-doped graphitic carbon nitride was synthesized by an easy method and characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflection spectroscopy （UV-Vis DRS）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, photolu- minescence spectra （PL） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. The effect of dopant concentration on the rate of photocata- lytic degradation was investigated through degrading methylene blue aqueous solution. The results indicated that the europium-doped samples all possessed increased photocatalytic activity and the optimal europium content was 0.38 wt.%. Moreover, a possible photo- catalytic mechanism for the europium-doped graphitic carbon nitride was proposed.

A New Fluorimetric Reagent for Determination of Trace Amounts of europium

b Institute of Oceanography and Environment, Xiamen University, Xiamen, Fujian 361005, China In this paper, a new ligand, 2,9 bis[ N,N bis(carboxymeth yl) aminomethyl] 1,10 phenanthroline, was synthesized and used to establish a novel fluorimetric method for the determination of trace amounts of europium. The fluorescence intensity was a linear function of the concentration of europium in the range of 4.0×10 -9 -1.0×10 -6 mol/L. The detection limit was 1.0×10 -9 mol/L. The standard addition method was used to determine the europium in a synthetic rare earth sample and high purity Y 2O 3 matrix with satisfactory results.

In the present study,a plasma-electrochemical method was demonstrated for the synthesis of europium doped ceria nanoparticles.Ce(NO3)3· 6H2O and Eu(NO3)3·5H2O were used as the starting materials and being dissolved in the distilled water as the electrolyte solution.The plasma-liquid interaction process was in-situ investigated by an optical emission spectroscopy,and the obtained products were characterized by complementary analytical methods.Results showed that crystalline cubic CeO2:Eu3+ nanoparticles were successfully obtained,with a particle size in the range from 30 to 60 nm.The crystal structure didn't change during the calcination at a temperature from 400℃ to 1000℃,with the average erystallite size being estimated to be 52 nm at 1000℃.Eu3+ ions were shown to be effectively and uniformly doped into the CeO2 lattices.As a result,the obtained nanophosphors emit apparent red color under the UV irradiation,which can be easily observed by naked eye.The photoluminescence spectrum further proves the downshift behavior of the obtained products,where characteristic 5Do → 7F1,2,3 transitions of Eu3+ ions had been detected.Due to the simple,flexible and environmental friendly process,this plasma-electrochemical method should have great potential for the synthesis of a series of nanophosphors,especially for bio-application purpose.

Preparation,structure,luminescence properties of europium doped zinc spinel structure green-emitting phosphor ZnAl_2O_4:Eu^(2+)

The Zn1-xAl2 O4：xEu2＋ phosphor powders were synthesized by the solid-state reaction method.The synthesis temperature for ZnAl2 O4 was optimized,whereas the phase structure,TEM images,photoluminescence（PL） properties,the concentration quenching mechanism,the fluorescence decay curves,as well as the CIE chromaticity coordinates of the samples were investigated in details.Under the excitation at 379 nm,the phosphor exhibits an asymmetric broad-band green emission with a peak at 532 nm,which is ascribed to the 5 d-4 f transition of Eu2＋.When the doping concentration of Eu2＋ ions is 0.01,the luminescence intensity of the sample reaches the maximum value.It is further proved that the exchange interaction results in the concentration quenching of Eu2＋ in the Zn1-xAl2 O4：xEu2＋ phosphor powders.The thermal quenching property of ZnAl2 O4：Eu2＋phosphor was investigated and the quantum efficiency（QE） values of the selected Zn0.99Al2 O4：0.01 Eu2＋ phosphor was measured and determined as 54.85%.The lifetime of the optimized sample Zn0.99Al2 O4：0.01 Eu2＋ is 3.0852 μs and the CIE coordinate of the sample was calculated as（0.3323,0.5538） with high-color-purity green emission.All properties indicate that the green-emitting ZnAl2 O4：Eu2＋ phosphor powder has potential application in white LEDs.

A europium lanthanum hetero nuclear complex with new ligand N, N′ dimethyl N, N′ diphenyladipamide (MPAA) was prepared. The one dimensional chain structure of [La 0.5 Eu 0.5 (MPAA) 2(NO 3) 3] was determined crystallographicaly. The europium ion and lanthanum ion statistically lie at the position of the metal ion with M=1/2(La+Eu). Each Ln 3+ ion is nine coordinated including three bidentate nitrates, three carboxyl groups from three MPAA molecules, in which two MPAA are act as bridge ligand. The intensity of fluorescence of La 3+ Eu 3+ heteronuclear complex A was obviously higher than that of pure Eu 3+ complex B both in solution and in solid state.

Synthesis,structure and spectroscopic studies of europium complex with S(+)-mandelic acid

The Eu^3＋ complexes with S（＋）-mandelic acid were synthesized in the form of powders by mixing aqueous solutions of EuCl3, S（＋）-mandelic acid and NaOH in different molar ratios. The powders were characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray powder diffraction （XRPD.） method, Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） and Raman spectroscopy, UV-vis reflectance and luminescence spectra as well as luminescence lifetime measurements. It was found that all studied powders of Eu^3＋ complexes with S（＋）-mandelic acid were isostructural and crystalline and formed compounds with the formula Eu（Man）3（H2O）2.
